Ralf, I’d been wanting to give this a try but had been holding off until I started watching the series and you’ve outdone yourself with the DirectVR in this game. Truly beautiful. I’m not using the latest VorpX, but 23.1.5 I think and it’s just great. Should I upgrade? Will in make a difference? I primarily play using the controllers in Gamepad mode.

    Hi all,
I am not completely new to VorpX, I used it in the past with an Oculus Rift (a few years ago, so most likely quite a few versions ago), and I remember Dear Esther working particularly well, with almost perfect Direct VR, positional head tracking too.

I tried again now with a Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop (I read that it should work if I select Steam VR mode).. the game launches and it is hooked by vorpX, but it works terribly.. flickering, no positional tracking, head turning works but I can see black areas when I turn my head and the rendering that “catches up” later and gets in front of me with some delay, if you know what I mean..
I am on Windows 11 so I read Ralf’s message about performance issues with DX9 games (not sure if DE falls into this category) on Windows 11 and so I tried upgrading to vorpx 24.1.0, but nothing changed.

I tried re-scanning directVR but it seemed to have made things even worse.. what am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

I figured this out after a lot of trial and error. I will run through everything I did hopefully it helps others facing this issue.

    1. Go into Configure vorpx – Click on Exclude Programs – Exclude EAlink.exe. For extra caution just exclude everything EA related

    2. Turn off all firewall and virus scans. I use Macfee mainly, but I also needed to turn of Windows Defender Firewall scan, just turn everything off that you can. Remember to turn them back on when you are done playing TF2

    3. Turn off all overlays. NVidia has a built-in overlay, steam has a built-in overlay, xbox has the game bar (for xbox game bar make sure to turn of the camera option), turn off every overlay that you can find

    4. Turn off all notifications in windows so you cannot receive any pop-up messages

    5. Disconnect any extra screens you have hooked to your pc

    6. Lastly, go to the games exe file AKA Titanfall2.exe. Right click on Titanfall2.exe – click “properties” – Click “Compatibility” – Check “run the program in compatibility mode for Windows 8”
Check “Disable Fullscreen optimizations” – Click “Apply”.

Thats it. Has been working great for me since I did all these steps. Step 6 was the last thing tried before it started working for me. So, working backwards from 6 to 1 may be a smart move. I turned the game off and back on a handful of times just to insure it was not a fluke. Keep in mind that if you turn TF2 off you will need to fully exit out of your vr mode as well before trying to restart, at least that was the case for me.

I’m playing FNV with Vorpx and a lite collection of mods via MO2 called Viva New Vegas. Obviously we know the issues arising with ini redirection and Mod Organizer. However, I’ve turned off the ability for MO to change ini files.

Here’s my problem: I ran Direct VR and set res to ‘ultra’ (I’m on Vorpx 24.10 with a 3090ti) The res is set to something like 3340 x 2280 I have bfullscreen set to 0 in falloutprefs and ‘windowed’ box checked in the NV Launcher. When I launch the game through MO it is indeed windowed but trying to display the 3340 x 2280 resolution which obviously overlaps my available screen space, resulting in not being able to click on anything in-game that’s hidden by the monitor.

If I run via the NV Launcher the desired res is of course not available< I have to choose a much lower one. Any res I set in order to get a working screen space is then my vorpx game resolution but my mods are all available.

I need to find a way to have the cosmetic game monitor window not be the same size as my Vorpx one. Obviously MO2 doesn’t know I’m using a secondary display via the headset. Is there something I can set in custom.ini OR will making falloutprefs.ini read-only cause problems with the Vorpx process?

It’s likely to be FRIK causing the problem if you have made any adjustments to height etc. Try running without it enabled (assume using MO2 or similar) and set world scaling defaults back… Happened to me with FalloutVR essentials mod.

Thanks for coming back to me Boblekobold.

Still not sorted but close! I haven’t had this with other games im playing such as Starfield or Stalker Anomaly, just with Fallout 4.
I am playing the Fallout Anomaly mod pack and it all looks really good apart from this scope thing. I have tried with as many FalloutPrefs, custom etc to match up FOV’s and done the directVR scans in game but nothing works.
I then downloaded the 24.1.0 vorpx beta today, fired the game up and did a DirectVR scan and it worked! Scopes were working as they should and zooming in. Paused the game, it then went really blurry and crashed when i tried to reload. Now getting in game and doing the scan doesn’t change anything and scopes not working again.
The FOV does stutter around in game so i think it might be one of the mods causing problems but with 816 mods i have not idea which one!

