increase or change resolution in desktop or in vorpx??

Change the resolution in the game, either in the game’s settings, or by editing the associated .ini file.

Thanks for the tip on using Nvidia AA, I’ll give that a try. I ended up turning off the in game AA Skyrim/fallout as they just make the image look more blurry in VR… Although trees and fences suffer without the AA, it’s still better overall.

hopefully the nvidia forced AA will be the solution!

    Hi all,

Been a while since I’ve been posting. Been doing more playing than talking for a change.

Some may remember a few months back, I did a post/series of posts on Skyrim and the Titan XP. My system consisted of the Titan, a 4790k clocked to 4.8ghz and 2400 mhz ram fed by SSD’s in Raid0 and I was able to mod Oldrim pretty extensively and get playable performance at high resolutions.

Finally I have been able to upgrade to a Kaby Lake 7700K which I have clocked to 5ghz on a Z170 Maximus with the normal bios upgrade (for Kaby) and am running 4266mhz TridentZ ram. Although I haven’t spent time getting hard numbers, I wanted to pass on some of my experiences and conclusions thus far.

First of all, there has been a metric ton of blather about Kaby and how it’s just a higher clocked Skylake. And that is true. However, what all the tech guys seemed to have missed out on is that Kaby’s memory controller can handle some seriously stupid fast ram. And guess what benefits VR/VorpX better than anything I have yet found? Fast ram.

I noticed a significant boost to performance running Skyrim under VorpX back when I did the Titan posts, moving from 1600/1866 DDR3 to 2400Mhz DDR3. Outside of VR, the increase holds as well and Digital Foundry and others verified that open world games like Fallout/Witcher/Skyrim/GTA do in fact see serious benefit that scales as speed goes up. The old wisdom no longer applies at least in open world games. Those textures moving in and out benefit from faster ram speed.

Since going to my new setup, I have been able to shut off fluid sync and no longer have stutter/’flashback’ issues when doing it at 1920×1440 and 1.4 SS. Framerates stay mostly above 45 with a 100 mod loadout and gameplay is smooth. This was impossible before.

So basically, I just wanted to let you all know that yes, faster ram is a good thing. Run the fastest your CPU/motherboard can handle and you WILL have a more enjoyable experience. Oh…and the added 200 mhz on the clock is nothing to sneeze at either and only benefits the process as Sky/Fallout are CPU bound and clock sensitive games to begin with.

    Skyrim SE???
Not sure if you set it already but if not try it with 1920×1440 resolution set manually in Skyrim.prefs and set the Fov 110 110 in game using the console.

This was the main reason to buy it and works really good.

I have adjusted the size of everything a little 😛

Also, do you see any performance loss while playing more than…let´s say an hour?

I’m also impressed with the head tracking with the new DirectVR implementation. My only problem is that the FOV scan always fails, and when I try to set a FOV of 110 in the console the view initially changes, but when I close the console the FOV goes back to what it was before…

So far it’s a huge improvement though, this, FAllout 4 and Bioshock Infinite are a joy to play in VR now. Just not sure why I can’t get the original Bioshock Remastered edition working…

I managed to finally get Vorpx working with ReShade. I tested it with Fallout 4, but in Geometry mode whilst having ReShade injected the right eye goes black, this could look incredible with ReShade, but another bump in the road, any idea why it would make the right eye view go blank?

    Regards

    how?

    What Reshade dll? DX9? Dx11?

Hello I have a problem with fallout4 in DirectVR mode.
DirectVR works perfectly on skyrim with mod
and NewVegas with mod but when I try on fallout4
without any mod and vanillia ini file I encounter the following problem

The screen freeze when launching the Rotation scan
And the PC no longer responds for 5 to 10 minutes
if I do a CtrlAltSupp I see that several
windows process uses 100% disk and the scan is unresponsive

    system (ntoskrnl.exe)
    com surrgate (dllhost.exe)
    processus hôte de service (svchost.exe)
    antimalware service executable (MsMpEng.exe)
    runtime broker (RuntimeBroker.exe)

I have blocked several windows processes
and this disk usage problem only occurs in
Fallout4 during the scan, I no longer experience this problem at startup
because it is a common problem on windows 10

I updated the profile by downloading from the cloud

Here is the list of exceptions I added to windows defender
    So it does not scan:

