sparkyhodgoParticipantBioshock 2 I’m having the same issue. Let me see what happens if I pause the watcher…
Answer: if you pause the VorpX watcher it works better (ie lets you access the esc menu) but still crashes after a short time.

sparkyhodgoParticipantSo finally got Vorpx to work correctly with my Vive with Ralf’s help. I’ve tried a few games and I’m getting some issues:
– Bioshock 2: It crashes after a few moments
Same here. I can’t get Bioshock 2 to go more than about 10 seconds in-game without crashing. It’s beautiful while it lasts but not at all playable. Anyone find a solution? (I read elsewhere that pausing the watcher might help)

sparkyhodgoParticipantIgnoring Bioshock 1 which I have an unusual problem of only 25% of the screen displaying which could be something else entirely I am seeing injections that simply aren’t working.
1- Bioshock 2 the process terminates a couple of seconds after launching, pause the watcher and the game works fine.
Sounds like you’re running Bioshock 1 in DirectX 10 mode. Try DirectX 9 (-dx9 in launch parameters)
Bioshock 2 I’m having the same issue. Let me see what happens if I pause the watcher…
RalfKeymasterDid you run the Direct VR scanner after entering the gameworld/level?
If Direct VR is active, you should be able to use the gamepad natively. Both games have Direct VR. The vorpX gamepad emulation is only required without Direct VR for games that do not allow mouse + gamepad to be used together. Normally it gets automatically disabled as soon as Direct VR kicks in.
Apart from that your issue sounds as if walk/run are inverted, which you should be able to change in the vorpX menu.
I would highly suggest to play with Direct VR + native gamepad though (or even better the Touch/Vive controllers if available).
If you do not see any hint about Direct VR when you start Fallout 3 and Bioshock Infinite, reinstall vorpX. As of now the latest version is 17.1.2.

TyrminaotrParticipantHey. After 17.1.2 update I can’t use scanner for Bioshock Infinite… Works great for 17.1.1 and 17.1.0
Jan 1, 2017 at 5:15pm #124064In reply to: Positional tracking via Direct VR?
RalfKeymasterThe DirectVR page in the menu is only shown if a game actually supports DirectVR.
Currently this true for these games: Fallout 4, Skyrim, Skyrim Special Edition, Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, Borderlands 2, Bishock (original), Bioshock 2 (original), Bioshock Infinite, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Black Mesa Source.

ghost_master2kParticipantYep, Bioshock 2 profile works for Rocket League, but I seem to have lost the Geometry 3d strength slider. I can play though, so woooo. Thanks.

ChuckHeadParticipantRe-installed VorpX with the latest web installer, created a RL profile off of Bioshock 2, and viola! Thanks Ralf, you are a god among men.
Give me a bit to tweak some things, and I’ll get a profile up on the cloud later today.
Thanks again!

RalfKeymaster@ steph12 : Thanks!
@ ghost_master2k, ChuckHead : I don’t have Rocket League installed, so I can’t test, but I may have a quick fix. Judging from ghost_master2k’s log entry the beahviour may be caused by a change in vorpX’s handling of .exe’s that initialize multiple rendering API’s at the same time.
Please try another UE3 engine game from the list as a base profile for your custom profile (e.g. Bioshock 2 for DX9 or Bioshock Infinite for DX11 depending on what you need).
You can also try to reinstall vorpX with your web installer and then make a new custom profile with the generic UE3 profile. I uploaded a quick update that restores the old (and normally worse) multi-API-behavior for the generic Unreal engine profile, which *might* (emphasis on might) fix the issue.
If it does, it would be nice if one of you could upload the new Rocket League custom profile to the cloud.
Nov 6, 2016 at 1:40pm #122524In reply to: List of G3D games?
RalfKeymasterThe spreadsheet gives a pretty good overview. A few G3D games are missing (e.g. Bioshock 2, Fallout 4 from briefly skimming over it), but other than that it’s pretty much the current state.
A little hint for advanced users: not all G3D games have positional tracking enabled per default, either because it wasn’t tested or found to be too glitchy. You can enable it in all G3D games yourself though at your own risk if the expert options checkbox is ticked in the config app. The according options then can be found on the head tracking page of the ingame menu.