    @Greyhaim :
I guess you could not use DirectVR and check “Don’t Optimize game settings”.
Then you set a very high 4:3 resolution (for Quest 3 or Reverb G2) in game (use VorpX Beta and virtual monitor to enable any resolution you need).
I usually use 3840×2880 or at least 2880×2160 on my Reverb G2.
Try to set ClarityFX to full (and adjust sharpness).
    Unzoom full VR.

Then raise FOV (google “change fallout 4 fov”)

Try 120 and adjust it until you have the right scale (remember the value, it will be approximatively the same in every game).

    Adjust headtracking sensitivity.

    @dazzla :
I didn’t try Fallout 4, but when you use VorpX, you change resolution in game (or in .ini/.cfg game files).

You must usually change FOV too.

Most headset (Quest 3, Reverb G2) have a 4:3 resolution. So choose a resolution like 2880×2160 at least or 3840×2880 if your PC can handle it.

You must set a high FOV too (try 120 for example) to use full VR.

That’s what a native game would do. You just have to do it yourself if needed.

In Full VR, you should unzoom to the border of your view. It will be blurry if you zoom into the image.

    —-

If you can’t change the game resolution, maybe you should check “Don’t optimize game settings” in VorpX config.
Use VorpX Beta and virtual monitor to have any resolution you need, even if your monitor doesn’t handle it.
Last thing : games with detailed textures will be better, because you see every detail in VR…

Hi Ralf, long shot but did you ever get anywhere with this? I’m just playing Fallout 4 Anomaly and it all looks great apart from the scopes not working.
    thanks

    Hi!

I wonder if anyone else have the issue, but when I start titanfall 2 with the default profile it just freezes, and I need to kill VR.

I tested running some other games without issues, but its just titanfall 2 that fails. I downloaded the latest version of vorpx, but it did not help.

Anyone else ran into this issue?

Has anyone tried the Magnum Opus Fallout 4 mod list with Vorpx?

Bioshock Infinite (especially Burial at Sea Episode 2) and Bioshock 1 original (I guess Bioshock 2 original is even better) if you have an old graphic card.

Metro 2033/Last Light, etc. are awesome (Metro Exodus is the most beautiful game you could do I think). But a good graphic card is needed.

All Bioshock and Metro have G3D (even if raytracing without G3D can be a good option too in Metro Exodus).

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t the best because even with an RTX4090, it’s not enough.

Elden Ring, Death Stranding, Guardian of the galaxy are really better in VorpX (even if it’s not full VR).
Redfall too. Deathloop is Ok (especially the end).

I guess games like Farcry Primal, Dishonored, Prey 2017, etc. must be really good (I think they have G3D but I didn’t try them yet).

    Dying Light 1 of course.

First person game that allow you to have high 4:3 resolution (3480×2880 or at least 2880×2160) and 120 FOV are like native games in VorpX (with G3D, or at least Z3D but It’s not so important to me and even without 3D at all, some games are awesome in full VR).

Any game with good looking graphics, heights/vertigo or giant environment/ennemies are usually great in VorpX.

This issue just started for me. Dragon’s Dogma, Fallout 3, etc. Anything but G3D just shows horizontal lines. Using Quest 3 via Link cable. Will keep playing around, but believe it’s a pretty recent issue.

I’m jumping back into NV using Very Last Kiss’ collection (https://next.nexusmods.com/newvegas/collections/jscbqj) and it seems to be working pretty well so far! I picked it because it was the most endorsed list on Nexus.

I previously I did a Fallout 4 VR playthrough with my own custom mod-list. SUPER recommend Sim Settlements 2, even if you don’t like settlements, it has a custom story, voice acting, scripted events and is overall amazing!

What is your favorite game and mod-list to play? Any recommendations? I settled on NV and this mod-list just on a lark but I’m open to bigger and better suggestions.

No, this is not an April falls joke. The reverb G2 will no longer be supported in any next Windows update. I’m sure there will be work around, but officially EOL.
