Ralf, I think I may have figured it out. Stupidest fix ever. I was holding the hmd up to my face, and my face wasn’t close enough to activate the proximity sensor. I found that when I pushed my face in closer, the game would magically flicker on. Lol, I feel dumb.

Even with that, before I had the hmd strapped to my head when I tried fallout4. I dunno, things seem to be working now, after that one kind of obvious fix. I didn’t even think of it, because steamVR doesn’t do that.

Playing fallout 4 and it looks zoomed it. Used game optimizer and checked the ini file and it says FOV 120. Tried a bunch of voprx settings but can not get it to no look zoomed in. Also when playing the screen is flicking black allot (Does not happen in Theater mode)

Here’s the debug report. It’s trying to launch but doesn’t quite make it.
I tried a second time and did not get an error; but there was no picture, only sound. Main screen was black, Vive was grey.
Note that I had disabled the Oculus runtime, since it was also launching along with steamvr and that didn’t work out.

Yep amazing job Ralph.. I don’t know why you aren’t exec vp of Vive or Occulus. You have done more in my opinion to make Vr successful by making aaa rated games playable than anyone else has done with a million demos. Demos are fun for a while but you can only try so many demos!

Anyway I have tried Grand Theft Auto, Skyrim and Fallout 4.. All work perfectly in the short time I was testing.

I’d pay twice what you are charging for VR in those three games alone.

When ‘override xbox controller’ is set to ‘full’ the player character (in, say, Fallout4) will periodically lunge to the left without input from the pad or keyboard. Can’t find a reason…

I’ve also been trying to disable the player character from moving in the direction I’m looking. If I’m moving forward and look to the side, the player character will veer off in the direction I’m looking. I’d like to restrict movement direction to the pad and have head-tracking just to look around (as in life). I suppose this is due to head-tracking emulating the behaviour of the mouse, but if anyone has found a way I’d be interested.

I bought the VorpX software before the Vive support was even listed, assuming VR was VR, little did i know… but glad to see official support coming, I have only one complaint with the vive, the games are all EXPENSIVE demos.

I have bought and played a ton of them, and I have to say, if anything kills VR its the lackluster sub-par “pre-alpha” demos for sale at retail prices.

Ralf might be the savior for VR, at least for me… I cannot WAIT to play some actual AAA titles in VR.

Speaking of which, do you have an ETA for when you might first introduce Vive support?

List of games in my personal order of worth the money:

*.) Minecraft (minecrift-Vive) EPIC levels of fun! but no 1.9 support….
1.) Final Approach – Super Fun and interesting use of VR(full game)
2.) Budget cuts (demo) – Wicked fun, but a demo
3.) Space pirate trainer – Wicked fun (sold as full game, but its Pre-alpha)
4.) Vanishing Realms – Really Fun (Chapter 1 of X)
5.) Job Simulator – Really Fun first time through (kind of 4 demos)
6.) The Lab – fun (Demo Pack)
7.) Windlands – Oddly fun (only a short way into it)
    8.) TheBlu – not really worth the $10 but i kept it – (3 Short Demo’s)
9.) Fantastic Contraption – mediocre (came with my HMD)
10.) Cloudlands VR Golf (refunded) Terrible music, hard to see where you need to teleport to, and the courses are odd
11.) Call of the star seed The Gallery – (refunded) REALLY short, not that fun, not optimized, odd glitches and $30 (2hours of gameplay) for the first chapter of the game!!!!!!!!!!!
12.) Descent underground (refunded) – Runs like crap on my 4.8Ghz 980Ti-SLI PC, Multiplayer or Bots only, head movement locked to monitor refresh rate, almost made me vomit.

Anyone try the out of ammo, elite dangerous, Luca, or 5089?

I completely agree with everything you said. I was going to cancel my vive preorder until i came across this forum saying vive support was in the works.

I have played 5089, it’s a good game but i ended up returning it. The guns put the vive controller at a 90 degree angle from the barrel, unlike space pirate trainer, which sits at a more natural angle. I didn’t think i could deal with that long term.

Does the cost of Vanishing Realms cover the upcoming chapters? I read it was short, only 2 hours… so i avoided it because it’s so expensive. It does look like the coolest launch title though.

Although, none of this matters now that vorpx supports the vive. I’m reinstalling Fallout 4 now ;-)

Also prefer steam but I am a Vorpx supporter no matter where I have to go to get it. My Vive is up and running on all the eye candy demos. neat but kind of empty. My trusty DK2 hasn’t seen action in a few weeks. hard to go back to its much more noticeable screen door now.

Cant wait to try a real AAA game like Fallout 4 in VIVe w geometry mode and back to finishing Skyrim in all its mod glory for 2nd time w Vorpx.

Please don’t use the VorpX Destop Viewer for this troubleshooting… it’ll only confuse things. We’re looking to click ‘Play’ from the Fallout4 launcher on the Desktop and for the game to start in the Rift.

