In reply to: VLC not attaching
SobileParticipantEvery player is installed, no portable versions at all. VLC is using OpenGL (Tried both OpenGL and OpenGL for Windows) and MPC-HC is using Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter). Tried restoring pre-VorpX settings too. But the problem remains.

RalfKeymasterPlease make sure that you use installed versions of both players, vorpX can’t change the player settings if you portable versions.
If you use portable versions or vorpX’s auto settings fail for some other resons, you might be able to get the profiles working by selecting the right output type manually.
for VLC that would be OpenGL, for MPC-HC ‘Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter)’

RalfKeymasterI read all messages on the forum. If you don’t get a reply, then there isn’t really any useful answer to a question. I answer what I can.
Providing support for videos that are not encoded with proper rotation is out vorpX’s scope unfortunately. vorpX is mainly meant to play games in your headset, the video player support is pretty much a free add-on. Maybe there is some dedicated VR video player that allows to do that, although personally I’m not aware of one.
What *might* work is using the vorpX desktop viewer instead of the dedicated MPC-HC profile. To do that launch the desktop viewer and then disable the vorpX watcher from the tray icon’s right click menu before launching MPC-HC.

RJK_ParticipantNot shure if i can be a help here.
MPC-HC and VLC, both players show SBS Video and Image material in Stereoscopic 3D with VorpX in any Headset that VorpX supports. Another Free player that you can try is Whirligig (doesnt require vorpx).
IIRC i tried the austrian player before with vorpx but without success.(Didnt try any futher because it kept loosing settings which was very annoiing)
Some other software that i reported abou earlier:vorpx.com/forums/topic/gun/page/7/#post-174546

MinabeParticipantIf a player is already for hmds you shouldn’t even need vorpX to use it, other than that, if you don’t like VLC you should try MPC-HC as vorpX also has a profile for it and is the better player overall.
For a free stereoscopic player, Deo VR is the best one imo.

RalfKeymasterYou can watch 3D movies with vorpX and MPC-HC or VLC, vorpX has dedicated videoplayer profiles for those, but vorpX cannot convert 2D movies into 3D movies. That is limited to games.

MinabeParticipantIf we’re naming extra “hidden” features, apart from the Desktop Viewer (one of the best in the market) you also get to use MPC-HC and VLC as 3D players, making them the best 3D players available.

MinabeParticipantAs TheBalt said, vorpX can hook to any .exe, so it can also hook to media players, the officially supported are VLC and MPC-HC, making them the best 3D players currently available in the internet imo.

RalfKeymasterMPC-HC is better quality wise, that comes at price though. In MPC-HC vorpX grabs the image before the player processes it. That has numerous advantages, but also means subtitles aren’t shown in vorpX.
In VLC the image gets grabbed when it is sent to the monitor, after the player processed it, so you get full subtitle support.
So in general MPC-HC is the better choice for vorpX, but if you want subtitles, VLC is the way to go.

RalfKeymasterIf you want to watch Youtube in your web browser, you can use the vorpX desktop viewer (Windows 8+). Alternatively The Oculus software also has a desktop viewer built in, probably also Windows 8+.
If you want to watch movies downloaded to your PC, you can do that the same way, use MPC-HC or VLC with vorpX (supports 3D movies) or use one of several dedicated VR video players. You can probably even find some free ones in the Oculus Store.

Michelangel0ParticipantDo not use MPC-HC. Download PotPlayer 64bit this is a more advanced an updated player, it not only supports 3D movies but also it renders subtitles in STEREO correctly to watch 3d movies in VR.

MinabeParticipantPersonally i would recommend DeoVR, has a few nice features and from my tests it’s the faster vr player. Funny enough it seems to also be the one SLR uses (official vr porn video streaming app).
BadoinkVR player (another porn vr player) has somewhat better 3D (not sure if only for their vids) but is slower and has no features at all other than forward/backwards, if you even consider that a feature.
For non vr videos MPC-HC is much better than the ancient VLC.

RalfKeymasterFor watching movies you could try MPC-HC or VLC. vorpX has a profile for both and hooks directly into them like it hooks into games. With some luck your laptop switches to the dedicated GPU with these since they use 3D APIs for rendering. That’s not guarenteed, but worth a shot.
If that doesn’t work, check Steam for dedicated VR video players. Never tried one myself, but there is a variety to choose from, some free, some cost a few bucks.
Jan 25, 2019 at 2:30pm #178808In reply to: New to VorpX looking for information
RalfKeymasterYou can select the stereo mode on the image page of ingame menu. Make sure to use either VLC or MPC-HC and launch them from your normal desktop if launching them from the desktop viewer fails.
vorpX hooks into these players directly, which might be required for the stereo options to appear in the menu. Can’t remember currently.

MinabeParticipantOk, so now i know why Vorpx won’t attach to MPV but i have no MPC-HC profile and there’s none in the cloud… would it make be a difference compared to vr players? That’s mostly why i wanna try’em, have no problem playing 4k 3d videos on a normal player (MPC-BE) using the standard enhanced custom renderer but vr players can’t play them without slowing down (15m bitrate video, 8m bitrate 4k it’s doable) and installing madvr gets me much worst results with the standard configuration (no point in configuring more when normal vr players already work better out of the box), while also using MPC-BE (just changing render to madvr).
Also, madvr is quite old now, is it any good at all anymore?
