vorpX will support games such as Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, STALKER and System Shock 2. Those games usually can have lots of mods to enhance the experience, add content or fix bugs. Does those affect the driver in any way?

That’s one of the reasons (but not the only one) why vorpX has two differnt modes to create the 3d effect. See the latest blog post for details: http://www.vorpx.com/more-headtracking-z-buffer-vs-geometry-3d

The Vireio Driver suffers from this annoying problem, shadows and/or reflections are screwed up when rolling the head in most games, and you have to disable them or disable rolling to have a good experience.

Does your driver suffers from the same problem?

    To quote the FAQ: :)

“Additionally to ‘making games 3d’ vorpX offers various features to tackle many of the issues that arise when playing games on the Rift that are not designed for it.”

    All,

One concern I have with this software is the Steam VAC and Punkbuster protection mechanisms built into online games.  With using this driver are we confined to local, single player games (oh I sure hope to god not)?  Has this been tested in multiplayer games?  Are the anti-cheat systems aware of VorpX and have the details been worked out so that players are not blacklisted for using this driver online?

If this driver will work online without the worry of blacklist detection then we are good to go, but I would really stress that the VAC and Punkbuster systems need to know about this prior to going live with it.

Major buzzkill to get this driver only to find out your account has been blacklisted due to the driver being used online.

Anyone have thoughts on this or feedback?

The basic principle is the same in vorpX. The shader vorpX uses is more complex though and also has at least one extra feature that enhances image quality. It’s also possible (and recommended) to use slightly higher resolutions in conjunction with GPU-downsampling. That helps a LOT image quality wise.

Hey, great job on doing this VorpX, I don’t want you to think that I am ungrateful, but please, the shipping has started, people started getting their headsets. The hype is up.

Now can’t you release a demo of your driver so we know that it is the real thing? One game wouldn’t hurt!

Something like Portal! (Why you should take Portal is because Valve will eventually make support for all their Source engine games) Anyhow, imagine showing your friends the Oculus and Portal for the first time. They would totally freak out!

And it’s fine if you don’t release something, but I think showing people that your driver indeed works will probably give you a few more donations and costumers later on.

    Keep up the good work!

looks like Oculus is toying around with this concept for the consumer version anyway.

    Hey Ralf,

I was wondering if you have both a 7″ and a 5.6″ DIY Rift of your own, and how you think the 7″ compares to the 5.6″. It seemed like a lot of people loved the 5.6″ and many seemed to feel compelled to comment on the resolution of the 7″ shipping model. Also, have you had the chance to build a high resolution DIY HMD, and how does that compare?

You are right! Two things at the same time does not …
I suggest you temporarily leave the forum! Make an announcement, and walk away with his head in to work on VorpX. Sure! Mind no one will!
Unsubscribe when they make a report.

Not sure exactly how much I informed my thought …
Shorter! Work, and focused on us. Who does not hurt!

I would say: Do not be distracted by us! We do not take offense.

Ralf! You can add a zoom function VorpX subtitles and HUD? I understand that I want too much … But in Russia, where I write to you, in some games only translate subtitles. I think this is true of many countries where English is not the native language …
Video, which clearly shows that HUD and subtitles will be a problem:

Although to be honest, I expected it would be much worse :-)

Yes, the headtracking does what the mouse normally does, plus special treatment for the roll axis. In most games that means head and body turning are handled the same way, with the exception of some racing games and flightsims that have a dedicated mouselook. Feels a little bit strange at first, but you get used to it pretty quick. Even Carmack did it this way in his Doom 3 demos.

Could you imagine this? this is the perfect VR experience

It’s nor perfect, there isn’t a cockpit view. It is, however, an amazing game. racing games in general I’m hyped for – the perfect thing to go with my awesome new wheel

of course there’s a cockpit view. On xbox you just need to press Y to get the view from inside just as if you were in the car.
