OK, figured it now – it runs in 3D on FSO 3.6.12. Here is how to make it work (well at least on my setup :-)) in case someone else will want to give it a try:

    – get Freespace 2 (mine comes from GoG)
    – get wxLauncher for the SCO
    – get FSO 3.6.12 INF SSE2
    – get MediaVPs 3.6.12
    – use Quake III: Arena profile as suggested by Zarkov
    – vorpX needs to hook on fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe

Install via wxLauncher and you are ready to go!

The FSO 3.7.4 hooks but does not give a 3D effect (at least not for me). The FSO 3.6.12 works fine.

Sorry to grab that old thread out but the files for 3.6.12 aren´t all online anymore…
Someone have this still on their disk?

    1. Resident Evil 2 Remake (immersive mode)
    2. Resident Evil 7 (vr mode)
    3. Resident Evil Revelations (immersive mode)
    4. Resident Evil 5 (immersive mode)
    5. Resident Evil 6 (immersive mode)
    6. Batman Arkham Asylum (immersive mode)
    7. Dead Island Definitive Edition (vr mode)
    8. Sonic All Star Racing Transformed (Theatre Mode)
    9. Quake Champions (Theatre mode)
    10. Tekken 7 (Theatre mode)

BONUS: GZDOOM VR MOD, not VorpX, but it’s probably my favorite VR game period. Everyone should try this, works with Doom, Doom2, Final Doom, Heretic, Hexen, and more.. near perfect experience.

I don’t have any experience with the application, sorrry. Judging from a brief look at their website I’d suspect it might be an OpenGL application. A bit older, available on both Mac and PC, makes OpenGL a reasonable assumption.

Try to make a copy of an OpenGL profile in the vorpX config and then assign the application’s .exe to that copy. No guarantee that will do anything, but worth a shot. Good candidates to try are the Quake/Quake II/Quake III/Quake IV profiles.

If you can’t make it work, you can use the vorpX desktop viewer as fallback option. 2D only, but that way you can display the app in the headset without vorpX hooking into it.

    vorpX 21.3.1 has been released

Every now and then it’s time for a bit of spring cleaning, occasionally even in late October. ;) That’s what this maintenance release is about: lots of annoyances and uncritical bugs fixed, also some minor improvements. Some things you may have noticed, others you probably haven’t. Reasonably complete changelog below:

    Improved/Fixed

    • Improved: Smarter profile merging during database updates.
    • Improved: Minor config app layout modernization.
    • Improved: Hooking conflict warning shown as overlay if hooking isn’t prevented.
    • Improved: Revised DXGI hooking.
    • Fixed: DirectVR scanner start via keyboard shortcut could fail (e.g. Borderlands 3).
    • Fixed: Some settings in the vorpX menu didn’t update properly occasionally.
    • Fixed: Resident Evil 2 FOV mod UI (and probably other mod UIs) weren’t visible.
    • Fixed: User shader definitions for official profiles were removed during update.
    • Fixed: Pixelated cinema/immersive screen with ‘Generic VR Headset’ device.
    • Fixed: Installing hook helpers could fail occasionally if requiring admin rights.
    • Fixed: DX12 settings weren’t handled correctly during database updates.
    • Fixed: DX11: switching to/from highest Clarity could occasionally crash some games.
    • Fixed: DX9: some vorpX UI elements drawn out of place under some circumstances.
    • Fixed: vorpControl didn’t exit cleanly when switching from admin to non-admin.
    • Fixed: Waiting for dialog confirmations wasn’t reliable under some circumstances.
    • Various other small fixes/improvements and some internal refactoring.

    Profile Changes/Fixes

    • Quake 4: fix for blurry textures on modern GPUs added to DirectVR auto settings.
    • Metro Exodus: a bunch of additional shadow shaders defined.
    • Borderlands 3: More reliable hooking, DirectVR tracking added, defaults fixed.
    • Fallout 4: hang on launch when run fullscreen in Generic 3D/headset mode.
    • Elder Scrolls Online: HUD shader definition fixed for latest game version.
    • Halo MCC: CE: DirectVR Weapon Hide added, G3D fixed for latest game version.
    • Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon: DX11 .exe detection fixed for latest game version.

