So fallout 4 looks fine for me (It’s a bethesda game so similar enough)- don’t mind the start of the video I was having unrelated issues as well as the sound not recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrQ2InamTJI

My settings for this game are 1280×1440 in a borderless window screen. I recommend playing around with the FOV, mine is actually set to 135. Also make sure to turn off all blur types.

If everything else fails, try some mods?

So i spent probably about 20-30 hours trying to make vorpx the experience I want. I’ve tried 3 different games (life is strange, portal and fallout 4) and I can’t say any of them worked well. I have a HTC vive for the record.

The main issue, and the one that kills the First person experience and any sense of immersion, is the fish eye effect that I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get rid of. And it is really bad in fallout 4, the funny thing is it doesn’t happen when i move the camera with my mouse, only with my head. I’ve tried various resolutions suggested in threads here on the forum, I’ve tried multiple FOV settings, I’ve tried with and without geometry mode (without lessens it but doesn’t remove it completely), I’ve tinkered with pretty much all the settings the app has to offer (I knew it was a complicated app to get into before I bought it and that it’d require a lot of tinkering to get things working well) but I can’t seem to solve this issue.

Is this solvable, if so any concrete tips would be appreciated.

Also, have anyone found any games where you have at least some decent sense of presence, because even when I got things working fairly well I never actually felt like I was THERE the way you do in native vive games. Of course I knew this was likely the case before buying it but im curious if anyone has gotten any game to work THAT well with vorpx that you actually felt you were in the world.

I found a fix for the buggy shadow, that appears around near objects in Geometry 3D
    (looks like black Z-3D artifacts).

    You have to turn

    bComputeShaderDeferredTiledLighting=1
    to
    bComputeShaderDeferredTiledLighting=0

    and the shadow is fixed.

Switching off head tracking in EdgePeek mode introduces an issue where you regularly end up looking in a different direction in reality than in the game after leaving EdgePeek mode if you look around while it’s enabled. Especially in regard to the up/down axis this is very disorienting. An idea how to potentially avoid that is on the experiments list for a long time, so this *might* get adresses eventually, but no promises. Apart from that: in the future there will be more games that have Direct Head Tracking like Fallout 4. In these cases this will be avoidable.

There are two different frame rates because two different rendering processes are happening in parallel: the game itself and a second render thread that pushes the image to the headset.

Ideally both should show 90fps, but that will seldomly be possible with more demanding games. Primarily you should make sure that the game frame rate stays above 50fps for smooth gameplay. If that is the case, the direct mode frame rate usually also is OK automatically.

In Skyrim you will need to switch to Z-Buffer 3D and/or lower the game’s graphics settings for a significantly better frame rate. If you are prone to motion sickness, *always* prefer a high frame rate over image quality. Always!

    Hi,

I create this post to give my 5 cents regarding my own experience with Vorpx and Comodo.

The main issue was related to all games execution 64 bits processes, and Vorpx would not hook these games. (Fallout 4, GTA V, …)

in fact, In Comodo, there are several modules :
    – antivirus, defense+, firewall, file evaluation.

Regarding Vorpx, you run Vorpcontrol.exe (named Start Vorpx shortcut on your desktop), but it also launch Vorpcontrol64.dat (you see it in task manager).
These 2 executables target 32bits and 64bits games.

But one module in Comodo prevents vorpcontrol64.dat to be launched, this prevents the ability to Vorpx to detect you launched a 64 bits game (F4, GTAV,…)
If it is the case, you would not see vorpcontrol64.dat in task manager, and you will see application crash regarding vorpcontrol64.dat 0x000005 in your eventlog application (run eventvwr in windows).

This module is located in Defense+ in Comodo. In defense+ menu, you will see HIPS parameters, and in this configuration page, you can deactivate/activate HIPS, but you need to know that all others options below are not related to HIPS (that s why disabling HIPS keep crashing our Vorpcontrol64.dat).

And it is here : the last option is named “Detect shellcode injections”. and you can add exceptions.
you have to act here : add all Vorpx executables to this exclusion list.

