//Quake II (probably some other OpenGL games too) crashed on start.//
Will this fix cover the OpenGl Left/right black screen error that many OpenGL games based on the Quake Engines show currently ?
Hi, I’ve been trying to make Q2 work with vorpX using Oculus Rift S, but it eventually crashes with “GLimp_EndFrame () – SwapBuffers Failed!” error dialog and quits to desktop.
Here: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/kingpin-life-of-crime/ another user claims to have the same problem with Kingpin, and that the earlier vorpX version helped. I’m a newly joined user, so I don’t have access to the earlier versions. Please advice what I should do. Ready to troubleshoot with an earlier version if you provide it to me.
I guess i wont be any further help. These profiles are stone old, besides i was using the retail version of the game. Any other version , steam etc. may not work with my profiles at all. VorpX has changed a lot since then and like said vorpX has currently problems with openGl. You may try one of the VorpX Quake profiles or the D2XXl (Descent 2) profile to see if you can get any 3D.
There are two versions of Quake 3, not counting the gazillion modified versions out there. One uses opengl and the other, I believe, is IdTech3. I think the profile is for the opengl version but I could be wrong, hence my question.
Anyway, glad you got it working.
@ ogrescar, I think it was from a forum post from the game itself that said that was the one they had used. I also thought quake 3 used CryEngine for some reason. I am not very good with profiles hence asking for help lol. I have since fixed it using the state of decay profile. Whether that’s correct or best I do not know, but it works.
What led you to believe that the quake 3 profile would work? I’m pretty sure that’s an opengl profile, but the game’s website says it uses dx11.
Hello,
I have recently started using Vorpx again and have been trying out some older games with it.
Entropia Universe does not seem to want to work at all no matter what i try, i am currently using a version of quake 3 profile. For some reson even though it is not in the profile exe list it keeps trying to load the clientloader.exe not the game exe itself. If i start vorpx after having loaded the launcher it then tries to hook into the correct entropia.exe selected in the profile (i have checked there are no duplicate profiles). But it just does nothing…Vr headset has a box with entropia icon saying loading but it never does anything. I have seen around a few forums ppl getting this to work but they never list the options and or profile for me to use. Any help on this would be appreciated, even a “definately doesnt work” lol. Currently using Rift S.
EU is a very esoteric game and due to real cash econ may have something similar to anti cheat/hack stopping it maybe.
Im sorry i didnt find anything regarding this. Ive been trying get the Hellblade profile hooking with Amid Evil since both are Unreal Engine 4.
What steps are necessary here?
Id love to play Amid Evil in VR so much!
Also theres a darkplaces (Quake 1) profile that hooks but leaves my headset black. Id also really would like to play my heavily modded Quake and Quake 1.5 in Vorpx. Quake is my absolute favorite and Quakespasm VR isnt as atmospheric as Darkplaces. Would also prefer to use mouse and keyboard to stay fast.
Hope anyone might know something regarding this also.
It may work with vorpx but I seriously doubt it – anything that messes with headset synchronization is probably going to make vorpx nauseous. Also doesn’t work with Rift or WMR headsets so probably isn’t worth the effort to make it compatible.
Quake 2 RTX uses the vulkan api, which vorpx doesn’t currently support. As far as ray tracing in general, I don’t think there’s a GPU in existence that can do G3D and RTX at the same time at a reasonable frame rate and resolution.
SteamVR got an update that lets you not just motion smooth with 1/2 the frames interpolated, but up to 5/6 frames, It actually is quite playable on an index running at 144hz, so you just need to generate 24 frames and a little overhead. Does this work with VorpX, it runs in the steamVR compositor so I would expect it to but there could be little issues.
Also really interesting is what kinds of opportunities this creates. Are there games that work in vorpx but only at very low framerates? Do any RTX games work in VorpX as G3D, especially like Quake 2 RTX? It would be amazing as a demonstration.
Here are some more bugs (or are some of them features?):
1. Regardless of which anti-aliasing mode you choose, Vorpx rewrites the config to set it to “2.” The only way out here is to run the game without Vorpx, do the setup, run the game with Vorpx, disable rewriting the config, then change the anti-aliasing mode in the text editor (because if you do it in-game, FC4 will set the refresh rate to 60 and Vorpx will black-screen).
2. With G3D, the bloom layer has an incorrect depth, and the picture is literally falling apart. I’ve got the same problem in Need For Speed, but obviously not in Quake4 and other older games which don’t make use of post-processing.
3. G3D FPS is horrendous. I get 120 FPS on ultra-high without Vorpx; 28 FPS with Vorpx (identical config). I can understand Vorpx halving the FPS, I can understand a small injection penalty (let’s say -10 FPS?), which would bring me down to 50. But 28? It’s literally unplayable on my rig.
Thank You! I got Quake IV running using the admin. Should I do 16:9 or 4:3? I tried helper for Titanfall 2 with the helper and did not work. Going to try on ShadowPC and see if maybe there is something on my computer causing issues.
try the ‘Install hook helper’ button instead of ‘Do nothing’. It will install a file to the game folder that can help with hooking conflicts. No magic bullet, but worth a shot.
Quake IV does indeed require to run vorpX as admin like the message suggests. Since the game requires admin rights to run, vorpX also requires admin rights to hook into it.
Been playing a lot of games using Vorpx. These are the two that are giving me issues. I have almost nothing running and Titanfall, Origin game, gives me the message about taking a long time to hook up and if want to use hook helper. Once I say do nothing and the message goes away, after a bit I can hear the music but the video or VR does not come up. Even the desktop has a black or white screen.
Quake IV just does not hook up with VorpX. Read something about using admin but have not tried it yet.
The game is not officially supported. If you want to create a user profile for it and are certain it’s an OpenGL program try to take some other OpenGL profile as a base for a new one (e.g. Quake 1-4, Amnesia, Jedi Knight II). Try more than one if the first one doesn’t do the trick right away. Be aware though that OpenGL G3D support in vorpX is limited to fairly old (fixed function) OpenGL versions.
A much better way to experience (a re-imagined) Half-Life 1 is Black Mesa: Source though, which you can purchase on Steam. Basically Half-Life with way better graphics. For the Steam version of Black Mesa: Source a fully featured DirectVR profile exists.
