In reply to: Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC in November!!
jjenssonParticipantCounting the days for it myself. Apart from perhaps the new Jedi game, this is the only game I’m looking forward to anymore this holiday. Almost as excited as I was for Witcher 3.
Haha, we seem to have the same taste in games. I can’t wait to play Jedi: Fallen Order, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is also on my list of the best games of 2019.
It would be a tragedy if those two games don’t work in VorpX, because there is almost nothing new worthwhile to play these days.
That said, there is guy (i think his name is Luke Ross) on Reddit who just published a VR mod for GTA5 that works without VorpX. He also said that it should be theoretically possible to do the same thing for RDR2. Don’t nail me on the details, but those infos are quite fresh and can be found on the Oculus and VirtualReality reddits.

I just took a look at that facebook group you linked. What’s said there is flatout untrue. vorpX offers multiple ways to deal with FOV.
Not all are perfect, but you can always deal with the issue one way or the other. There is a whole help section (“Essential Hints Guide”) that explains the various options you have in that regard. You can also find that here: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-vorpx/
In short:
– For more than 150 games vorpX can adjust the FOV automatically to your headset, either by auto editing ini files or by directly manipulating the game memory. In other words: whenever possible vorpX handles the matter in a perfect manner.
– If that is not possible or a game is unsupported and there is no way to adjust its FOV manually, a workaround is available with vorpX’s image zoom option at the expense of black top/bottom bars.
You can find more detailed information regarding the matter in the aforementioned guide in the help.
If you have any further questions regarding the matter, let me know.
@ blueshark:
I’m obviously biased, but vorpX used together with this GTA mod is still the better way to play GTA V. The standalone mod has no controller support and uses alternate eye rendering for creating 3D, i.e. only one eye gets rendered each frame. vorpX used to do that in its (very) early stages because it’s relatively simple, but compared to a more advanced G3D implementation the method has severe drawbacks since each eye is rendered at a different time, causing odd, potentially dizzying, artifacts with anything that doesn’t stand still.
I was more interested in how the in car scale compared to VorpX.
The thing I dislike about your GTAV profile is sitting in vehicles doesnt feel immersive like they do in Assetto Corsa or PCARS2 in VR. Its hard to explain something is just off scale and feel wise when driving cars in first person.Oct 21, 2019 at 5:30pm #188622In reply to: GTA V – Official Recommendation

dellrifter22ParticipantI had a 20 min break to test Breakpoint. Looks like G3D needs fixing, but the Z3D profile works fine.
I’ll have a G3D option available for tomorrow (probably be quite performance heavy), but for now you can use the Wildlands(Rift) Z3D profile. Don’t use the old gta5 based one.
The uplay launch argument was useful, thank you.

FuseParticipantHello, I’m a new user here. No real reason for this post except to say that after many hours I finally have GTA V working well with VorpX, VR Mod and Transmission mod for my steering wheel. My goal was to drive around the map in Full VR and although it looks (graphically) pretty rough, all the FoV, head tracking and scale of the vehicle looks great :)
I am now going to experiment with some texture compression mods (if the 9Gb download ever finishes from Mega) to see if I can make it looks better.
My PC is not a beast, the CPU is and i5-4670K, 16Gb of DDR3-1600 and my GFX card is a Nvidia GTX 1070 4Gb. So could be alot better. I was getting around 35 game fps which I am going to try and improve upon.
There really is nothing like driving around in GTA V in VR with a wheel and I thank you Ralf for the ability to do this. I really hope Rockstar consider VR in the next game of the series. I wonder if they have even experimented with GTA 5.
Edit: typos

v2VrParticipantdeathorb i welcome you and agree with your points number 1,2,3.
i currently am playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, GTA San Andreas, and most recently GTAIV all with the most awesome G3D and first person mod among others.
I haven’t yet experienced Enderal for Skyrim using vorpX i should however but played SkyrimVR with nearly 300 mods at one point and it was incredible.
I love first person in VR looking around closely at things without a body in the way, i really don’t see how game designers don’t get it? really who wants to be a monkey on a some characters back forced to endure a painfull piggy back ride. I want to take on the player, I want to be the player I want to become the player game designers what are you thinking?Aug 8, 2019 at 8:30pm #186570
v2VrParticipantThis message is for Ralf and dellrifter22 or whoever it may concern about running GTAIV using Vorpx with mods.
Thanks to your work on the new profile. I found the cause of the missing text issue. At least as far as Vorpx settings are concerned.
This is what I discovered.
After applying the new GTAIV profile Ralf provided and entering the game I was immediately relieved to find the phone text was working now and on further inspection I found the menu’s were now working as well.
However the format in G3D mode was off for my setup so I began to make the normal changes I always do with any game to make it fit nicely in my Pimax8K hmd. After doing so and was again happy I left the apartment in game and tried to pause the game to look at the menu to my horror the text went missing again.
So I went and looked at each individual setting and found
the VorpX setting “FOV enhancement” is the cause of missing text. I usually max this setting out in the Pimax. So I incrementally decreased the setting from like 145 something and found the text doesn’t reappear until this settings is set all the way to 0.I just repeat the FOV enhancement must be set to 0 in my case.
So I’m relieved that I can now save the game look at phone and computer in game and hopefully complete all story missions in VR using Vorpx.
On a side note Ralf I also found that moving the game from my HD drive to an SD drive fixed a problem I was having on start up of the game.
Now back to the game

