Hey everyone, new to site, new to occulus rift :)
As long as i’ve been gaming, i’ve always inverted the mosuelook or controllor input for up and down, problem is, when I do that with vorpx games, it also inverts the information when i use my head to look up or down. Is there any way to change this so when i use controllor to look up i can have inverted, and still keep my head movement follow the actual direction of my head?
It’s proving a real stumbling block for me, I just can’t do anything!
Games I have installed so far are Fallout 4, Skyrim SE and GTAV (I havent set this up yet but assuming I will run into same problem)
If it’s not possible on these games, are there any games where it IS possible?
Thanks in advance!!
Hi did some more modifications on settings. I turned off the GTA5 ingame upscale and cranked up th Nvidia DSR to 4. I enabled all features in GTA5 to max and in Nvidia controlpanel i chose the highest value on every single choice.
Ambiant oculusion in gTA5 to max
MSAA off.
The result is a flicker free and even in distant view an acceptable graphics.
I installed the FOV mod ( hud mods dont work) set it to 120.
VisualV and add on with no coronas installed ,ragehook lspdfr and like 30 other mods
work flawlessley together now.
The image is still not as clear as FO4 or Skyrim but considering there is a lots of airpolution in LS the game looks great.
Please choose the standard 4:3 resolutions that I recommended earlier: 1600×1200 or 1920×1440, those are best for vorpX for various reasons. For your machine 1920×1440 will work fine.
If you “only” have a 1080 monitor, you will have to run the game windowed for that. Otherwise the higher resolutions won’t work.
If you play the original DX9 Skyrim, you can alternatively use the “Internal Resolution Upscale” option in the vorpX ingame menu that I mentioned earlier.
First please make sure that you choose a game resolution appropriate for your PC. vorpX’s default (1280×1024), which is applied by the game optimizer, is a compromise between quality and performance. On a reasonably fast system (e.g. GTX 1070) you can go beyond that (1600×1200 or 1920×1440). Tip: reduce graphics settings from “Ultra” to “High” in the game’s launcher. Looks almost as good and helps to maintain a good framerate at higher resolutions.
Hi Ralf,
Thanks for chipping in.
My machine is an i7-7700 with a 1080Ti and 32gb 3200Mhz DDR4 so I don’t expect peformance issues.
Ok so this 100% sounds like a resolution issue for me.
So in a nutshell then, I should untick the resolution from the optimiser and use whichever I can get away with correct? I don’t need to amend the Elder Scrolls V – Skyrim profile?
Thanks I’m going to have another play around.

For Skyrim (the DX9 version) vorpX also has an internal upscale option, which you can use alternatively. It can be found on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu.
The field of view is calculated 100% correct by Direct VR provided that the scan succeeded. If you still feel it looks ‘tiny’, you can raise it on the Direct VR page of the vorpX ingame menu. Keep in mind though that this will cause image distortion. The auto-calculated FOV is 100% correct.
The first person/weapon FOV can also be further adjusted on the Direct VR page of the vorpX ingame menu to a certain degree. General info: hands/weapons in many games are rendered separate from the world to look good on a monitor. Despite adjusting the FOV vorpX can’t do much about that.
In Skyrim however you can install mods that use the third person player model in first person view. There are several of those. Not all might work with vorpX though.
Hi,
Ive tried Vorpx in both Badlands 2 and the original Skyrim and all I can say is they are both horrible.
The field of view is tiny and for instance, in Skyrim I have gigantic hands, the 3D isn’t too bad but seriously.
Am I doing something wrong? My typical test goes like this (I’ll use Skyrim as an example)
1. Fire up configure VorpX
2. Check I have a Skyrim profile, good I have one.
3. Go to “game settings optimiser” and select Elder Scrolls V – Skyrim
4. Click “Optimise settings” then “Apply and Close”
5. Launch game
6. Do the scan as requested.
Horrible, utterly horrible.
Any advice would be appreciated, if I can’t any decent kind of result soon, i’ll cut my losses and uninstall.
Thanks
I have setup Skyrim using the built in profile and have tried tweaking all of the settings to no avail.
I can generally play for about 30 minutes or so and then the game will freeze in headset but still be playable on the normal monitor. Some times it will just flat out freeze up both in headset and normal monitor. There doesn’t seem to be any trigger specifically. I have 0 mods installed. When it crashes, I have to do a full reboot. Closing Vorpx, Oculus and Steam won’t work.
This happened when using my AMD 7870 and also on my new GTX1080.
PC Specs:
Ryzen 1700x
16GB DDR4 3000
EVGA GTX1080 Classified
Oculus Rift with Touch (using keyboard and mouse to play though)
Hopefully find the form or some method to actually get this.
With the arrival of new future announced VR versions for Fallout 4 and Skyrim, VR support by using Alien isolation mod, Doom3 mod and bfg edition, silent update for native Dying Light support with Cv1, and the currently developing mod For Half Life 2 VR …
The current situation makes Elder Scrolls Online now, among a few others, one of the new best candidates to play in VR using Vorpx.
The inclusion of 3D Geometry for games based on Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite engine, would also be an improvement that Vorpx and users, shout out in this times.
Solved the issue somehow. Here is link that helped for some parts of the problem.

