Hello everyone,
I’ve done my share of googling and research about vorpx settings, but I haven’t had much luck with my particular problem so I’m making a thread on it. Essentially, my gpu load is around 35% and my cpu under half load with a framerate hovering around or above 80fps a little bit on my rift. I have a framerate counter displayed on my monitor along with gpu and cpu loads all from afterburner. This is pretty annoying, but better than the 45 fps with the vorpx fluid setting (I disabled that). It also has the occasional hiccup while running lightly like this so far as well with some noticeable stutter. I can see the stuttering from the 80 fps and really feel it when moving around. My rig:
Gtx 1080 TI with a small overclock
I5 4690k overclocked to 4.5ghz
16gb ddr3 ram
Oculus rift cv1I’m just trying to figure out what settings to look at to increase the load on my rig because I’m still in the vault with this framerate.
My settings: (not at my gaming rig atm, but I’ll update when I am)
Resolution – set to what vorpx suggested (1280×1024 IIRC)
Geometry 3D mode because the others flickered or caused other graphical glitches.
In-game graphics are set the highest because of how old this game is asides from anti-aliasing.
The only settings I played with were the 3D effect and camera things, so I don’t think that would affect the fps at all really. If there are some other settings needed for a full diagnosis then just ask for them. Everything else I reset to default for the most part anyway.
Some other issues I’ve been struggling to solve:
FOV – I tried the suggested 110 FOV in the console in-game, but that didn’t seem to do much. Should I be looking at resolution or field of view changes in the game to adjust this best? I was playing with the settings a lot to tweak this. I’m seeing from my googling that I should use edge peak to use my pipboy. Should this also be applying to conversations? Because I am way in their personal space haha.
I’m assuming my 5:4 aspect ratio isn’t helping and creating a proper 8:9 ratio will reduce the zooming I see? I see a noticeable amount on the side in wrap mode that I normally don’t see.Aiming – What’s the best way to get the shooting to line up with the cursor? I’m hoping that when I was playing with settings I just broke this and it’s an easy fix. Shooting the bb gun at the start was insanely hard and I had to get quite close and aim up to the left to make the hits I needed to progress.
After I have dealt with this framerate issue, what should I look at for the best leap in in-game graphics? Should I be increasing the resolution past the oculus rift’s resolution or look at supersampling? (not sure which is optimal for overall graphical improvement). Should I figure out how to create an 8:9 resolution and just increase the resolution to be a multiple of that to the point my graphics card is close to max utilization? I don’t see nvidia control panel anymore, so either I find a version of it or maybe the new GeForce experience allows for doing that. I’ll have to do research on this.
My game is still vanilla with no mods until I sort out these issues. I’m hoping a nice texture pack will help pretty the game up a bit, but the game look quite beautiful already considering its age.
The 3D effect works great in the game (except talking to people heheh) and this is going to be a blast once I figure out how to tweak the game.
Thank you to all kind souls willing to lend me a hand. I just got vorpx and this is my first game, so I’m a scrub at it haha. I’ll apply what I learn here to other games in the future.
Topic: please forgive me!
I am so sorry I said bad things.. I totally retract them all!
I don’t know what I was expecting but fully native VR wasn’t what I got, it was passable but, the desktop cinema? OMG that is amazing.
to see a game in 3D like that blew me away. Playing rocket league was simply amazing. So much cool.
I tried so many games to see if they work in that mode and I love that I don’t have to sacrifice resolution to get the 3d on desktop cinema. It’s like a really well done 3D movie (which I control)
I ended up playing Enslaved for 8 stages , you know, just testing. It wasn’t as 3D as rocket league but it was such a good ride
Ryse was another good game to play like that.
and seeing how high a mountain is in Skyrim was jaw dropping.
a big thanks to you developer for providing this software, I am only sorry that I didn’t discover all the options before I commented on my purchase.
I would like to propose the game (elders scrolls online) as candidate for work dx11 with vorpx, get g3d in this title would complete the support for Bethesda titles of maximum interest with VR.
In addition, there is an announcement for the launch of Morrowind expansion for 6 June 2017, and personally I really want to have this support in Vorpx even now.G3D, we would return some advantages in this title, for players who have powerful equipment,in addition to better 3d.
For example, possibility to add a bit of extra FOV from the Vorpx menu,to extend a little distance between the camera and arms, also the HUD/GUI rescaling, and probably the function to activate or not positional tracking.Personally,I would not mind if it is necessary to disable or exclude any possible graphic effect incompatible with g3d,I think it could deserve the effort equally.
I will include this request also in the Games Wish List,to formalize it in the corresponding section.-I have noticed that the game itself allows several important options, such as the following:
Positive Data:
-Possibility increase of (FOV) ingame.
-Possibility of deactivation headbob in first person camera.
-Possibility of hiding HUD and bar skills out of combat and more options.
-Possibility to use gamepad including use of skills optionally.
-“Possibility to support window mode, borderless”, and full screen.
-All available ingame and also from game files.Negative Data:
-Changing resolutions to get closer aspect ratios like 4:3 or 5:4 or 16:10 does not seem to have any effect on the narrowing size change…or I’m just going through some detail with this particular game.
I have tried switching to borderless mode and full screen while changing different resolutions.Any ideas here?-It occurred to me to perform a test using the (strech mode) available in the vorpx internal menu,as a last option, but this is too narrow.
It is probably a good idea to improve this mode,to make it a bit wider,
And thus have a secondary option for some games or cases like this.
