I am also getting both of these issues. First off, for me the vorpx settings menu randomly goes into this inaccessible state where when I press the del key, the screen slightly begins to edge peak (just before the menu would normal pop up) and then resets back to gameplay. I press it again and it subtle edge peaks and goes back to the gameplay. I can’t seem to figure out what causes this as it just randomly starts. Mainly after a scene change or as soon as I load my game. Any ideas on how I can fix this other than rebooting VorpX every time it happens?
Secondly, Portal 2 loads, plays the valve portal ominous intro music and then crashes. It gets stuck on the load after the above mentioned intro. Which is weird because it was working decent, I quit out to set up my mouse, and when I came back it wouldn’t load anymore. Like it broke lol. Any ideas of that also? Thanks for everything. :)

Portal 1 makes problems for ~10% of users. Unfortunately the issue is impossible to replicate here.
Dear Esther is very well tested. Shouldn’t cause issues normally. You should check things like resolution, 3D Strength, IPD in case of convergence issues.
Gone home has a *few* broken shadows that aren’t fixable without breaking most of the lighting.
You could switch to Z-Buffer 3D, which does not have any shader glitches by design. Aliens Colonial Marines for example is a game with excellent Z-Buffer 3D.
Portal 1: It freezes for me when you are about to start the game.
Dear Esther: Double screens.
Gone Home: Broken shadows everywhere.
Aliens Colonial Marines: Whith shadows off it works great, even with AA on.
Ok for me it seems to have helped to set the systemsettings to ONLY show the screen in the rift -don’t know why that is. also it crashed again when my AntiVirus Scanner was doing a scan in the background and steam was installing another game so maybe its some problem with CPU usage? Anyway if Mord people still habe problems linke this maybe this helps you too.
@ralf : thanks for the fast reply. Portal 2 works Awesome! really great work alone for that vorpx was worth the price !
Unfortunately there still seems to be an issue for some with Portal 2 that is completely impossible to reproduce here. Not on a single machine. I am aware that this doesn’t help you at all, but in most cases the game works fine.
Since the issue isn’t reproducible here, it’s also not possible to begin searching for a fix.
I’m having this problem with Portal 2, I believe it’s because I installed and tried SteamVR :-/ now I can play it on the Rift just fine if I turn off vorpX, but I want to try with vorpX so I get head tracking. Anyone has an idea how to turn off SteamVR? I find the option in the config for Half Life, but not for Portal 2.
same here, I just bought Vorpx and can’t get Portal 2 running either, it crashes right after the game starts.
Anyone have advice on settings? Other games, like Outlast, work just fine for me with Vorpx, but not this one.
What the title states, vorpx simply wont run at all in game. Im running a q9550 with a gtx 660ti and 12gb ram, so more than sufficient hardware. I’ve tried reinstalling vorpx numerous times with restarting my computer. I’ve disabled all programs that may even have the slightest chance to conflict with it (hooks, antiviruses, etc). I’ve followed everything on the basic troubleshooting. I’ve been testing between 4 games: Portal 2, Skyrim, Dirt 3, and ArmA 3. Not one have showed what apparently is a red vorpx overlay, they just start normally. Hitting DEL does nothing whatsoever…
Now does anyone have any clue to even (bare bones) just starting this?
As far as I see it, I’ve wasted $40 on this garbage…
Hi Cron,
vorpX is devoloped constantly. If you bought it roughly a month ago, it might even be that you don’t have the current version installed. Normally updates are installed automatically, but if the auto update fails for you, you can always use your original installer to install the latest version. The next update is due in a few days, probably before Christmas, version 1.0 will be reached around the time the consumer Rift is available.
There seems to be an issue with Portal 2 that apparently affects about 10% of all machines. Unfortunately we cannot reproduce this issue here so far, but since Portal 2 is quite popular this is under constant investigation.
In case you haven’t done so before, please check the steps mentioned in the trouble shooting guide above, maybe it contains something useful for your problems. Refunds are not possible after a month of usage, I hope that’s understandable. Also please keep in mind that there are no guarantees regarding unsupported games.
Hope that helps.
I got Vorpx about a month ago and I’m having serious concerns about the progress of this application. I haven’t seen ANY news on an upcoming update and I can only play half of my Steam games! I only have like 8 games too, and I can’t even play Portal 2, which is advertised to work! I even created a Vorpx shortcut for Portal 2 to get it working, yet it will only crash after 2 minutes of gameplay. Is this program going to be coming out of beta, or am I going to have to fight for a refund? I feel robbed.
I was not able to run Portal 2 with VorpX.
I used Vireio instead.
I’ve noticed that Portal 2 kills the active VorpX task every time it starts up in non-VorpX mode (i.e. non-binocular).
I’ve had plenty of success with VorpX but, even though it’s listed as having full 3D driver support on the VorpX main page, I’ve never once had any luck in getting Portal 2 to run up with VorpX.
I’ve tried launching without Steam overlay, disabling anti virus, etc, just always starts up in normal (non-VorpX) mode – has anyone had any luck getting this working yet? I’m guessing by it’s popularity as a game and it’s non-presence on this list that it works okay for everyone?
I can reproduce it 100% of the time here. Is there any information that you want me to gather that may help getting it working? I’m not sure if it matters, but I’m using the motion pack version of portal 2 (i.e. the razer hydra version)
An in-game crash in Portal 2 never was reproducible here unfortunately. Neither with the first release version nor with the latest.