I have to admit best setting is not sufficiant, still.
But here: I got rid of the excessive flickering and blurry distant view.
I upscaled in the nvidia DSR setting to 2.5.
Enabled all Nvidia controll panel setting and maxed them out.
In GTA5 graphics settings i upscaled to 2.0, and in video settings i enabled MSAA (4 x) and Nvidia TXAA. Turned on vsync and reduced reflection setting.
The ratio is set to 4:3
In vorpx menu i use letterbox 2 ( if i use pixel 1:1 the image has visible flickering edges little bit less in letterbox 1)
The result is i can read street signs in first person and flickering edges and fences and distant skyline flickering is gone. In third person , i have the fov mod installed ( third person set to 120) , the street sign are readable if the character has passed the signs a few meters .
Now the game is playable without annoying sideeffects. But compared to other games like Skyrim FO4 TW3 the image is like looking throug a stained window .
I think GTA5 and CV1 is not compatible in any way. I guess i switch back to Nvidia 3dplay and use my old 3d glasses.
@Ralph,, pls can u hint what graphic effects to use with CV1.
Watercooled I7 6900k, GTX1080TI watercooled, 6 ssd 500gb
Skyrim is perfect !
I do have skyrim at a 1920X1440 res. installed. No effects only vsync enabled.
The image is very clear , no coronas flickering or other distorting things just a pain clear image.
I do have GTA5 installed but the image is not comparable to skyrim its so bad.
The resolution is 1920X1440. The image has coronas, flickering no clear image fences look like flickering endless.
same in Witcher 3 (checked all resolution even 4k )slightly more clear as GTA5 but it looks like too crispy with little corona on everything
Fallout4 has a decent image almost comparable to Skyrim.
Which effects to avoid and which to use , i tried all day long and iam fed up now .
The image on screen is ok but in cv1 its all screwed pls give some hints
THX
The best games to start with are undoubtedly those with Direct VR support. After applying Direct VR these have perfect 1:1 head tracking and perfect FOV without the need for any further setup. In *some* cases Direct VR even provides basic roomscale, i.e. you can walk around a bit more freely than with the normal vorpX positional tracking.
In no particular order:
Bioshock 1 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock 2 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock Infinite
Borderlands 2
Borderlands Pre-Sequel
Skyrim (original DX9 version is best for VorpX)
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Fallout 4
Dishonored
Half-Life 2 (incl. Ep. 1+2)
The Stanley Parable
Dear Esther (Source engine version)
Portal
Portal 2
Black Mesa
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Left 4 Dead 2
Mirror’s Edge
Aliens Colonial Marines
Duke Nukem Forever
Quake III
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force
Return to Castle Wolfenstein [2001]
My latest personal recommendation would be Half-Life 2 Episode 1, which I just recently played for two hours. Something I don’t do nearly as often as I’d like to these days. Call me heavily biased, I am for sure, but that was more fun than 99% of made for VR games. I actually ended up doing that after buying and trying a bunch of highly praised made for VR titles the same evening.
In case someone never played HL2 Episode 1: right at the start you enter an alien fortress, which not only still looks great after all these years, it’s also a perfect-for-VR mix of shooting sequences and (easy) physics puzzles. Most importantly: all that in a highly intense atmosphere that almost inescapably sucks you into the game. Creating such an intense atmosphere is the hard part of making good single player shooters and it really makes all the difference in VR. Hard to top if you ask me.
Similar things could be said about Bioshock, Black Mesa (Half-Life 1 remake), the Fallout games, Skyrim or – insider tip – Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may just be a mediocre shooter on the monitor, but is actually great with vorpX.
Important side note: whenever possible play standing with Touch controllers or Vive wands!
One last thing: not a Direct VR game, but also extremely intense (and visually great) is Resident Evil 7. I chickened out before the introduction mission was over. Good luck with that one.
Oh god yes, give me Dying Light on the CV1 Rift PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!
I’d buy this software for just that right now..
I’m going to buy it anyway because………………………………..Half Life 2 & Skyrim
I’d like to disagree but I can’t.. I’m a new Rift owner and while I love my purchase, you are correct about the quality of the available games in general.
I have to give Frontier props though because Elite Dangerous is masterful in VR but yes, I will be buying this software at the weekend because the idea of playing Skyrim and Borderlands 2 in VR sounds totally delicious.
I want to play a decent MMO in VR as a matter of priority as well if anyone has any tips of what they play?! I have posted to see if anyone has got ESO going in any decent fashion so please chip in if you know anything.
Cheers
Hello Vorpxians! I am delighted to have played through Enderal for Skyrim in full Geometry 3D with Vorpx on the Pimax 4K.
It was brilliant and made other 2d games very boring!
Now I am asking you all – what are the best games to play in VR right now?
The requirements are as follows –
1. The game has to be full geometry 3D only – anything less just doesn’t do it!
2. The game must be a full experience – not like those silly little VR games!
3. The game must be high rated in general, preferably first person!
Any suggestions would be great!
P.S. I have tried Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 and 4, Doom and others – but they are unfortunately non-geometry 3D and don’t look great or immersive enough!
I’m unsure what I’m doing incorrectly. Whenever I launch a game, Steam VR shows it’s status as exiting, and I can only a blank virtual environment in the headset, as shown below:

You’ll need to right click and open the image in a new window to see it.
This happens with nearly all games.
