In reply to: Does ,,direct vr" games looks like native vr?
StreetPreacherParticipantBioshock Infinite is now running crash free, and looks amazing with DirectVR! I just played for a couple of hours and it ran rock solid, and the only issue was the movement freezing when I tried to use one of the binocular stations. Solution; just don’t use the binoculars ;)
Now what I’m trying to understand is why some games (such as Infinite) look so good and run so smoothly at the 1280×1024 resolution, while other games tend to look far softer and more aliased running at the same resolution?
Is there something unique about the Unreal 3 engine?

AerowynXParticipantApparently, the hand models in many games are rendered in a different FOV.
There is a “hand FOV” setting (or something) but it doesn’t work quite right.
For Skyrim and Source Engine games, you coud fix it by using mods, but I don’t know of any.
Most Unreal engine games I’ve tested so far look fine. (Bioshock, Mirroes Edge, Duke Nukem F, Bulletstorm.)
But yeah, those huge hand models are kind of a dealbreaker for me. Black Mesa would be perfect without this issue.i can’t find any mods for skyrim that work.. immersive camera kinda does but it completely jacks up headtracking making it unplayable.. the mods that let you rescale size of limbs don’t have any effect on first person.. people keep saying you can mod it to look good but not a single person has actually shown me a way they just link other peoples post that “claim” it’s fixed but when i try their “fix” it doesn’t work

ChuckHeadParticipantHmm, tried a few other games for a profile (BioShock 2, Dirt 3), and now I just get a “base: start” error message and things wont hook.

RalfKeymasterYou might want to wait until the next vorpX version before you try again. It will be out within the next 10 days or so. I spent almost two weeks on addressing/working around Unreal Engine Direct VR issues recently.
There won’t be a 100% guarantee, a certain crash risk is inherent with something like Direct VR, but after the recent changes I was able to play through the Bioshock Infinite sequence in question about a dozen times without a single crash. Similarly positive test results for a rather crashy sequence in Aliens: Colonial Marines and loading screen crashes in Bioshock 1/2, so I’m quite confident that the changes improved overall Direct VR stability for Unreal Engine games considerably.

StreetPreacherParticipantDoesn’t Bioshock Infinite crash in every cutscene now?
I just started playing Infinite with Vorpx DirectVR, and the game seemed to stall when I got to the bit where you’re supposed to throw the baseball. I had to disable vorpx and play through that bit normally, and then started up with Vorpx at the next autosave point.
My only issue now is that the game is constantly crashing during gameplay. I’m currently in the gun fight just after the baseball throwing bit, and the game is crashing at different points during the battle… Not sure if it’s Vorpx causing the crashes, planning to try playing through this bit without vorpx today to see if it still crashes…
Anyone else having issues with random crashes during hectic fights while using vorpx?
And I actually like aiming with my face, I’ve been making headshots like a pro, so hopefully this will make the battles go faster and I can concentrate on enjoying the story and environment ;)

StreetPreacherParticipantPlease use the original Bioshock (in DX9 mode). A profile for the remaster exists in the currrent dev build, but isn’t available yet.
The remaster doesn’t make much sense BTW. since the original Bioshock performs a lot better with vorpX while looking almost identical. Unless you stand directly in front of a wall you will hardly notice any difference. Absolutely not worth it considering the performance drop compared to the original.
Thanks, I was just trying to get this working last night after having such great results with Infinite. I guess I’ll try to find a copy of the original game instead, it’s just easier to find the remaster these days…

StreetPreacherParticipantSkyrim SE???
Not sure if you set it already but if not try it with 1920×1440 resolution set manually in Skyrim.prefs and set the Fov 110 110 in game using the console. This was the main reason to buy it and works really good.
I have adjusted the size of everything a little 😛
Also, do you see any performance loss while playing more than…let´s say an hour?
I’m also impressed with the head tracking with the new DirectVR implementation. My only problem is that the FOV scan always fails, and when I try to set a FOV of 110 in the console the view initially changes, but when I close the console the FOV goes back to what it was before…
So far it’s a huge improvement though, this, FAllout 4 and Bioshock Infinite are a joy to play in VR now. Just not sure why I can’t get the original Bioshock Remastered edition working…

maximus2k16ParticipantExcept this thread was not originally about you or Bioshock 2…

vpxtstParticipantI was finally able to get Bioshock 2 working after I disabled my antivirus and installed a ReVive update that was sitting in the notification area of my system tray. Dunno if one or both of those things above is what needed to be done, but it works for me now so I’m happy.

passprogressParticipantWhen playing both direct VR of skyrim and bioshock infinite, rotating my head only move a static image left and right up and down. Its also very blurry in skyrim.

RalfKeymasterThere will be some changes to both the Bioshock and Bioshock 2 Direct VR profile in the next vorpX version. A certain crash risk is inherent when directly writing into game memory, but on three test machines in Bioshock 1 it’s now possible to switch levels without issues here, with some luck that will also help with your Bioshock 2 issue.
There always is a chance that your system behaves different though.

MyrilionParticipantI had to deactivate my virus scanner.
But the game is crashing every 10 minutes. And the graphics are worse than “BioShock 1”. Disappointing.

vpxtstParticipantOkay, I can get the game to run if I use Bioshock2 remastered, but not the original Bioshock2.
Also, Bioshock2 remastered doesn’t support VorpX DirectVR. If it does, then it just doesn’t support the auto-tracking (Alt L) feature?
