RalfKeymasterThat option should be used only as a last resort for games that neither have DirectVR head tracking nor mouse based head tracking, true e.g. for many racing games. Games filter gamepad input heavily, so it’s usually quite laggy.
RalfKeymasterNothing has changed in vorp that may cause your irritation/inflamation. You can be sure that there would be others reporting such an issue too if vorpX would cause it.
Try to recalibrate your IPD (eye distance) in the Oculus software, maybe you changed it accidentally.
RalfKeymasterProbably related to DirectVR camera handling. Try to disable DirectVR in cutscenes or don’t run the scanner if that does not help.
RalfKeymasterPlease make sure that the installer has access to your Documents folder.
You may have activated an additional feature in your AV scanner that requires you to manually unlock access to that folder for programs.
RalfKeymasterNot impossible but unlikely, at least for Geometry 3D. So far every Far Cry profile required some kind of special treatment to be considered in a playable state.
RalfKeymasterMenus are scalable, DirectVR is supported fully (auto FOV, auto resolution, auto 1:1 head tracking), both G3D and Z3D available, you can play with motion controllers (as gamepad substitute) if you want. As said above there isn’t much more you can expect vorpX wise for a game than what is available here.
If you used vorpX for the last time in the DK2 days and found it worthwhile then, you will be pleasently surprised about what it can do now, especially for games that are as fully supported as this one.
RalfKeymasterSince you already own vorpX, I would say you can safely buy the game. It’s worth to be played even in case you shouldn’t like it in VR.
RalfKeymasterThe profile supports almost all bells and whistles that vorpX has to offer these days, so vorpX wise it works quite well.
Whether you will like the game itself or not noone can really tell you besides yourself though. :)
RalfKeymasterYou should be able to get around the cutscene glitch by temporarily disabling vorpX’s DirectVR head tracking with a hotkey during cutscenes (or by not actvating it at all and using the default mouse based head tracking instead).
RalfKeymasterThe official cloud profile has been updated and should work again with the Steam version. The user profile you used is rather old, it probably makes sense to use the official one due to a couple of fixes that were done since then.
Thanks again for the hint!
RalfKeymasterThat’s the way it works, sorry. If both a gamepad and the mouse (simulated by head tracking) are used the game decides for which of the two it wants to display the hints. In many games it switches seemingly randomly between both.
In games with DirectVR head tracking (e.g. The FarCry games) you can run the Direct VR scanner, afterwards vorpX won’t simulate the mouse anymore for head tracking.
RalfKeymasterThanks for the heads up. I’ll check that.
BTW: If you play in cinema mode, there is a magnifier to help with small text (EdgePeek key). The magnification factor can be adjusted with SHIFT+mousewheel.
RalfKeymasterYou might just have gotten lucky. The game is (or better was beginning with the next vorpX version) caught in an infinite loop whenever it tries to reset its renderer. I also never encountered this when the profile was done, but now it happens on every start. Might be related to the Windows version, but that’s just a guess.
The next vorpX version will address this for good.
RalfKeymasterThat’s some pretty messed up issue with Steam first starting the game, then the game starting EA Origin and ending itself and afterwards Origin launching the game again. Not much that can be done. Similar Steam/Origin issues occur with other EA games (e.g. Mass Effect 2).
Get the Origin edition at a sale, it works just fine. Steam edition needs to be uninstalled or the start process will get even more convoluted.
Alternatively get the GOG version which comes without DRM and avoids all such problems altogether.
For Ubisoft/EA games it’s generally best to buy them directly in their respective storefronts to avoid any potential issues due to the double-DRM.
RalfKeymaster@ LukeRoss: Need for Speed: Most Wanted [2005] and Assassin’s Creed 2 have been fixed in vorpX 18.1.0 last month.
@ haints: The game is probably not exactly the same as the original State of Decay. If possible try the original edition.
