I’m wondering does the new head tracking in DirectVR make it so you can look around during conversations? I read a post that says the new head tracking does indeed “free” the camera view during conversations. In the old version of vorpX I’m using you can move your head around but the camera wont move until the mouse pointer reaches the edge of the screen. So the new update lets you have free camera look while in conversations? How do you select dialog options, with the arrow keys or can you use the mouse still? Just really curious as to how that aspect functions. The version I have is tuned in and perfect but the only thing bugging me is the conversations camera being the way it is. Anyone maybe have any video of a conversation with the new DirectVR for Skyrim?

    Hey everyone,
I’m running HTC Vive on an older laptop (i7-4700 and a GTX 770m), and originally planned to make an extended step-by-step guide on running Morrowind with modern mods through Vorpx.. citing my “low-spec” build and how it runs, versus my future high-spec build so others could have ease of access to run a modern rendition of many people’s favourite RPG, but I have encountered a big problem that has gotten in the way of such a thing:

Due to the fact that I have an older laptop(I’m assuming), running SteamVR with Direct Mode on will not work(and oh god have I tried), which in turn, unfortunately, neuters the functionality of Vorpx.

On the plus side, I’ve managed to circumvent this issue through using the following steps:
    1.Turning off SteamVR
    2. Choosing “Generic VR headset (extended mode)” option under the Device Selection drop-down in general options
    3. Choosing the “Show on all monitors(clone)” selection.
    4. Run the game.
    5. (Optional) While running the game, re-enabling SteamVR,going into SteamVR settings, and enabling the vive headphone functionality in the Audio Settings tab.

This works fine and dandy with geometry-3d (and its gorgeous by the way!) and DirectVR setting seems to inject fine as well. Minus one critical feature: Head-tracking. Head-tracking is turned off by default, and is the only thing missing to an otherwise totally functional experience for people in my situation.

Ralf has made it clear in previous posts that Direct Mode is what Vorpx is programmed for, but considering its current near-perfect functionality in extended mode (Testing on Fallout: New Vegas), what i’m wondering is if there is any way I could fiddle with the settings to enable head-tracking? Maybe using a previous version would help out as well? Any advice on the situation is much appreciated, I can get by for these few months without head-tracking but if there was another way to go about this I’d love to give it a whirl. Thanks for reading, I hope this issue can be resolved so others with sub-par gaming rigs can jump in on the VR experience before building their super rigs as I have :)

I had something similar happen with Fallout New Vegas. I installed some kind of mod and the scan kept failing.

My solution to the problem was deleting and reinstalling Fallout New Vegas while backing up my saves. It fixed the DirectVR scan problems, and I didn’t lose my game progress.

Oh yes, of course you can’t purchase it with the subject matter.

Anyway it works now, much thanks.

DirectVR is a real accomplishment and improves VorpX no end.

Thanks Ralf, and I’m aware that DirectVR doesn’t directly improve the image, however just having the FOV set correctly, and the buttery smooth head movement helps make everything look better overall.

I’m now on the hunt for a 1080ti, I haven’t actually done any benchmarking of Vorpx, but I’m assuming that the GPU is the bottleneck in most situations?

Bioshock Infinite is now running crash free, and looks amazing with DirectVR! I just played for a couple of hours and it ran rock solid, and the only issue was the movement freezing when I tried to use one of the binocular stations. Solution; just don’t use the binoculars ;)

Now what I’m trying to understand is why some games (such as Infinite) look so good and run so smoothly at the 1280×1024 resolution, while other games tend to look far softer and more aliased running at the same resolution?

Is there something unique about the Unreal 3 engine?

I tried the scan like 50 times now restarting the game a dozen times the scan always fails.. luckily this one works damn well with default profile but just curious if anyone knows why the scan doesn’t work

i found with directvr you gotta go into third person do the scan then go back into first person

I tried that just now and it didn’t work. The rotation scan says Success but there is no rotation tracking after that. I guess there is something else that is influencing this.

omg thank you so much Ralf for this amazing update 😀

re7 in G3D, my dream comes true.
GTA5 in g3D another of my dream comes true.
and all other games support & improvements are also greatness.

time to get some VR fun now 😀

Is there some trick to getting GTA V working? I just tried playing with the new 17.2 vorpx update, however I’m getting a ‘Direct Vr failed’ error while the game is booting and going through the company info text screens.

When I get in game the Alt-L DirectVR button combo doesn’t do anything, however the Alt-Space re-center seems to work.

    Am I missing something?

I believe I’m using Immersive First Person with Skyrim, and it works fine. But it seems to be incompatible with DirectVR, so you have to pick one or the other.

Never seemed to have a problem with L4D2, but I never found a way to increase the 3D FOV to a level where the game world looked right.

OK this has been driving me crazy but finally fixed it.. first off I had to remove steams cloud backup thing then delete all my old saves and skyrims ini.. then i had to re-import the skyrim profile from cloud backup.. then i installed this mod http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49036/? and skse. Then after getting in game and making new character once you get your first weapon go into third person view and do the directVR scan. Then go back into first person view and you should be all set. I found if you do the scan in first person with this mod headtracking gets all screwed up.. The scaling seems off when doing the scan in third person so adjust the 3d strength after the scan

ok i sort of figured it out using immersive camera.. you gotta do the DirectVR scan in third person view then zoom into first person.. i’m trying to figure out why i can’t perm delete my saves though

No issues for me as of yet.
I did notice that GTA5 seemed to be giving me DirectVR fail messages though.
And no way to change the FOV in cinema, so I had to use Flawless widescreen for that.