    A few things to try…

    (1) Update VorpX by running your vorpX_WebSetup.exe again.

    (2) From the Fallout4 launcher, under ‘Options’ and ‘Mode’ choose ‘Windowed’, and Aspect Ratio to ‘Standard’, Resolution ‘800×600’. Let’s give it every chance to work.

    (3) (a) Right-click the VorpX icon and ‘Configfure VorpX’. Under ‘General’ and ‘Device Selection’ it should say ‘Oculus Rift’. (b) Under ‘Excluded Programs’ you should see ‘FalloutLauncher.exe’ but not ‘Fallout4.exe’. (c) Under ‘Local Profiles’ and ‘Fallout4’ make sure ‘Assigned Programs’ shows ‘Fallout4.exe’

    (4) Remove any mods or other 3rd party add-ons to Fallout4 that you may be running.

The loading screen (and everything else) is on the desktop. When I play a game, the Oculus rift CV1 does not change anything. So, if I try to play Fallout 4, nothing changes, if I try to play Borderlands 2, nothing changes.

Sorry about this, wish it just worked like most people :( (in NO FAULT of yours or the creators)

After selecting ‘Play’ from the Fallout4 launcher on the monitor (brought up by selecting ‘Play’ from Steam Fallout4 entry) the Rift should change to the white introduction scene (with the Health and Safety warning where you have to gaze at the bottom text or press ‘A’ on the controller).

You load your save from the Rift, not the desktop, as VorpX is pushing everything to the Rift by this point. If you’re loading the save from the desktop then it’s not working.

So, when you say that you click play from the launcher and see the loading screen, is the loading screen on the monitor or the Rift?

Also, I just tried: Shutting down the Oculus home AFTER fallout is started, but the rift just shows blank, and then Oculus home starts again. Then I tried Starting Fallout 4, and then starting vorpX desktop viewer, and I can see my desktop, but as soon as I try to alt tab into Fallout 4…It crashes. Or at least it shows the loading symbol. I’ve only waited about 5 seconds after seeing that symbol. Does it take longer than that for it to load? And for both of those tests, I ONLY had Google chrome, Steam, vorpX, and Oculus running. I killed all the others ones.

Wass able to try it real quick, and nothing. I restarted my computer, and turned on the CV1, and then oculus home. From there I could go and play Lucky’s tale, etc, etc. I then started VorpX from the Start vorpX shortcut that was created during my instal. Then I ran steam, and then I started fallout 4. Looking back and forth from the rift to my monitor, nothing changed in the rift. I closed fallout after I started loading the save, as I’m assuming it should have taken over after I started the game. I turned off the windows anti-virus, my anti-virus, and anything else I didn’t need to run those 3 programs. The only programs I had running (in the notification bar at least) were Teamviewer, Everything (Search engine), Realtek audio manager, and Logitech gaming software (for my mouse). You want me to send you my log files or such? Also, Fallout 4 has to run through the Bethesda launcher, would that affect anything? I start fallout, the launcher opens, then I click play. I see the loading screen then the options menu (load save, options, etc, etc)

    Thanks!

If you’re running apps in the Rift from Oculus Home (Lucky’s Tale, JauntVR, etc) then you’ve got the Oculus Runtime installed. Oculus Home is just a front-end for the Oculus Store, but requires the Runtime to work just like VorpX. So if you can run Lucky’s Tale then you’re in a good position to run VorpX.

So; with Oculus Home running on your monitor (showing ‘Store’ and ‘Library’ in the top left) and in the Rift (with ‘Welcome to Oculus Home’ heading) you can then run VorpX… when it’s running there is an icon in the taskbar notification panel (don’t run the VorpX Desktop Viewer).

You might want to right-click the VorpX icon and ‘Configure VorpX’ to use the ‘Game Setting Optimizer’ for whichever title you’re about to play (Fallout4!).

I’ll assume you’re using the Steam version of Fallout4 and that the game runs well without VorpX. Make sure Steam is also running.

We’ve got : (1) Oculus Runtime (Home), (2) VorpX, (3) Steam all running, so click ‘Play’ from the Steam games list entry for Fallout4. Ideally, you should now be running Fallout4 in the Rift.

If you can’t see anything in the Rift then click the middle mouse button to get into edge-peek mode, Alt+Space on the keyboard to recentre the Rift view, the press ‘Delete’ to fine-tune the experience.

Let me know which part of the process didn’t work, and we’ll take it from there.

Please confirm : are you using an Oculus DK1, DK2 or CV1?

Are you using Oculus Runtime v0.x or v1.3.x?

Can you see the Demo Scene (if using Runtime v0.x) or the Oculus Store (v1.3.x) from your HMD?

Are you using VorpX v0.9.1 or v16.1.2?

Are you able to get anything running correctly in the Rift other than Fallout4 (with or without VorpX)?