Enjoy now the ability to keep your prefered security software and your prefered 3d wrapper :)

By default, because VorpX uses head-tracking to control where you’re looking by generating virtual mouse movements, it also has to emulate the controller – I think Fallout 4, like many games, doesn’t allow simultaneous mouse and conroller input.

However, there is an experimental feature in VorpX for Fallout 4 only which gets round this. Call up the Vorpx in-game menu (default key is ‘Delete’), use the left/right arrow keys to get to the head-tracking menu, then down arrow to ‘Start direct tracking scan’ and enter. After a pause and a hitch in your view it’ll suddenly rotate your character. Ten you’ll probably find head-tracking is more accurate, and also that the controller works as intended.

I’m using an HTC Vive and I was able to get Fallout 4 to run and tried the original Doom game, which isn’t listed as a supported game but still worked. But I cannot get Black Mesa to work. I tried to search the web and these forums but couldn’t get any information. The game runs normally when I launch it so I assume that vorpX isn’t injecting any files in the game. Does it simply not work at all and I should stop wasting my time trying, or is there a solution? Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi,

unfortunately, I am not able anymore to play fallout 4 using vorpX since steam patched F4 the 27th june …

Vorpx runs fine with other applications/game, but seems not detecting at all Fallout 4.

I use an oculus rift on my side, on windows 10.
    My current version of fallout4.exe : 1.5.416

Is someone, can test F4 since last patch of 06-27 and can give a feedback to me ?

    thanks,

    Ld

    Hi guys,
I’m new to Vorpx but I have been able to get Vorpx working on Fallout 4. My issue is that when I play the game without vorpx the controller prompts are there, i.e. press ‘A’ to Jump. Also when talking to NPC’s I can select A, B, X, Y dialog options with no problem. If I play Fallout 4 in Vorpx I don’t see the controller prompts but I see keyboard and mouse prompts instead. Also when talking to NPC’s my right anolog stick becomes a mouse???
I.m not sure what to do to get this to work properly but any help would be welcome.

    Thanks.

    My setup:
    CV1 Oculus Rift
    Controller: wireless Xbox One Gamepad.

    Hi,

I’m having trouble getting vorpx to work on my DK2.

If I enable head tracking, the screen rotates wildly and out of control on my headset. This happens in the desktop viewer and in all the games I’ve tried (GTA V and Fallout 4).

This doesn’t happen in the health warning, in the oculus store or in native oculus games.

Here’s a video where I am turning head tracking on and off from inside the desktop viewer:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLjLYLlDEKY

My oculus software version is 1.5.0.240083 (1.5.0.241049).

Trying to improve the image quality on Fallout 4 (even at fairly short distances it was a blurry mess), I set VorpX to geometry rendering and boosted resolution to 1680×1200. I also disabled the in-game antialiasing.

While the image was much sharper, foliage and dead scrub became a flickering, shimmering blur that was very unpleasant. I tried turning on MSAA in Nvidia control panel, but this seemed to have no effect.

To avoid too many hours re-inventing the wheel, does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep the image clear while avoiding unwanted aliasing? My game framerates fell to about 40, which I know is too low, but I’m hoping if I can figure out how to balance sharpness and antialiasing then I’ve got a point to start balancing overall image quality and framerate.

    Many thanks.

Fallout 4 seems to be okay now without running Vorpx. The hud is back in position and I can properly move the cursor about. The only problem is that it’s still broken if I run Vorpx.

I cannot play Amnesia Dark Descent at all. Both eyes get flashing flickering of the game and the frame rates is so low it would be less than 1 frame per second. Im running win 10 64 bit. AMD fx-8350 Black edition and an R9 390x video card. Quake 2 does the exact same thing. I have tried many settings to no avail. Games like Skyrim and fallout 4 run just fine. It seems to be a possible issue with Open GL not really sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys just because I have not seen what the actual solution to this is. The bad screen flickering in geometry mode. It happens for me when I am all the way down on graphics. I cannot figure out what is causing it. Is it my set up alone?

    6600k i5
gtx 970 (want to sli soon, in a week or so, but only one right now)
    16gb viper ram

Geometry is so much more convincing and it just wasn’t happening during the intro but once emerging from the vault flickers all day everyday every second