I have always thought that having this option available together with letterbox modes 1 and 2 is a wise mode, but it is too narrow to take advantage of using it.Conclusions:
-A retouch for this mode(in general),and the inclusion of a G3D profile for Elder Online scrolls, would simply be a brutal added improvement.——————————————————————————–
PD:Before I say goodbye, I would like to take advantage of this thread,
to dedicate 2 minutes to congratulate the great work done with the version Vorpx 17.2.0 and to thank the simple fact of being able to play some of my favorite games in vr.
I am really enjoying a lot of changes in the last two versions, and the DirectVR functionality seems like a great success,a function with many possibilities and the right way to go now and in the future with new improvements.
I also thank some of added profiles.
regards.I know a mod that helps:
Lower 1st Person Weapons
This mod lowers the weapons out of the way (more natural down by your side instead of up in your face)
This does not fix the size, but helps reduce the amount they block your view.
Topic: geometry 3d CPU impact
I guess geometry 3d makes the GPU work twice as hard, but what is the effect on CPU usage?
This information may help me in trying to figure out if it’ll be worth it to upgrade my CPU from an i5-2310. Unfortunately none of the new Ryzens even match old Intel CPU’s single thread performance which I think is what I need to look for. :/
Topic: Z buffer question
I have been playing around with the different 3D settings that VorpX has to offer. I noticed in New Vegas with Z buffer modes such as Z buffer Adaptive and Z buffer Normal, the image “shakes” or stutters every few seconds. Is this a New Vegas specific issue? I personally prefer using Geometric reconstruction since it offers the best 3D effect and it doesn’t have that “shaking” stutter, but I know some games only work with Z buffer mode and I am wondering will I have this stutter in these games? I hope it is just a NV specific issue since I wouldn’t be using Z buffer in NV.
Thanks again for this amazing 3D injector Ralf. It seriously rocks.
Hey everyone,
I’m running HTC Vive on an older laptop (i7-4700 and a GTX 770m), and originally planned to make an extended step-by-step guide on running Morrowind with modern mods through Vorpx.. citing my “low-spec” build and how it runs, versus my future high-spec build so others could have ease of access to run a modern rendition of many people’s favourite RPG, but I have encountered a big problem that has gotten in the way of such a thing:Due to the fact that I have an older laptop(I’m assuming), running SteamVR with Direct Mode on will not work(and oh god have I tried), which in turn, unfortunately, neuters the functionality of Vorpx.
On the plus side, I’ve managed to circumvent this issue through using the following steps:
1.Turning off SteamVR
2. Choosing “Generic VR headset (extended mode)” option under the Device Selection drop-down in general options
3. Choosing the “Show on all monitors(clone)” selection.
4. Run the game.
5. (Optional) While running the game, re-enabling SteamVR,going into SteamVR settings, and enabling the vive headphone functionality in the Audio Settings tab. This works fine and dandy with geometry-3d (and its gorgeous by the way!) and DirectVR setting seems to inject fine as well. Minus one critical feature: Head-tracking. Head-tracking is turned off by default, and is the only thing missing to an otherwise totally functional experience for people in my situation.
Ralf has made it clear in previous posts that Direct Mode is what Vorpx is programmed for, but considering its current near-perfect functionality in extended mode (Testing on Fallout: New Vegas), what i’m wondering is if there is any way I could fiddle with the settings to enable head-tracking? Maybe using a previous version would help out as well? Any advice on the situation is much appreciated, I can get by for these few months without head-tracking but if there was another way to go about this I’d love to give it a whirl. Thanks for reading, I hope this issue can be resolved so others with sub-par gaming rigs can jump in on the VR experience before building their super rigs as I have :)
Hi guys,
I recently bought the oculus rift and vorpX, that I am trying on Skyrim SE. first, I’d like congratulate vorpX for the work because my first experience went pretty smoothly. The game is already beautiful, but I however require some assistance to make it even better regarding the 3D. Here is my configuration (i can add more info if needed, or https://www.steg-electronics.ch/fr/article/Exzellenz-20-20192452.aspx, in french):
– i7 6700K
-16Go Ram
– GTX 1060-First, the resolution, I tried many things, I read on this forum that best possible resolution for the oculus was: 1920×1440, is it still the case? Does that mean that above that it will not change anything about the display in the headset?
-second, the 3D: without headset/oculus/voprX, I have no problem to run the game with several texture mods/ultra graphics, etc. I am caped at the maximum 60fps.
With headset/oculus/voprX, with no 3D or the reconstruction (not geometry mode) at resolution 1920×1440, i am always at 45 fps (which seems to be a cap as well).
However with the reconstruction setting Z normal and Z adaptative, any close in object/NPC have their edges tripled/doubled, with white pixels blinking at the edges. Especially the hair of NPC are a mess. I could solve that by setting 3D strength to 0 (not very useful), or by setting the sharped amount to 0, but if I do so, faraway structures look blurry. Any advice?
Finally, geometry mode works very great with the recommended resolution 1280*1024 (45fps), but drops at 20-30 fps at 1920×1440, I would prefer to use the latter, otherwise the face of the npc are blurry if they are standing more than 1 meter from me. What is limiting my fps with the 1920×1440 resolution? My ram? graphic card? I tried monitoring the memory usage during the display, but it never go higher than 50%, so I don’t know where the limitation comes from. I would also mention that, beside resolution, other paramters doesnt seems to impact much my fps
cheers

) it should start the SteamVR monitor and you should be able to see the “grid room” in your FOVE HMD (+ your infrared camera should power on with a green led shown).