    Files and folder :
    Animation Labs\VorpX (folder)
    Animation Labs\vorpxConfig.exe
    Animation Labs\vorpxControl.exe
    Animation Labs\vorpxControl64.dat
    Animation Labs\vorpxDesktop.exe
    steamapps\common\Fallout 4 (folder)
    ProgramFiles (x86)\Windows Defender (folder)
    Program Files\Windows Defender (folder)
    Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe
    ProgramData\Animation Labs\vorpX (folder)

    Process:
    vorpxControl
    vorpxControl.exe
    vorpxControl64
    vorpxControl64.dat
    vorpx
    vorpX VR Driver Control
vorpX VR Driver Control (32 bits)
    vorpXscan64
    vorpXscan64.exe

I also tried without windows defender by installing
    Avast but nothing change.

with the many test I did with different savegame
and in different cell the worst is that it succeeded only once
the scan rotation and fov was ok and i was able to enjoy the game in DirectVR
but since then it’s always the same problem that forces me
sometimes to force reboot if the CtrlAltSupp does not work.

I don’t know what to try next
then if you have an idea I thank you in advance.

Sorry english is not my first language.
I use FallOut4 In French could it be the problem ?
I notice during the problem that the notification icon
for the volume was on mute and came back normal when i quit fallout.

I used profile from Alien Isolation. No good, flickers. FOV was limited. It had geometry turned on, but didn’t appear immersive. Not like in Fallout 4, which is incredible. I wonder if FOV hack (cheat engine) works, but then you’d have the flickering.

The link below explains how to do it manually if the launcher options don’t work for some reason:

Just like you normally would when you play a game on your monitor. In Fallout 4 that is done in the Fallout 4 launcher. It often makes sense to run games windowed with vorpX, which will allow resolutions higher than your monitor supports in many games.

If you encounter problems with the DirectVR FOV scan failing in Fallout 4, please update your Fallout 4 profile by downloading the latest “Fallout 4 [vorpX]” profile from the cloud in the vorpX config app.

Yesterday’s Fallout 4 update broke the FOV portion of the Direct VR scan, the updated profile addresses that.

You can run games at any resolution you want with vorpX. The higher, the better the image quality. Recommendations are: 1280×1024 (performance), 1600×1200 (balanced), 1920×1440 (quality). 4:3/5:4 resolutions are generally best for vorpX, not widescreen.

Please also make sure to update the Fallout 4 profile from the cloud. Yesterdays Fallout 4 update broke the Direct VR scanner, which you can address by downloading the latest version of the “Fallout 4 [vorpX]” profile from the cloud.

You may also consider to set Antialising to “Off” in the Fallout 4 launcher. Both AA modes used by Fallout 4 blur the image.

    Hello,
I’ve followed along this guide http://riftinfo.com/how-to-setup-vorpx-and-oculus-rift-for-fallout-4-perfectly to setup my fallout 4, however, the quality is really bad. I have a powerful PC so that shouldnt be the issue. The resulution is low and the quality is bad overall

This should have been an answer to your Fallout 4 thread I guess? The resolution is of no concern for Direct VR. If you play with Geometry 3D you have the normal positional tracking available. So with rotation and FOV you are perfectly fine. Those are the most important ones. Positional Direct VR is the icing on the cake.

There always is a certain chance of failure, for more details on that please check the hint text that is shown during each scan. The next vorpX version will have changes regarding FO4 Direct VR too, with some luck that will help with your position issue.

I don’t have any mods (I deleted everything minus saves… including ini files… reinstalled… started… quit… Ran Game Settings Optimizer for fallout 4. Tried again.

This time, I started from scratch (previously I was running a new game that was just out of the vault… I started over).

I got the first two working, but not the last one (positional I believe). Ran through the vault. Got outside and tried again (still only the first two worked). Saved… Loaded… and now only the first two are working again :(

Also, I’m still only getting the Aspect Ratio when launching for 16:9 in the graphic adapter settings. I’m guessing this is part of the problem. The dropdown itself is grayed out. I also don’t have an option to select all available resolutions like in Skyrim.

If I start in windowed mode, I get 16:10 also, but still no 4:3.

Should I be modifying the ini file for the resolution and trying again?

    Thanks
    Drake
