I just bought vorpX. It’s registered. My version of Oculus Home is 1.4. I have vorpX open. When I start Skyrim, nothing happens. It’s just the regular game. Does vorpX not work with Oculus 1.4? Or is there something else I’m doing wrong?
You can use any resolution you want. Try 1600×1200 or 1920×1440 if your PC can handle that for the best possible image quality. The default recommendation of 1280×1024 is a compromise between quality and performance.
If you are seeing a screen in front you in full VR mode, you probably have changed the Image Zoom setting on the image page of the vorpX menu. Please make sure to reset the Image Zoom to the default 1.0 and the aspect mode to Pixel 1:1.
These are the defaults for Skyrim, and with these settings the whole image is filled, so you are fully in the game. If you already tweaked a lot, it might make sense to restore the default profile in the config app.
Instead of using image zoom, set the game’s field of view (FOV) to the value suggested for your headset. in Skyrim that is particularly easy. You just have to click the “Adjust FOV” button on the main page of the vorpX ingame menu.
In regard to performance please make sure to use an unmodded Skyrim and do not use any performance degrading ini tweaks (uGridsToLoad etc.). Skyrim is a highly CPU intensive game, even more so with vorpX in Geometry 3D mode.
With an unmodded Skyrim and a recent CPU you should be able to get ~50fps in most parts of the map with dips below that in towns (especially Whiterun).
If you want to enhance your framerate significantly beyond that, change to Z-Buffer 3D in the vorpX menu. Doesn’t look as good, but is a lot faster.
Installed VorpX today to try some classic games on the Vive. My PC has an i7 processor and a GTX980 — VR generally looks amazing on this system.
I did a fresh install of Skyrim, added some recommended Mods… loaded it up with VorpX… and the game looks absolutely awful. Low resolution, low frame rate, latency issues — and it’s all projected on what looks like a big movie screen. (Not theater mode — just a “window” into the world.) Yes, the image is 3D, and head tracking roughly works… but immersive this was not.
I was expecting to be IN Skyrim.
Am I missing something here? I played with the settings a bit but couldn’t find anything that gets anywhere close.
Was I just vastly overestimating what the injector can do?
Thanks alot for the tip Hannes.
I tried using the war hammer profile as you suggested and imported the ESO.exe, it gives me the geometry option, but my right eye is black when i use it. The HUD shows but none of the actual in game environment. Please let me know if there is any way I can fix that. However the Z3D options work and do provide a slight 3D effect, so it will do for the time being I suppose. I really wish they would add the full 3D back to ESO, I never even got to experience it :(
Can any one tell me how is the Fallout 4 vorpx experience. Im looking forward to playing that full in VR as well. I’m just loving Skyrim in VR after I got all the proper mods and settings right. Unfortunately I only get 30 fps with a GTX 970. A few more frames would be nice, but I haven’t tried to go below ultra setting yet. Gonna be playing all the good Location Quest mods in VR, any recommendations?
I’ve got Skyrim working perfectly except the trees, shrubs and grass seem really pixelated.
Does anyone know of any texture mods that can help?
It’s the only thing that stopping me from enjoying my gameplay.
Heya – so is there any way to increase the amount of effect of various of the in-game menu items – specifically with separation, focal offset and UI depth ? I find that in skyrim (for example) if i get the separation and the focal offset right for me (which is often 0.3 and -0.1 respectively), then the UI is doubled when I focus in the distance (ie to infinity), and pushing the UI depth as far as it lets me (ie 1.0) partially corrects it by bringing the two UI images together, but in order to fully correct it it looks as though I would need to push the UI depth to 1.2 or possibly even 1.4 – so is there any way to make it go further (by editing files etc) ? Or is there anyway we could get the degree of effect of these various parameters increased significantly – like up to 2.0 for each one etc ? Thanks

I did my research and this setup is what I decided on because it will deliver, I think, very good VR performance with Vorpx. I’m waiting on the 1080 hybrid so haven’t been able to test it with the CV1 with Vorpx yet but I was curious what does anyone think the performance/fps will be for these games (Fallout NV, Fallout 4, Skyrim, and GTA 5). Thanks.
Hello, I recently bought Vorpx and its a great software. I almost have Skyrim looking great. However it would be really nice to have Geometry 3D and some positional tracking in ESO like how it is in Skyrim. Its so amazing!!! I just bought ESO yesterday and plan on playing the entirety of it in VR on my Vive. I realize it used to have proper Geometry 3D and it would be amazing if we can have it again.
If anyone can give me tip on how to optimize ESO for VR. Everything is still a slight bit zoomed in for me even after changing the FOV in game as must as I can. and even Zooming out the image to the point where I see a little grey.
I am also trying to figure out how to get other users Vorpx profiles.Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
I remembered that ENB can be used in wrapper mode, instead of injection. So my question is: could i run a Skyrim with a light performance ENB in wrapper mode while using vorpX (injector)?
Do not tweak too much. While there are many options available, the only two things that absolutely must be addressed are field of view (FOV) to get a natural image and head tracking sensitivity for proper 1:1 tracking.
Popular games that are usually considered working well are for example: Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, Fallout 4 (G3D probably too slow on most PCs though), Borderlands 1 + 2, Portal 2.
In general you should be able to get almost any first person game working to a satisfactory level by adjusting FOV and head tracking sensitivity.
The vorpX help also has a short guide describing a quick and dirty setup that works with almost everything very quick (“The 1-2-3 Game Setup”). It usually doesn’t provide the best possible result, but gets everything to a playable state.
Skyrim is one of the very few games where switching between G3D and Z3D is not possible without restarting the game, sorry.
I believe Skyrim has some special rendering stuff to get proper shadows in G3D and that is why restart is required. Actually my Geo3D FPS is not too bad (40 – 60) but I just really like to hit the steady 75 fps (DK2) and keep good visual quality that only Z3D can achieve. I already use SKSE memory hack which is the best possible I believe.
Ohh ok I get what you mean.. That is kinda odd that you have to exit out each time you change it. Not sure what it’s “supposed” to behave like, haven’t played Skyrim in a while. Maybe it’s G3D is somehow more complicated to switch to or something so it has to exit out first. Gunna have to ask the Ralphster if he has any ideas. Also you could try to use a memory hack to see if you can bump up your FPS inside G3D so you might not need to switch back and forth.
Not sure if this will help but maybe you have to turn on “expert” option in the vorpx config program. Maybe it will unlock the G3D option for Skyrim once your in game?
