    Hi Ralf,

looking forward to VorpX and would pre-order if I could, but I try to be patient.

I was just wondering whether the head-tracking will also include TrackIR emulation as a feature, so you could tap in into hundreds of existing games supporting it right now. Would be nice to have it all in one driver bundle and not having to resort to FaceTrackNoIR to deliver the Rift’s sensor data over to the TrackIR API.

Will you include it? Or at least consider it?

And nice short interview in C’t magazine by the way ;)

FacetrackNoIR current works for head tracking with the rift. You can play FSX right now using that plus one of the other rift drivers. Works quite well! Not perfect, but for sure will keep you busy until Vorpx, which will be any day now, right? :)

Mine arrived last Monday. The basic adjustments in vorpX are done, only a few secondary features aren’t fully implemented. The driver is currently in beta testing to make sure that everything works as smooth as possible for the first public release. Still no fixed release date has been set though.

Great news. Take your time, just try and keep us posted on your milestones and breakthroughs. I have at least 7 games from your list of supported games, I just hope Formula 1 2012 gets support sooner than later.

It feels like I’ve been waiting for years now for my Rift. Ralf, on the other hand has been waiting for a year. Any word on when you’re getting yours?

This would be amazing. I often play this game on my 3d projector it has an amazing feeling of speed and control that I’ve not felt in other racing games. I’d pay an extra $100 for support of this game. It’s so fun to drive around, sometimes I don’t even play the game I just go for joy rides.

Are you at the point where users can purchase even though you aren’t done yet?  I’ll gladly pay full price to get in on a beta set of the driver.  I have several games I’m very interested to stick my head into, and would gladly provide feedback / testing too.  I can think of a few others that would do the same.

vorpX will support games such as Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, STALKER and System Shock 2. Those games usually can have lots of mods to enhance the experience, add content or fix bugs. Does those affect the driver in any way?

That’s one of the reasons (but not the only one) why vorpX has two differnt modes to create the 3d effect. See the latest blog post for details: http://www.vorpx.com/more-headtracking-z-buffer-vs-geometry-3d

The Vireio Driver suffers from this annoying problem, shadows and/or reflections are screwed up when rolling the head in most games, and you have to disable them or disable rolling to have a good experience.

Does your driver suffers from the same problem?

    To quote the FAQ: :)

“Additionally to ‘making games 3d’ vorpX offers various features to tackle many of the issues that arise when playing games on the Rift that are not designed for it.”

    All,

One concern I have with this software is the Steam VAC and Punkbuster protection mechanisms built into online games.  With using this driver are we confined to local, single player games (oh I sure hope to god not)?  Has this been tested in multiplayer games?  Are the anti-cheat systems aware of VorpX and have the details been worked out so that players are not blacklisted for using this driver online?

If this driver will work online without the worry of blacklist detection then we are good to go, but I would really stress that the VAC and Punkbuster systems need to know about this prior to going live with it.

Major buzzkill to get this driver only to find out your account has been blacklisted due to the driver being used online.

Anyone have thoughts on this or feedback?

The basic principle is the same in vorpX. The shader vorpX uses is more complex though and also has at least one extra feature that enhances image quality. It’s also possible (and recommended) to use slightly higher resolutions in conjunction with GPU-downsampling. That helps a LOT image quality wise.

Hey, great job on doing this VorpX, I don’t want you to think that I am ungrateful, but please, the shipping has started, people started getting their headsets. The hype is up.

Now can’t you release a demo of your driver so we know that it is the real thing? One game wouldn’t hurt!

Something like Portal! (Why you should take Portal is because Valve will eventually make support for all their Source engine games) Anyhow, imagine showing your friends the Oculus and Portal for the first time. They would totally freak out!

And it’s fine if you don’t release something, but I think showing people that your driver indeed works will probably give you a few more donations and costumers later on.

    Keep up the good work!
