yeah it would make finical sence for you to release the beta for early buyers. a) youd start getting money in for your hard work so far and b) we could help test out some of the bugs or what and provide feedback. considering how many other software is going the “pay for beta…get full game” route…and the fact that you released the drivers to a few people already…just would be nice to have something….. “sighs”. I am not sure i like the idea of “when its done” I think its better to set a date. That way you have a goal and if you dont quite reach eveything you want at that date so what? just release it as a beta. its been nearly two months now :-(. ‘sighs”. really really frustrating for people who have been waiting and waiting and are willing to PAY YOU and you still yet have zero indication on when you may release it anytime soon…sighs. Could you at LEAST post an updated games list or something?

just hope you release it in the next few weeks. Dont understand why you dont have a beta program. Finically it would make more since for you too to open up sales now and allow people to provide feedback for the beta and just make a disclaimer that its still in beta. Only problem with having a perfectionist work on a software it can take forever before it actually comes out lol heres hoping for sometime before the end of summmer …

It would certainly be easier to leave all features intact this way. But whether it’s easier overall, well, most likely not. As you experienced yourself with the ENB wrapper, doing a wrapper that with broad compatibility isn’t as easy as it might sound. Definitely something to consider though.

    Hi Ralf,

any chance in supporting dx8 games, too?
Is it even natively possible (shaders)?
Tried some of my old favorites with the ENB dx8 to dx9 converter and vereio. Only a few are working.

Take all the time you need for finishing VorpX- as long as it does not take longer than two more weeks ;). My rift order is finally at “processing” :D

Thanks for your time and effort!
Waiting to give you my money whenever you feel ready!

Been a few days since I have seen or heard anything. I apologize for my impatience… How goes the progress Ralf? Dying to give you my money.

I’ve just seen CymaticBruce’s video featuring gameplay with VorpX. And I have to say: That looks absolutely awesome.

I’ve got my Rift for like 10 days now and I would love to buy a beta version of VorpX. Unfortunately Vireio doesn’t yet deliver quite the experience that I could see in CymaticBruce’s video with VorpX.

Ralf, release the kraken! And don’t forget that “substantial early bird discount” :P

Yeah, I originally hoped it would be possible to find a good one size fits all visible area, but obviously it’s not. Making the circles just larger, so that they are perfect for you has a negative effect for others and vice versa.

So there will be a setting to adjust the size of the visible area to everyones eyesight perfectly.

Hi Ralf. Great job so far on the driver. I was watching some of the videos posted by RoadtoVR on youtube and had a question about the size of the circles you’re using. When watching the videos on my Rift (A cups) I could easily see the whole outer circle. It was if I was looking through binoculars. This has not been an issue so far with most other games, drivers or tech demos. Will there be a way to increase the size of the Circles so I don’t get a black ring around the images? It is very detrimental to the FOV and therefore the level of immersion. I really love the DOOM 3 BFG mod that is out there but have the same issue with the image not being rendered to the sides of the screen. It feels like I’m playing with blinders on. Maybe I can see more of the screen then others but when the image being rendered is taking up a larger portion of the screen it makes a big difference. Thanks.

It depends on the support. Because with this there is a lot of variance in the quality of the support. Getting a game to run on an Oculus Rift is one thing, getting it to be playable, with readable menus, and high quality 3d stereoscopic support is another. That is something you have to do at a one-by-one game basis.

The only thing that I see differentiating your driver would be to do that work, that some might not be willing to do for free. In that case, that works. I only don’t know what a proper price should be. As a consumer I am of course biased to wanting to pay less. I kind of feel that paying the same amount as a game $40-50 is a bit steep. $25-30 makes more sense. Otherwise I would just go with the free version. But, again, that depends on what is going to differentiate your paid driver from a free driver.

Quick question – will the geometry mode render the same game frame from a different view for each eye, or will it render alternate game frames for each eye like vireo? Obviously the same frame rendered for each eye is preferable.

You said to use that within two months ago that VorpX would come out shortly after the dev kits start shipping and youd get yours. Well you have stated you have had yours since for about a month now….and other sites are getting to try out the beta and such. I really do not understand why you could not just go ahead and sell the drivers now.. and users can get the beta now and get the full version when it comes out too. First of all this would actually start getting you income from your hardwork already (so the longer you wait to release it then the longer you’ll see any money from it too) and second of all as its been posted it seems many of us would be glad to pay and have an beta version right now.

because theres really not all that many actual games that run on the Rift right now and we would really like to have more options and such. I am getting my rift in about two weeks as is a good group of people from the US. could you please, please try to release something within the next two weeks? you pretty much said a month ago that “you arnt sure when its being released” It doesnt have to be perfect. and i think thats the problem with some devs is that they think the software they have has to be “perfect” before they release it. It doesnt. looks like from the previews and all it is very nice in what it does now.

I just hope this doesnt become one of those projects that gets a lot of reports on it but keeps slipping month after month from release because its “still being worked on” you said i think before that once you get your rift it would be released shortly after that….well its been a month already.

I therefor urge you to release the drivers as it is now for the 40 bucks as i would be glad to buy it now as many others would too just state that its in beta stage thats all…..it just would be nice to have this to play around with in two weeks when i get mine.

please please dont wait another month or two to release this ok? thanks.

and i dont really understand why you havent updated your blog in a month to at least at the very least link to the roadtoVr articles ..for some of the cool infomation about VorpX …the price….the fact that world of warcraft works for it..the fact that now 80 games are supported instead of just 50. were found on 3rd party sites!

seems your doing a great job so far but….a bit more commmunication here and some promise that it will be released soon and not in another two months or so ..would be nice.

thanks……(and others who woudnt mind paying to play the beta version now should add a comment as such to this post too!)

(ok had to make new account for some reason my posts were not showing up at all..) I really dont understand why you havent released it yet. You said about 2 months ago that VorpX would come out not long after the dev kits started shipping and you got yours. however its been two months and you have had yours for what a month now? We really dont care if its not perfect we would be happy to pay for the beta and then get the final version…considering lets be honest that theirs not that much games that support the rift right now this would be a huge boost. Please dont turn into one of those perfectionists who has to feel the software has to be “perfect” before he releases it. I am sure if you sold it today people would be happy with it. Please please try to come out with it within the next two weeks. and also you really, really need to update your website if nothing else provide a link to the articles from roadtovr ….or something. :-( thanks!

    Heya ralf!

Vorpx is looking great so far!
I was wondering if vorpx will have an integrated calibration feature like tf2 has.. From what I’ve heard, that drastically improves the experience for some people.

Also will you try to support other control schemes in the future, aside from the standard rift=mouse option?
