    Hey there
I have a question. What’s the experience of Skyrim in VR? Is it good? Im going to buy a HTC Vive soon and I’d like to know ;)

    some things I’d recommend:
-Check out the G.E.M.S Mod (http://skyrimgems.com/)
-For visuals: Follow the Tutorial on http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30936/? imo these are the best graphis you can have. You might wanna go for the lower settings though since you want to run in VR.
Hope that helped a bit. if you need any help just let me know :)

    Hello,
Firstly my expectations are not too high, love VR and prefer the immersion over super high graphics, so now I want to play some of my older games with my headset, Now I have searched and seen some information but most of it seems from may or for the rift.

    My Pc
    Win 10 64 pro
    16gb ddr4
    intel 6700k
    Asus 170 gamer pro mb
    Nvidia 1080 G1
    Samsung 950 pro M2 HD

So my system is actually pretty good so what I am asking is how should I tweak the game (I have already followed the STEP early stuff installed most of the mods that improve performance) and Vorpx software to get the best experience.

Thank you for any advice or suggestions

    Hi,
I know most of these questions could be answered if I had access to Vorpx myself, but I bought Vorpx for my visually impaired dad, so he could play games. He tried the DK2 at my friends house and walking around in Skyrim is almost as clear as the real world to him.
I messed around and got it setup up, but the 3d edge peek mode was way to small for him to be able to read the menus. I realized that the old 2d edge peek mode, that he used the first time he played might be used instead, but I didn’t test it out.

    1. Is there a zoom function in 2d edge peek or is it already enlargening the screen?
    2. Does 2d edge peek turn off headtracking in the game, so the world doesn’t spin around, so he could use it to zoom in an item in the game? (like reading the names of items while looking at it in Skyrim)
    3. Is the mouse in the center of the screen?
    4. Is 2 edge peek implemented in desktop mode. If not would it be possible to add? (This could actually change my farthers computer use not only for games, but reading, surfing and making music, if it was well implemented).

    Thanks guys

Okay, I got it working with Vorpx’s controller emulations, but couldn’t see the direct headtracking feature anywhere even though Skyrim is mentioned in the What’s new sections of Vorpx config.

Hi, I’m gonna set Vorpx up for my seeing impaired dad and tomorrow, and it would really be a big help if he could play Skyrim with a controller instead of mouse keyboard.
The last time i tried it ( a year ago) I couldn’t get it working, because Skyrim seems to hook into the controller an I couldn’t get Vorpx controls to work either. I can’t seem to find a guide on how to set it up for Skyrim and the threads discussing the subject are either old or rather vague. The DK2 is at my dads, so I can’t mess with it myself and I have limited time tomorrow as we are going to install mods and setup the game for VR friendly setup too.
Are there any guides describing controller setup with vorpx and Skyrim?

With some luck the Fallout 4 profile may give basic support, although that’s not very likely in this case. Even if it works to a degree: good profiles always require game specific work to deal with shadows, HUD and other shader fixes.

So while you might be able to get it working to a degree, it would be a far cry from the current normal Skyrim profile.

I know it isn’t out yet so any statements as to Vorpx support is speculation at this point, but is it safe to assume that because it’s the same engine that theres a good chance that current Vorpx profiles will be applicable to the enhanced edition for day1 support?

And if not, is Skyrim enhanced edition a priority for getting decent Vorpx support despite basically being a 5 year old game that already has a version that is well supported?

    Hi,
I am not sure how much of this is a Windows Issue vs. SteamVR issue vs. VorpX vs. Skyrim issue.

I ran Skyrim for the first time on my VR. Headset for the first time. It looked amazing. And Vorpx head tracking worked perfectly. It was like I was really in Skyrim.

However, once menus started coming up, I can tell that the distance or size was not correct. I tried monkeying with all sorts of settings in both Skyrim and in Vorpx.

I kind of got frustrated with it when I realized in trying to close one of the menues, at the last second, something clicked that I didn’t really mean to click, and my Xbox 360 controller got disbled.

Yesterday, I loaded vorpx, and started Skyrim. It would not come on in VR mode no matter what I did. And head tracking from VorpX was not working. It was far enough away to be able to see and navigate menus, And even though I can technically enable the Xbox 360 controller in the options panel, every time I save, exit out…when I go back in, its disabled again. If I go into a different game that uses controllers, the controller works fine.