v2VrParticipantYou should be fine pintman getting this game to run in VR with your 1080. With the broken text I have been playing the mission also on my 4k tv. Bouncing back in forth trying to experience the story through the missions and great cutscenes and freeroaming in VR. I never new just how good this game looks not having as nice a GPU when I last played. Never got into modding GTA before its not that difficult really one you aquire the basic tools. Was not bad at modding SkyrimVR with at one point nearly 300 selected mods. Very different modding that game compared to GTA.
I will try to look at what earlier essential vids I checked out and important bits. Possibly provide some tips later to help get you started. Yeah with the Oculus Rift and the 1080 you should have no problem, I’m trying to drive a Pimax8K with higher resolutions.Aug 7, 2019 at 12:02am #186503
dellrifter22ParticipantI used the first person mod years ago before vr, but am having trouble getting it to work again on this newer machine. Would need more time and direction to get it setup.
I managed to boot GTA4 vanilla though, and G3D and text seem to work fine. I wonder if your mods break the phone somehow, or the way fov is handled. You’re using the keyboard up arrow to bring up the corner phone correct? I can’t remember if the first person mod puts a phone in your hands.
The Z3D key would have revealed any hidden shaders in case there were any. Maybe make sure all HUD settings are set to full 1.00 in vorpX menu. Or try changing to a more standard resolution, in case you are using something custom. Sorry I can’t be of more help atm.
If you want to keep trouble shooting, try uninstalling a mod at a time to see if the phone gets fixed.

v2VrParticipantHello pintman,
I have so much nostalgia for this game having played it on the xbox 360 back in the day.
Let me know if you end up getting a VR headset like the rift and are able to play it in VR it is definitely some next level stuff. I would recommend having a very good GPU if you want it to run acceptable. I use a GTX 1080ti and it is just barely acceptable fps wise the way I like to play graphics fairly sharp.I have an iron stomach when it comes to this sort of thing and do not suffer from motion or vr sickness.
I like how you described it as the GTA worldscape R* has created.I’m trying to remember the necessary steps I took to get the thing to work in VR and modded. I’ll try to provide that here later.
In the mean time their are some youtube video’s on the subject that I used.
Unfortunately I’m having difficulty in completing some missions in VR do to the missing text issue but for free roaming and the now and then mission completion its amaze balls just even walking around in first person taking on the body of Niko Belic.Aug 6, 2019 at 4:35pm #186496
v2VrParticipantHi Ralf, Probably not many will jump through the hoops of getting GTA IV working in first person mode buy I will say it is amazing the stereoscopic 3d pops as good as any VR experience when settings are dialed in properly. I have tried yesterday dellrifter22’s suggestion unfortunately the texts on phone and in the menu’s do not show up using whatever vorpx mode immersive screen, z adaptive still no go.
Having played through all of Resident Evil 7 i’m very good at using edge peek being essential in that game at least when i last played it.
If you have the time to look into this it would be great. Besides SkyrimVR and Fallout 4VR and probably more than those I found playing GTAIV using Vorpx with first person mod, at times more realistic and immersive that those two made into VR games. It was the closest thing I have honestly experienced to entering a living breathing lifelike Virtual World. I may try GTAV again but last time i couldn’t get it to work as well.
There is something about the open world design of these gta games having such attention to detail the sounds effects everything works so well in VR for what VR can be using Vorpx.Jul 18, 2019 at 9:08pm #185920In reply to: What game are you currently playing right now?
apollon01ParticipantNice post :-) I got few titles lined up:
– Skyrim SE
– Morrowind (pity it does not work with distant lands)
– GTA V
– Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
– Mafia
– Mafia II
– A Story About My Uncle (is surprisingly nice in vorpX)
– Giants: Citizen Kabuto (idem; this is a fantastic retro)and I hoped also for some of my sims: Flight Sim World, Il-2 1946, Il-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz and Rise of Flight… however unfortunately these do not work in 3D (but are fun also in 2D).
The question is – when will I get the time to give all these a shot? :-)

benzoylperoxideParticipantI play Farm Sim a few hours a day
Rfactor is another daily driver. Cars in that game are such a rush.
3rd would be Last Remnant.
How well does GTA5 work?
