RalfKeymasterConsidering that you seem to have similar issues with multiple games, the most likely issue is injection conflict with some other program on your PC. Many programs also hook into games and can cause such an issue. Not all of them are obvious.
Hottest candidates are: virus scanners, any sort of CPU/GPU utilities, game video recording/streaming software, chat programs and generally everything that can show notifictations in games.
Best way to trouble shoot this is to disable/uninstall programs running in the background.
RalfKeymasterNo issues with head tracking, it’s mouse based so there’s not much that can go wrong, but the latest vorpX has a bug that leads to glitchy graphics in the game (and a handful other DX9 games), so you might want to wait a bit anyway.
RalfKeymasterI’ll look into the it in the not too distance future.
RalfKeymasterPlease re-read the reply above for the explanation why stereo 3D rendering costs a lot of oerformance. Also the game is still in alpha state and poorly optimized, especially in the persistent universe.
For better performance please switch to Z-Buffer 3D in the vorpX menu which usually is a lot faster. That is the only answer I can give you, sorry.
Also again the usual Star Citizen disclaimer: Star Citizen is not officially supported. Like the start message indicates the provided profile is solely for users who like to experiment with the game nonetheless. The game is still in alpha, vorpX might stop working with it (again) at any time.
RalfKeymasterThe post your question was referring to can’t have been correct, there is no way to make G3D working with a user profile at this point for these games. NfS Most Wanted from 2005 and NfS Shift 2 are currently the only NfS games with Geometry 3D.
RalfKeymasterFirst and most important: Star Citizen is not officially supported, like the start message indicates the provided profile is solely for users who like to experiment with the game nonetheless. The game is still in alpha, vorpX might stop working with it (again) at any time.
To answer your question: rendering games in stereo 3D costs about half the performance you normally would see on a monitor since everything has to be rendered twice, in addition to that there is some extra overhead for sending the rendered image to the headset.
Performance in Star Citizen should be good enough for playing Arena Commander missions, but in the persistant universe you probably will have to switch to Z-Buffer 3D in the vorpX menu, which doesn’t look as good but is a lot faster.
RalfKeymasterSLI is not supported, sorry. With some games it *may* work, but with most it probably won’t. Disabling SLI will solve the issue.
RalfKeymasterI can confirm the issue. No immediate solution unfortunately, has to be inspected more closely.
Judging from the error generated by the DirectX runtime forcing the game to run windowed might help. If that is not possible with the game itself, a tool like DxWnd may be worth a shot.
That’s just a guess though.
RalfKeymasterAs much as I’d like to give you a different answer, your AV program is the problem here, not vorpX. The options you have are the ones listed in my prvevious post. Sorry for not being able to recommend anything else.
The options you have are:
- Excluding vorpX from your AV scanner if possible.
- Reporting a false positive to your AV vendor each time a new vorpX version is released.
- Switching to a less invasive AV solution, e.g. Defender on Windows 10 or Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7/8.
RalfKeymasterYou basically have three options to solve this issue:
1. Excluding vorpX from your AV scanner if possible
2. Reporting a false positive to your AV vendor each time a new vorpX version is released.
3. Switching to a less invasive AV solution, e.g. Defender on Windows 10 or Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7/8.
RalfKeymasterUnlike most other programs vorpX hooks into other processes.
As much as I’d like – after all this is as annoying for me as it is for you – I can’t really offer you any other solution to this issue that recommending to either report this as false positive to you AV vendor each time a new vorpX version gezs released, they usually will white list it with a day or two, or as more permanent solution switch to something that gives you more control and allows to exclude vorpX.
BTW: if you are on Windows 7/8 there are Microsoft Security Essentials which is basically the same thing as the built in Defender for Windows 10.
RalfKeymasterMcAfee whitelists individual samples that are provided to them and with the next version the problem starts again. Unfortunately it’s just not feasible to play this game every time a new vorpX version is released.
RalfKeymasterIt’s the AV vendor’s responsibility to provide a solution that actually works without creating false positives or at least ensure that such issues are actually solved if they occur. For the first few updates samples were sent to all major AV vendors that caused issues every time after an update. While those specific samples were then whitelisted, some AV vendors apparently are unable/unwilling to actually solve such issues for good and continue to make problems with each new vorpX version.
If you are using an invasive AV program whos vendor was not able to address this issue for good until now, please either report such problems as a false positive to them or exclude the vorpX program folder from scanning.
RalfKeymasterDemosthenes is 100% right. Some AV scanners use highly aggressive heuristics (guesswork in plain English) that produce a lot of false positives. What’s worse is that they don’t even care to tell their users when they are just guessing. Instead they falsely claim on a regular basis to know they found something malicious with dramatic looking warnings.
Instead of letting yourself scare by software that apparently tries to justify its existence by scaring you as much as possible, switch to something that does a reasonable and good job like Windows Defender for example.
RalfKeymasterMany games use a ‘hardware cursor’ which does not duplicate in stereo. That’s the reason for the vorpX cursor handling in the first place. If this particular game on top of that uses some unusual custom cursor coordinates handling, there might not be much that can be done.
If running the game windowed helps, that’s probably the best solution you can find.
