(maybe I’m reposting this, I can’t see it published, sorry)

Can I get a downgrade please ? I think Windows 7 compatibility is broken from 19.2.0, if there were any option to Rollback … I can give it a try and tell you from when it’s broken. I think downgrading profiles also, can be a problem.

I was thinking this was a problem with HL2, but after many many tries, no game in my computer is working as expected right now. The majority of them crash on launch, in everyone else i can’t see anything at all.

But i get a clue, that can be helpful for you Ralf. Every game i can launch without crashing is rendering at the wrong resolution. First of all, every hud or menu is streched to a portion of the screen. I mean the monitor, there is no image at the hmd at all, but …

I managed to enter the game in bioshock infinite, but every menu was broken (wrong cursor location), streched as always, and in-game … i was able to adjust DirectVR, and everything (3D) was zoomed. So I check it and: vorpx was rendering just that portion of the screen to the headset.

So I think VorpX is just retrieving the wrong resolution, or something similiar. This can have something to do with these entries of the changelog:

    * New headset render target size calculation slightly modified.
    * D3D9 Z3D pipeline init was incomplete (vorpX 18.1.5 regression).
    * Z3D did not work anymore in various games when loading pre 19.1.0 profiles.
    * D3D9 Z3D HUD scaling was not working anymore in some games despite the feature being available.

Please, give me some solution. I paid for this.
As others said, i cannot recommend it knowing
that it can just stop working someday because
in windows 10 everything seems easy to the
developer. At least release some kind
of Legacy version when you get
    aware of the problem, if
    you are not going to
    work in a fix for
    archieve retro-
    compatibility.

    Thanks.

or any program you setup prior to that ?

what about your graphics card ?
    mine is an AMD RX480
    Latest Drivers

ok, I changed the cable for an hdmi one, and i got no more problems with fullscreen games, mainly because there is no screen-clones now. But i cannot play yet with the default profile to any Hl2 mods. First: Hl2.exe does not hook until i download the profile [vorpx] from the cloud. Then: Playing with that profile gives me a black screen in the vive. I also downloaded the profile for Portal2 and tried to play with it, and It Works !

I tried to play hl2 with that profile, but i have to rename the game (to hl4.exe) then I applied the Portal2 profile (a copy) and was able to play, but there is not DirectVR. I thought it was maybe due to another process hooking to hl2.exe but not hl4.exe but i tried to play with a copy of the Hl2 profile, and i got the same result as before: Black Screen.

So, for anyone that can fix this: Portal 2 profile and Half-Life 2 ones, have some difference that is causing this. I can’t go any deeper because there is no shader tool or expert settings i can see, when applying the Hl2 profile.

    Thanks.

HL2 itself has the same bug as (at least) this mod. It’s happening whatever mod i use, including portal 2 for example. Sometimes, when the game opens in full screen, the screen freezes at desktop when the game is in focus, but i can return to the real desktop alt-tabbing, it freezes again when i maximize the game. So, when i did that logfile, hl2 was configured in full screen (i can’t open it) and used DoD:Source instead to produce the bug i’m talking about, because i can myself set the game to windowed mode and play anyway.

What happens is that the game hooks, overlay is showing ingame, i can move the mouse with my head, but the screen on HMD is just black. I’m not seeing the OpenVR background, or anything at all. So i supose the hmd is detected, and is attached to a game. But i can’t even open the config menu of vorpx, or see anything at all. Inclusive the DirectVR Scan is working, as always, but there is just a black screen in my htc vive.

I already (as commented before) tried to close practically any executable and service that is not part of windows, and launch just Steam -> OpenVR -> VorpX -> HL2 (or any mod) and nothing. I closed everything, allthough i know it was working before… nothing. There is one thing i not tried yet … some months ago i changed the HDMI cable for a Display Port one (so i can connect another screen to the hdmi port). My Graphics Card is a RX480, and has 2xDP and 2xHDMI. I start thinking maybe this is happening sice i changed that cable.