I’m struggling to get VorpX to work on some old games in OpenGL mode. The games are Need for Speed 2 and Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed. These games are so old they can’t be run on modern systems without special patches, and it happens that an OpenGL 1.1 wrapper has been made for both of them:

    https://verokster.blogspot.com/2019/11/need-for-speed-ii-second-edition-patch.html
    https://verokster.blogspot.com/2019/11/need-for-speed-porsche-unleashed-patch.html

    OpenGL

The problem is, I can’t get VorpX to work on them based on any profile. Profiles I’ve tried:

    Quake
    Quake 2
    Quake 3
    Half-Life
    Hexen II
    Doom 3

They’ve usually hooked, but there’s no 3D depth whatsoever in them. Does anyone have advice on what I can try? I’ve read how VorpX has great older OpenGL support, but it seems like nothing can hook.

Hey guys! Lately there’s been a wave of retro shooters, some good, some not so good, and i would like to know what titles work with VorpX.

I’m thinking the likes of Amid Evil, Dusk, Ion Fury etc. Best case – we use this thread for making a list of retro shooters that are tested and working with VorpX. I’m consciously excluding older titles like Quake or Return To Castle Wolfenstein, because there are Quest ports for those.

    Any thoughts?

Works with Quake Champions, so i don’t see why DBD would be so different

Thanks for the reply. I’m not actually using WMR OpenXR developer tools, but maybe I should check that out as I’m guessing it’s similar to Oculus Tray Tool where you can tweak a bunch of internal and rendering settings to play around with. I did actually just run through the WMR setup again from scratch, but no change unfortunately. It’s just really weird that it only affects those games, I too figured if it was a tracking or calibration issue that it’d be affecting all games. I may try messing around with it again, perhaps a reinstall or reset to default ini settings in the games may help out.

In the meantime I’ve been playing Quake VR which is a blast, I highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it out as it actually has full motion controller support now and even allows picking up and throwing weapons kinda like a lite version of Robo Recall or Superhot…not bad for a free mod!

Quake 4 used to track OK. Now the weapon keeps shifting all over the place, and I have to re-center all the time.

Also, after opening the vorpX settings with DEL and closing them, head tracking switches off completely, i.e. I can’t turn my head at all. The only solution is to reset the game profile.

I didn’t check the game, but it was my understanding that the profile is based on the Quake II profile and had the same issue (crash on start). The Quake II start crash has been fixed in the last update.

So myself, dimensionaldu, Anatolij, turktim7 and matteo39 all asked for help in a thread about the game “Kingpin.” This is an older game, and if it just didn’t work on vorpx, I could understand letting our pleas go unanswered, since Ralf obviously has his hands full just trying to help with games that do work.

But the thing is–Kingpin DID work with vorpx. It worked perfectly fine until a vorpx update stopped it from working. So we know it CAN work. Which is why the five of us were all requesting Ralf’s help to get it working again. Now, if we got a response that said something like: “Sorry guys, I can’t get that game working now because of X,” that would be something we could understand. We’d be disappointed, but we could understand.

But we haven’t gotten any response at all. If I were less of an optimist, I might think that our requests have just been ignored.

But again I know there are a lot of requests for Ralf to respond to, so it’s perfectly possible that he just didn’t see our original one. It is with the hope that this is in fact what happened, that I have created this new thread to draw attention to the issue.

For those of you who have never played Kingpin, IMO it is one of the best FPS to use the Quake II engine and in many ways remains unrivaled after all these years. It has some of the most visceral melee combat I’ve ever experienced in a game, and the shootouts are equally enthralling and quite gory. It actually has an entire online community still dedicated to playing it, and there’s a good reason for that. It’s just fun.

So Ralf, if you read this, I’m sorry to bother you again, but I really hope you can find the time to respond and let us know if there is any chance we’ll be able to play this great game using vorpx again.
