vpxtstParticipantI’m also having problems with Bioshock2 and VorpX. I haven’t tried Bioshock 2 remastered yet to see if that works better.

FuriousParticipantI got it working with the Oculus Rift using the Bioshock Infinite profile.
Geometry 3D is not working, causes graphical abnormalities when I enable it.
Also the hud scaling is not working. I added a cloud profile if you want to try it.Feb 2, 2017 at 10:01pm #125676In reply to: Which games works the best?
RasseruParticipantit might be my processor, the performance wasn’t great. Maybe bioshock is more my level for the time being
Oh, the other thing that weirded me out was that head tracking was weird, rotating to the sides were like looking at a big screen, then when my eyes hit the edge of the screen the rotation starts. Is that how Vorpx is? or is there a way to set it so that as soon as my head rotates the camera rotates?

RalfKeymasterDid you run the Direct VR scanner after entering the actual gameworld to adjust field of view and head tracking?
Direct VR games (incl. Skyrim) are the ones that work best. Current games with Direct VR support are: Fallout 4, Skyrim, Skyrim Special Edition, Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, Borderlands 2, Bishock (original), Bioshock 2 (original), Bioshock Infinite, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Black Mesa Source. More to come shortly.
For further Skyrim hints please check this recent Reddit thread:

Michelangel0ParticipantIf you ask me, then I say that the immersion that the world of a Skyrim or Bioshock provides in VR outweighs any potential technical glitch by an order of magnitude.
Well, using your words, I´m afraid of those glitches breaking the previous immersion. It is useless to have Skyrim in VR if I have to suffer issues with headtracking or other problems constantly. It kills the immersion completely.
Instead of thinking inside the game..I would end up thinking about the glitches.
Just be aware that vorpX applies VR to games that were never ever meant to be played in 3D, let alone in VR, and that that can imply some technical compromises. Whether that is OK for you or not, only you can decide
Actually I cannot decide.
I have to BUY it (40U$D) just to see how it works. There is no TRIAL or DEMO version. Videos on youtube are clearly not enough, and I´m not sure about possible issues. so…
That is something that makes me doubt of buying, if the software is good, then a way to test or refund should be available to let users DECIDE.

RalfKeymasterYou can play Direct VR games perfectly fine. And also others that don’t have Direct VR with some more effort. Direct VR directly manipulates a game’s memory addresses. There is always a certain chance that something goes wrong with that. It’s generally considered a very good thing by most.
If you ask me, then I say that the immersion that the world of a Skyrim or Bioshock provides in VR outweighs any potential technical glitch by an order of magnitude. But if you are more the kind of guy who tends to look mostly at the technical side instead of the actual games, you may just as well prefer, let’s say, Space Pirate Trainer or Job Simulator over a game like Skyrim in VR. Not that I would really understand that, but some apparently come to that conclusion.

Michelangel0ParticipantBut in this other thread:
https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/direct-vr-issues-bioshock-17-1-3/
You are stating that: ¨There always is a certain risk of crashes with Direct VR, which writes directly into a game’s memory.¨
And the game doesn´t work sometimesSo it really seems that even the new Direct VR mode is actually not properly stable.
This is my question…is there ANY GAME that works correctly in 3d with VORPX and that can be played from start to end?
Please be honest….Also, VORPx has no demo or a way to test before buying.
Do I have a way to refund if it doesn´t work properly???Jan 29, 2017 at 11:50am #125454
RalfKeymasterFirst you should always be aware that vorpX applies VR functionality to games that were never meant to be played in VR. So depending on how you define 100%, either only a few may work without issues or most.
If you are searching for the games that work best, the ones with the new Direct VR feature, which provides automatic 1:1 head tracking and FOV adjustment, are clearly closest to a native experience. Others will require more tweaking. Currently this includes (more to come shortly):
Fallout 4, Skyrim, Skyrim Special Edition, Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, Borderlands 2, Bishock (original), Bioshock 2 (original), Bioshock Infinite, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Black Mesa Source.

