I just tried Skyrim with VorpX last night on my Vive. I used the VorpX game optimizer and set fov to 120. The game is pretty pixelated at 1280×1024. Is this normal? Also, are you guys playing the game with cinema mode on or off?

Weird, 3rd time loading did the trick! Everything is in proper 3D now. Thanks!

The only remaining issue is that something with the scale seems to have changed from the prior version? Even jacking up the separation to the max (5.0), the world is still oversized. This wasn’t an issue in previous versions, where 1.2-15 was perfect. It’s also not an issue in other games (just tried Skyrim, for instance).

Im having the same problem. Only game that will hook is skyrim. Windows 10 3xgtx980 ti. My vorpx is installed on c and my steam is on D if that makes any difference. I will get a log for you later ralf.

Pretty much the exact same issue. Tried a couple of games with no luck, saw this post loaded up skyrim, worked fine in that.

    Update:
It really does seem to be a mouse input related problem.
I tried turning on HT as x-box controller and looking around was very smooth (although terrible because the head just kept spinning around with any slight movement of my head).

I don’t think you can configure x-box controller as HT nicely in skyrim. So I am at the same problem.

Looking with the mouse is always smooth.
Looking with my head is jittery and jumpy (very uncomfortable)
When I use “disable mouse y-axis” then I can look up and down in the y-axis very smoothly but looking left or right in x-axis is still jittery (feels a lot like jutter with low framerate even though my framerate is 60+).

I guess you fixed it but for anyone else…

In the FirstPersonPlugin.txt in the \steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\ folder

    !set fPositionOffsetDepth -15

    and

    +set bHideHelmet true

This is an old post but it seems to address the exact problem I am noticing now.

I have been having a lot of problems with the smoothness of Skyrim and have finally discovered the core issue.

I play in Z-3D with a framerate of 50 – 75 fps everywhere and 74-75fps in interiors. However head tracking always felt jumpy/jittery and uncomfortable.

I noticed that looking around with mouse is always smooth, however looking with my head causes the jump/jittering and feels very uncomfortable. I played alot with HT sensitivity settings and all manner of graphics settings with no success.

Finally I noticed that turning on the “disable mouse Y-axis” now makes my looking up and down in the Y-axis silky smooth and very comfortable. SUCCESS (for y-axis)
However, looking left and right in the x-axis is still very jittery and uncomfortable. Is this some kind of mouse emulation problem? If you were able to fix this please let me know.

I thought it was framerate lag but setting graphics down was no help. This problem was the same for me in Oblivion (where framerate is even better).

    Hey BrillBill,

thank you for this information. Can you tell me (us) how exactly you adjusted the head back to -15 in this mod.

I also have the vive and installed this mod yesterday. In a reddit post, i found that the near clip should be set to 620 to get rid of the “bid hands issue” … i tried it indoors in skyrim and it was great…but outdoors i have some issues….

Ah ok. I tried vanilla but got the same issue.

However… it actually seems like it happens out of VR as well (though it’s always been fine on my system) so there is already fix :) Tweaking the SkyrimPref.ini or by a mod to disable the underwater effects.

    This worked for me…

    bDoDepthOfField=0
    iRadialBlurLevel=0

You do not have to use any of the fov enhancement functions for Skyrim. The FOV can be adjusted to the recommended value by pressing the “Aadjust FOV” button in the vorpX menu.

Alternatively you can use other values by typing fov 120 (or any other value) into the game’s console. The console can be opened with the tilde key (the one below ESC).

I would generally recommend not to tweak too much. You can very easily cause more damage than good. Adjusting FOV and head tracking sensitivity normally is all that has to be done.

Hey, I bought skyrim yesterday and tried it with the vive…but got motion sick like 10 minutes into the game. What did you change to make it less dizzy? I just used the game optimizer option

Took a bit of tweaking but I’ve been amazed at Skyrim on the Vive.

I had the massive hands problem when you set the FOV to 120. I followed some of the threads on here but the Vorpx settings didn’t resolve the problem. Maybe Rift settings don’t directly map to the Vive?

So I went for the Immersive First Person View mod. In there I turned off showing the helmet and set my head back to -15 and it’s been great.

    http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49036/?

In the end I used the default Vorpx settings.

The only problem now is that underwater, the graphics just go blank. I’m guessing that’s just some incompatibly with the drivers? Is that the sort of thing that will improve with time?

Do you get the same with the Rift?

    Is there another potential fix?

    Cheers

p.s. been playing for hours with mouse and keyboard – no motion sickness.

Will do. I play a -LOT- of Skyrim so if you need anything on that front/besides this issue, I’ll be glad to lend a hand.

I’ll figure out how to set up/save that file, put some time in and have you the results by tomorrow.

    Thanks Ralf, much appreciated.