I was not playing for some months, but until then i was playing most of the time DoD, Garrys and other mods because it was my favourite Engine for VorpX. In February i tried to play Synergy and since then, i’m not playing with vorpx anymore because of this. Other games are usually too demanding for my computer, or i am too lazy to optimize it like i did with source.

So, this start happening between october 2018 and february, time when there were some Hl2 updates (and Native-Vr Beta removed) also OpenVr updates, and some new Catalyst drivers. I installed and removed various programs in that time, also updated some of them, but i already tried to close them. Also, i rebooted windows removing some services and startup items, to just try this, nothing. So I give up, there are so many things potentially doing this, i’m not just formating or keep auditing my computer for months. Sometimes i get a new idea of what is causing this, i try and is even more frustating than before.

So I’m just sharing this, so you know there are still some users having this trouble and … if anyone has solved this without changing of operating system, please, share with us. Also, please, leave a comment if you are also getting a black screen with Hl2 or other games, so we can reduce the search. I’m pretty sure this is just happening with Windows 7 x64, but also with oculus.

Maybe some day i can fix this, before
    updating my whole computer. Thanks.

Excuse me, but i was not able to do Hl2 Work again yet.
I tried everything, inclusive updating drivers a
couple of times, also steamvr, i hope
it was temporal, but not. I tried
stopping a lot of services and
    applications, but i can’t
    still find the culprit.

There are some suspects in my list
maybe one of those hooks are
    still running although i
    closed the executable
    or the service but
    I am not sure
    wich of them

    By the way, it is
    Windows 7 x64

    Anyway, i’m sending right now
    a troubleshoting archive
    to the support mail.
    Please, check it.

    Thanks

Okay, so I will start testing today …
I’m a freak of game optimization

Of course, i already did a bunch of
    factory resets while reinstalling
    and uninstalling VorpX, nothing.

But I will try to close every program
i can, it seems there is a conflict.

    I will update this thread
    if i find it. Thanks.

No, I’m using Htc Vive, and already removed the openvr dlls
from all the source games (at least wich i tried to run)
I’m testing only with hl2 for now, there is a message
saying I need to empty or disable the cache to
Re-scan, but i think is not about that.

Tracking is working, but i can’t just
see anything in the hmd, not even
the menu of VorpX, so i can’t
    make changes to the config.

I think this already happened before:

[Unsupported Games] Some DX9 games not terminating properly

VorpX and Vive and Source Games Technical Issue

The message I see in the logs is the same:

INF: ProgState: First Time Init 1
INF: Vive Controller Manager: No controller found
    INF: Vive Controller Manager: Initialized
    INF: TrackerOpenVR: Init
INF: OpenVRDirectModeManager: base initialized, mode: extra thread
    INF: OpenVRDirectModeManager: renderer initialized.
WRN: OpenVRDirectModeManager Submit Error: 101 101
    INF: MemScanManger: cache readiness: r:t p:t f:t
    INF: SettingsUI: Init

    – No Controller Found
    – Submit Error 101

It is probably happening with more games,
but i think it will be simple to solve
once the bug is located, but i have
    not enough experience with this.

to finish: I have an AMD RX480 4GB
    and also Updated the Drivers
    recently, can be the cause.
    19.3.3 but there is a
    19.4.1 i don’t want
    to update yet.

    Thank You.

I reinstalled VorpX, verified game integrity
an also tried beta version of steamvr
i think this came from one of its
updates and not the HL2 ones

    It seems the HMD is
    not being detected.

    What to do next ?

I have the same problem, since the last update.
No Source Game is working anymore (a couple
of months ago i was playing DoD Source)
Now, every Hl2 mod is showing a
    Black Screen in the headset.

The overlay is here, but i had to
    download the cloud profile because
prior to that it was not
    hooking to the game.

    Please Help.
