I cannot play Amnesia Dark Descent at all. Both eyes get flashing flickering of the game and the frame rates is so low it would be less than 1 frame per second. Im running win 10 64 bit. AMD fx-8350 Black edition and an R9 390x video card. Quake 2 does the exact same thing. I have tried many settings to no avail. Games like Skyrim and fallout 4 run just fine. It seems to be a possible issue with Open GL not really sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Update:

I deleted my local Skyrim settings in my documents and it has fixed the issue, i’m not sure which setting was causing this but it was only causing it for Vorpx – My y-axis for both the mouse and my controller were not inverted

Already on the list for the next version. Just forgot to answer your post.

There are a few games where live switching isn’t possible (e.g. Skyrim), but for all that allow it, it will be made available via hotkey.

The most important thing you have to adjust is the field of view (FOV), which has to be higher than for playing on a monitor in full VR mode (120° for Vive).

For some games the Optimizer does that, for others you have to do it in the game’s option menu, the vorpX ingame menu (Skyrim for example has an “Adjust FOV” button in the vorpX menu). If none of these is available an external tool like Flawless Widescreen or Widescreen Fixer might help.

If you didn’t do so already, please read the Essential Hints guide in the vorpX help, which explains this and other noteworthy things. The help also contains a quick and dirty setup “1-2-3 Game Setup” that always works, but doesn’t provide the best possible result.

If games open in Virtual Cinema Mode there usually is a reason for that. Third person games for example ar better played that way. First person games however open in Full VR mode per default. You can disable Virtual Cinema Mode in the vorpX ingame menu (press DEL), but for third person games it’s usually the better choice.

Ark and SC2 are not supported games, they might or might not work.

    Hi,

I’ve been trying to get Vorpx working with Skyrim, but i’m having trouble with my Y axis being inverted. The X axis works perfectly with the in-game camera, but looking up or down doesn’t work (I’m pretty sure the Y axis doesn’t actually move the camera either, it moves the ‘image’ of the game), changing settings in the in-game Vorpx menu relating to headtracking completely stops the camera movement in-game with my HMD

Does anybody know what i’ve done wrong?

Hey guys i got vorpx last night and seems like every game ive played looks like im in a theater mode type of deal. I’ve tried bf4, skyrim, ark(just crashes), csgo and sc2(doesnt hook)… Looking at supported games csgo is on there but theres no optimization and it makes me sad i dont fully get how to adjust everything as im still learning but just seems like every game is in a theater mode and when its not i just see a big box and nothing seems like a first person like a normal vr game is. Any ideas on what could possibly be wrong or what im doing wrong? also the games that have optimization say the its optimized but nothing changes in the headset. Im on the vive

Yea, something strange is happening to your setup.
I have a 980Ti as well and skyrim plays at 90fps with 2x upscaled resolution in geometry mode.

Try reinstalling the Nvidia drivers and then maybe see if your runtime is updated too.

Are you using Windows 10? cause Windows 10 is know to mess up random stuff for some people.

Could also be the CPU. While very strong in benchmarks, for some reason the 2*** generation Intels are having weird issues in recent stuff. Heard of many guys who went from 2500k to 4*** or 6*** and say even though their clock speeds are lower, their gaming performance got much better.

Borus your just too bad ass I guess. Everyone I’ve had use my set up with Skyrim is blown away. It’s in the top 5 games for VR. Either you don’t have it set up well or again your just too damn cool. I think you should focus on getting it set up better because if you like Skyrim then VR is just over the top impressively sweet. I don’t know I just prefer AAA games that are actually games and not amateur hour tech demos that Oculus and Vive are hawking as full game currently.

    Sounds promising, thanks Ralf!

Until then could you answer a quick Skyrim question for me?

I am getting high 80’s FPS with Z-adaptive but when I turn my head (CV1) I get ghosting images rendering it unplayable so I go back to G3D and get 38 – 57 FPS but smoother. Ideas as to the cause in Z-adaptive?

Should veritcal sync in NVidia control panel be on, off or adaptive for Skyrim?

    Many Thanks!
    Jamie
P.S. COD or Battlefield? Going to buy one.

    Hi Ralf,

I am sure you heard about Bethesda launching re-mastered version of Skyrim this October. Do you know if any changes within the game (like graphics engine or Direct X support) will allow Vorpx to run the game at a higher framerate.

I guess I am wondering if this remastered version will eliminate all the FPS issues we have in G3D mode.

    Thoughts?
    Nos

You can choose any resolution you want in the game options. The default recommendation of 1280×1024 is a compromise between quality and performance. for the best possible quality choose 1600×1200 or 1920×1440. Just keep an eye on performance, especially new games might not run fast enough with higher resolutions. If your monitor does not support these resolutions, running games windowed may help.

In a handful of games (e.g. Skyrim) you can also upscale internally in vorpX. The according option is called Internal Resolution Upscale and can be found on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu if it is avilable for a game.

You can choose any resolution you want. The default recommendation is a general compromise between performance and quality. For Skyrim you can choose a higher res though (e.g. 1600×1200 or 1920×1440). It’s CPU bound with vorpX, so a higher res doesn’t impact performance too much.

Alternatively you can use the “Internal Resolution Upscale” option in the vorpX ingame menu (image page). For Skyrim and a few other games vorpX has this ability.

With a decent Core i5/i7 and an unmodded Skyrim on medium to high settings you should get ~50fps in most parts of the map with dips below that in towns (especially Whiterun). For significantly better performance Z-Buffer 3D is the way to go.

    Heya,

I bought VorpX a few weeks ago and am having a ball in my Vive with it playing Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Now my problem is in the Virtual Cinema mode. I am using VLC with my Vive and it works great for most movies. But I can’t change any Virtual Cinema settings. For example I want to change the background in the Virtual Cinema to no Background, but I can’t find the settings to do so! In games, I press the DEL key and I can change all the settings I want, but in Virtual Cinema mode, I can only change the volume. And when I press the DEL key, nothing happens!

I also want to watch SBS 3D movies in VLC. When I play them through the VorpX Virtual Cinema, the movie plays, but it’s in 2 side by side windows, not interleaved as one. Again, pressing the DEL key does nothing. What am I missing here? I haven’t found any info in the VorpeX configs about what key to use in the Virtual Cinema mode to change anything.

    Help!

OK I am confused. Can you clarify this for me?

On Skyrim, I see massive activity on both cards on my Crossfire rig. When I shut one card down, I fall -to- 7-12 FPS in geometry mode (heavily modded Skyrim)

I am assuming you mean that VorpX ‘in and of itself’ is not ‘also’ using SLI/Crossfire rendering? In other words, the Games still use Crossfire/SLI to do their thing before VorpX does what it does, but VorpX is processing on one card?