TroutVRParticipantI think if a functionality is clearly labeled as “experimental” nobody should complain if it doesn’t work in their setup.
…some of it comes from “room-scale nazis” with superiority complex. Those people will always complain about something, there is no reason to worry about them when deciding on a functionality to include.
Wow. This thread is just a simple feature request backed up with logical reasons (both comfort and control) and a report about some bugs in Bioshock. The two room scale request both complemented on how we like vorpx. CHILL
Both major headsets are room scale. Is it crazy to think Vorpx would want to support it being more comfortable to play that way? Especially such a small change like letting us flip the default icons on the right pad?
I think you are very incorrect that labeling something experimental means don’t complain. I would suggest it means “HEY, this might be buggy, and don’t get ANGRY if something breaks…but it would help a lot if you have any issues or suggestions report them to the support forum so we can fix them”.
Forums are here for feature requests and bug reports, the nazi like thing would be someone coming in here telling us not to do that…

RalfKeymasterDid you try to create a custom profile in the config app?
If Wikipedia is right, the games are based on Unreal Engine 3. For UE3 games there usually is a good chance that you can create a custom profile with working 3D based on either another UE3 engine game or the Unreal Engine 3 profile. If the games use DX11, the Bioshock Infinite profile is worth a shot.

RalfKeymasterSo far it’s only Bioshock Infinite that seems to cause more trouble than one would expect. Noone is an idiot, that’s just how the world is. If there is some kind of functionality and it doesn’t work 100% as people expect, there will be always someone who considers it faulty regardless how many warnings you show. Not having a feature can be better than having a feature that ‘only’ works 90% of the time. An ages old programmer’s rule.
That’s the main reason why something like Direct VR wasn’t available long ago in vorpX and instead it has the Game Settings Optimizer. I always was fully aware of the potential issues that come with this and just recently decided it’s still worth a try because I found a way to sufficiently address the most severe problems with memory hacks like being dependent on a game’s version and similar things.

andybakParticipantPlease don’t remove any Direct VR profiles. There’s so few as it is.
Could you instead have “stable” and “experimental” tags? Sometimes I don’t care if a game isn’t playable for hours – I just want to dip into it’s world and experience it in VR. I’ve don’t recall having a crash in Bioshock Infinite and would be very sad to have it removed from my Direct VR roster.

TiggerdyretParticipantThesugi:
firstly, it’s hard to promise that what you want will definitively work, but there is a very big chance that it will. Mirro’s Edge should work, but The Witcher 2 doesn’t have G3D, which is the true 3D mode. Here is a list of games that have been confirmed to work by the community: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nD_HyS8v_zKf9MZ3OYVpdnKAJBeMycGTgFmaJ639Oyg/edit#gid=0
Secondly, Vorpx is not hard to setup, but will require patients in some cases and could take a long time to get right. But it depends and it’s getting easier and easier with each update. Some games like HL2, Portal 1-2, Skyrim, bioshock 1-inf and a few more even have Direct VR mode, which makes it work perfectly with a simple scan. But you can always play any game in cinema or desktop mode without much hassle.Jan 21, 2017 at 9:36am #125125In reply to: Latest Direct VR Update Suggestions
RalfKeymasterThere is always a certain risk of crashes if one writes directly into a game’s memory addresses, hence the warning in this regard that is shown during each Direct VR scan. Since Bioshock Infinite seems to be affected on quite a few machines, I will look into it. If there is a fix, it will be fixed, otherwise the Direct VR portion of the profile will be removed.

MrbubblesParticipantHi stianrin
Managed to start in -dx9 mode (by adding it in to the steam launch command below), but it wasnt that simple….
“Set Launch Options
Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
Under the General tab click the Set launch options… button.
Enter the launch options you wish to apply (be sure to separate each code with a space) and click OK.
Close the game’s Properties window and launch the game”I then had to create a vorpx short cut by right click on the vorpx tray icon etc..
to run the game from the shortcut i then had to turn the watcher off in the vorpx tray icon (it didnt work from my normal bioshock shortcut just with -dx9)then the game opened in a low res which looked poor, so then selected window mode, no dx10 detail, vert sync off, and then changed resolution. (if i changed res in non window mode it crashed)
From memory it crashed a couple of times during making all these changes and crashed last night but i restarted by running steamvr and checking its “ready” before going through vorpx and the shortcut.
Im not completely sure which bits have got it working but its playing well like this now!
hope this helps
