Feature wise the Fallout 4 G3D profile is on par with Skyrim, that much I can say. So you can indeed look forward to it (provided you have a GTX 980Ti or Titan GPU).

Regarding the next version there is nothing else to share currently than what was said above though, sorry: there *might* be another update before the CV1 is released, but that hasn’t been decided yet.

I hear you, I bet its a major performance hit. I’m not expecting performance but at least a G3d profile would be nice. That way anyone who is into trying it can start tuning it in. I want to have the profile so I can experiment with different texture builds to see what performance I can squeeze out. Also when the GECK comes out I’m sure there will be a bunch of in-depth performance mods that will get the memory consumption down.

I will probably take a whack at modding the open world to be less open if that makes sense. Close up a lot of the open buildings and make them have their own separate interior spaces (more like old Bethesda games).

Anyway a hot fix or mini update to include the option to mess with a G3D profile? If you can get just the functionality to work like it does in Skyrim/New Vegas then let us worry about how to get the frames on our particular machines.

You did such a great job with the other Bethesda titles I’m looking forward to trying it out in Fallout 4. Remember I just want the functionality, I’m not expecting you to somehow make the game run or perform better.

    Hi Ralf,

I am experiencing head tracking judder in Skyrim (steam version) and I was wondering is there was anything I should look for. G3D is not playable so I use Z-Normal (for clarity of image) Here are my specs:

    AMD FX8310 3.4Ghz
    8GIG RAM
    GTX 970
    361 NVIDIA Drivers
    Windows 10
    DK2 Rift with SDK .8
    Vorpx 9

    Your product is awesome…thanks Ralf!

Considering that it’s the “DirectX Game Memory Management Service 2” that causes the issue, you could also check your GPU mem consumption. Just a guess, but playing a game with vorpX requires considerably more GPU memory than playing a game without vorpX.

With a recent GPU with >3GB video memory that shouldn’t be an issue at all in Skyrim, but maybe still worth to check in case you use extra huge hi-res texture packs for example.

There is a nifty little tool called nVInspector that allows you to monitor GPU mem consumption and a lot more.

So, everything was fine until I updated to the newest nvidia drivers.
Then, for some reason, my Runtime decided it would not detect my DK2, so I reinstalled and fixed that issue.
Since then I’m getting BSOD about dxgmms2.sys ONLY when using Skyrim with VorpX.

I’ve tried everything I could think of, and it has not served any purpose; on the other hand, I have seen this library has been causing problems in Win 10 (The OS I use, Pro version) since as early as October, maybe before that.

10220 seems to be the Windows build that started it all, but I’ve had a newer version for a while and no problems until that point. “dxgmms2” standing for “DirectX Game Memory Maanagement Service 2”, and being such a widespread issue, one would think either MS would do something about it (they haven’t) or it would affect most games. Oddly enough, in my system, Skyrim + VorpX seems to be the only thing that triggers the BSOD. I can play Skyrim on screen and I can use VorpX with other games, even with FO4, which uses a more modern version of the same engine.

There is one fix, however, that has proven to work completely, and it is to install the last Win8 NV Drivers released before DX12 release. While this would be great if I didn’t use an OR, Runtime 0.8 needs a later version which, I have tested, still has the problem.

This clearly is MS’ fault, not Ralf’s, but, still, I’d like to ask you, Ralf, if you could take a look into it and possibly avoid calling this service since it has proven to be problematic.

    Thanks.

The only important things are applying the Game Optimizer tweaks, setting the FOV to 120 (in Skyrim there is a button for that in the vorpX ingame menu) and adjusting the head tracking sensitivity. You should not have to change anything else besides maybe adjusting HUD scale and depth to your liking.

Scale should be quite natural with the default settings, but if you want to change it, you can do so by adjusting the 3D Strength. The higher the camera separation, the smaller the scene is perceived.

The black screen on the desktop is how it is supposed to be, nothing showing on the headset not, of course.

Please first install the current Oculus runtime 0.8. While 0.7 may work, it was never tested, so you should get that out of the way as a possible cause of the issue.

If that doesn’t help, and you are using mods, please next try a fresh Skyrim install without any mods. Some mods (“ENB” or other graphics mods, mods using a “script extender” etc.) may interfere with vorpX, so those also should be ruled out as a possible cause of an issue.

hello, i have a problem with vorpx, all games don’t work on vorpx. i have oculus rift dk2 and vorpx last version, but when I start the game that crashes immediately and head tracking is on for one second, then turns off. but windows desktop viewer works perfectly. I have directx 11 video card nvidia geforce 850m. the game crashed with skyrim, left for Dead2 and outlast because I’ve only tried these games

I have the same issue, only that the desktop viewer also crashes. If you find out a solution, please post it here!

Skyrim + dk2 + vorpx is excellent, especially in the latest version of vorpx (well done to the vorpx team).

There is a problem with the fov’s. The FOV needs to be about 120 but this makes your hands/arms etc huge. I searched for a solution, some suggested using view mods but they’re not ideal and a bit messy.

A solution is to go into your Skyrim.ini file (in ..\Documents\My Games\Skyrim) change 2 values to these:

    fDefaultWorldFOV=120
    fDefault1stPersonFOV=90

The first value sets the game fov. The seconds sets the fov of your hands/arms etc (your 1st person view).

You must also do the following for these changes to take effect and persist:

Start Skyrim, load a save or a new game, press tab, select map. Then exit the map. You’ll see the fov’s from the ini file take effect. Save the game. Fov’s are now permanent.

Obviously you can change the fov value’s to suit your taste.

In the end I copied the 0.8.1 vorpx files from my laptop to the desktop and rolled back oculus to 0.5.1, essentially duplicating the last known working setup. I can confirm that I now have working Geometry mode including configurable 3D and positional tracking.

So whatever the issue is, it is specific to vorpx 0.9. I wonder if it is related to resolution? I have to run 0.8.1 in dk2 extended mode which detects the native resolution of the headset so I can start skyrim in 1980×1024, but in 0.9 I must select 1280×1024 since my monitor is rubbish. Although I thought the new version was supposed to scale resolutions.

I hope this helps identify the cause to duplicate the issue in your end. In the meantime I can play. Thanks for your support and great software!

PS- I don’t know if you’re aware but vorpx’s gamepad mapping of triggers seems to be broken. They stutter when held down so can’t be used for charging spells etc. I bought a new gamepad thinking the others were busted but it’s specific to vorpx.

Since Skyrim is still a very popular game, I’m happy to look into this if something like this gets reported by anyone else.

Until then I can just say what I said above, sorry. Skyrim is very regularly checked here and also one of the most heavily used games for years. Despite being not reproducible here, there are also absolutely no reports of this issue thus far, which doesn’t make it impossible, but definitely highly unlikely that your problem is caused by vorpX.

The only other thing I can think of that maybe you switched to Z-Buffer 3D from the default Geometry 3D. Positional tracking always is G3D only.

If that also is not your issue: maybe uninstalling and then reinstalling vorpX can help. This resets all settings to their default values, maybe something is messed up in a really odd way.

Nothing else I can suggest, sorry. Considering it’s Skyrim I’d look into this if there was even a remote possibility that there is a genral issue, but in this case I can assure you 100% that there is none. It’s not only not reproducible here, there also have been zero other reports of this issue, which always is a good indicator whether something may be a bug or not, especially for popular games like Skyrim.