I would try to get by with mouse for now, but any time I click on something, instead of the clicks registering, I get a number and command pad of some kind.. If I click enough times, 1 out of 50 clicks will eventually sneak through and actually click on something. But the number thing still comes up the NEXT time I go to click on something. This ONLY happens in Skyrim..

I have an Asus system with an Nvidia GXT980 card.

I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer me. I will probably also post this on the VorpX support pages.

    Thanks for the response!

Risen doesn’t support a windowed mode unfortunately. Tried resetting video card settings to default but Risen still failing, although now it gets further and throws an out of memory error even though the process never exceeds 800MB of mem consumption. Closer but still can’t play in psuedo-vr :(

Dark messiah M&M gets to the menu now after resetting video card settings so one of those must have caused ctd. It looks to be a source engine game so not sure why it doesn’t give me the option under video to change from fullscreen to anything, fullscreen is the only option in the drop down. I do have console enabled so I can test options there but can’t get the game to load the level. Still unable to play :(
Would you mind sharing your video card driver version and os?
Really looking forward to try any third person action/rpg game other than skyrim as it has limited support for that mode and locked on character camera control for pitch and yaw rotation with head tracking that is just dizzying. Trying roll rotation just hurts in that mode so I only tried it once lol. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!

Trying to get two steam games that are on the supported list to work and they are failing to start. I have both vive and oculus rift cv1 head sets to test with and both give the similar results. The games in question start ok without vorpx running. Read through the troubleshooting options in vorpx and the post on the forums, disabling antivirus, aero and other windows services, no other overlay apps running, no steam overlay, tried changing many settings in game outside of vorpx to see if that helps, swapping out of cinema mode and cycling between the 3d modes – geometry/z/z adapt doesn’t help. Recently upgrade from a GTX780 to 1080 but same results on both video cards.

Risen – this starts ok in cinema mode but shows all black screen. Never renders game. Switching out of cinema mode and cycling between the 3d modes – geometry/z/z adapt doesn’t help, display stays black.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic – this crashes to desktop on start consistently after showing the main game menu scene with the character rendered, seems to want to work but then just crashes.

    System info:
    Windows 7
    ASUS nVidia GTX1080 Founders Edition
    Intel i5 2500k
    24GB RAM
Windows defender / Microsoft security essentials

Games that I have tested to work for me currently:
    Fallout4
    Skyrim
    Oblivion
    Dirt 3
    Torchlight 2
    Bastion

Please make sure that the game runs fast enough if you experience any severe lag. You can check the current frame rate by pressing [ALT][F]. Do not ignore warnings that vorpX may show in this regard. For smooth gameplay you need 45fps, Skyrim can easily drop below that with highest settings.

Depending on your PC, choose either the “High” or “Medium” preset in the Skyrim launcher. “High” should work fine on high end GPUs like GTX1070/1080, “Medium” is the right choice for VR minimum specs GPUs (GTX970). Alternatively switch to Z-Buffer 3D in vorpX, which doesn’t look as good but is a lot faster.

If you use mods, remove all of them, especially graphics enhancing (“ENB” etc.) mods and hires texture packs. Add them back one by one to sort out the ones with a high impact on frame rate.

Hands can be fixed by setting fDefault1stPersonFOV under [Display] in your Skyrim.ini to something in the range of 120-140. Caveat: to apply the value you need to open the “star menu” and/or map once. After that the value will stick.

The next vorpX will have a bunch of improvements that make this easier and also remove one frame of extra latency on Vive, but Skyrim will stay a game where you have to keep an eye on your settings for a smooth frame rate.

4 gig is too much for an unmodded Skyrim, maybe not all textures got removed when you removed your mods. With an unmodded Skyrim you should see something around 3 gigs at highest settings normally. At least that’s what I get here.

Just email Ralf, I’m sure hell get it sorted asap.

I STILL can’t get elite running on my rig. I gave up trying. First it was a dll thing then I forget what else. Havent touched it in a month. Looks awesome though.

There’s another thread on Tech Support you might find interesting

    Ralf – Multicore affinity question

I got Skyrim Performance monitor working right. It’s not draw calls, CPU bind or ‘technically’ Skyrim’s code. Turns out, it’s the DX9 win 10 ram limit. I finally got accurate data (theres a screen grab). Add VorpX to Skyrim and it inhales the memory. the result looks exactly like a draw call problem. Instant stutterfest at 18FPS.