tig3rmast3rParticipantOk i’ve tried again bioshock infinite, it looks there’s no way to avoid the crystal ball because you can’t set the fov high enough even tweaking the cfg file manually (or using vorpx game optimizer that does the same). don’t know if setting other resolutions may solve the problem, maybe i should search for an aspect ratio tweak and do more tests, but i need to have fov configured properly when i’m at 16:9 resolution (so i can use DSR, see below)
i’ve changed game, time for deus ex human revolution, this time i’ve been able to see a proper vr, fov 120 (89 converted to vertical), also i’ve solved the pixel/aliasing mess, vive supersampling does not work, because it’s supersampled AFTER the game render (as it’s an injection), so only way is using nvidia DSR, i’m running it at 4k and it’s very good looking, thanks to the latest steamvr beta feature asyncronous reprojection i’m able to play it quite smoothly and it looks great.
Only drawback is the weapon/hands that are 2d.
it runs between 45 and 55 fps but direct mode is over 150fps, i don’t know if there’s a way to set the game fps higher. what is that direct mode fps exactly? Strange thing is that i have 45/55fps too without 4k resolution.
Tried turning off direct async in vorpx but my cpu usage goes crazy and i get no fps gain, turned off fluid as i get double images when i move the head, btw is a big step forward, hope to find other games where vorpx is fully functional like this one.
last note, i get sick after a few minutes with deusex, probably is too fast, there is a little delay with headtracking, but it’s not the problem, the problem is the player movement, will try again tomorrow morning when i’m fresh, i think is just a matter of getting used, i hope at least :)

ArturoParticipantI’ve experienced a couple of games on Pimax 4K powered by VorpX. I’ve bought VorpX a couple of weeks ago but I’m already experienced in VR and 3D (anaglyph 3D, cross-eyed, parallel eyed, Tridef 3D, iZ3D, Nvidia 3D TV Play, Nvidia 3D Vision, helixmod, Vireio Perception). Configuring VorpX was pretty easy. No help needed.
Games played on Pimax 4K + VorpX + modifications like FOV, DSR, no GUI, latency optimizations:
– Alien Isolation
– Battlefield 3
– Bioshock Infinite
– GTA 5
– Skyrim Original
– Skyrim Special Edition (cloned Fallout 4 profile)Depending on the game-/vorpX compatibility geometry 3D or z-adaptive.
Disadvantge:
– lil bit of ghosting while moving the head (sometimes not visible, depends on the scene)
– 60hz instead of 90hz (not recommended for fast motion games)
– IPD adjustment is softwarewise instead of hardwarewise
– software crashes sometimes while initial IPD adjustment (reboot needed)Advantage:
– Almost no screen door effect. In most cases absolutely no screen door effect. That’s WOW!!!
(There is a SDE comparision on YouTube between Gear VR 2.5K and Pimax 4K)
– The image is absolutely fantastic (2.5K 1440p and 4K 2160p in-game resolution powered by Nvidia DSR supersampling – HDMI 1.4b 60hz). Provided you found the right IPD settings for your eyes and the device is not faulty. Wrong IPD settings = looks like cross eyed / blurry.
– Even 2K 1080p looks great but I prefer at least 2.5K due to higher aliasing. Alien Isolation does not need high FPS so I played in 4K in-game resolution for superb graphics.
– The image looks not as good on my FullHD 27 inch monitor but almost!
– I’m able to read text easily.Oct 27, 2016 at 9:41pm #122102In reply to: Vorpx and it´s reputation around internet
tig3rmast3rParticipantIf you see image distortion (“crystal ball effect”) while rotating yor head, the field of view is not set up properly. The actual lens distortion is done for ages by the headset runtimes themselves on perfectly sized render targets with the size and aspect that is suggested by the runtimes. This is true for both Oculus and Vive. None of it works like you assume it works.
thanks for clarification, as i said i’m not a developer so i don’t know how things works exactly, so distortion is done automatically and is just a matter of fov, that’s a good thing…. so basically i’ll be able to eliminate the crystal ball just changing fov value..i’ll test again bioshock infinite.
looking forward to see results…
thanks

RalfKeymasterThere are already profiles for the next vorpX version for both games that take full advantage of the new Direct VR feature including automated FOV adjustment. Also no controller mapping needed anymore for these, you will be able to use the gamepad natively.
Still good that game wise FOV adjustment will also be possible. I just hope these patches don’t break anything, I will check them next week.
The original Bioshock 1 + 2 will still be the clearly better options for vorpX BTW. Both versions look almost identical unless you stand directly in front of a wall to inspect the higher res textures, so there isn’t any real benefit in playing the remasters. The original DX9 versions run quite a bit better with vorpX though since the DX11 remasters require a game specific hack to work at all that slows things down.
Sep 22, 2016 at 12:17pm #111389In reply to: Bioshock Remastered
RalfKeymasterSoon(tm). I can’t be more specific, sorry – which is directly linked to your other question. It doesn’t work with all games automatically, but I’m aiming at 25-30 games for the next update, so that hopefully everyone will find something. Bioshock is definitely among them.
BTW: Short update on the remaster: since the issue with this game
iswas one of those cases that don’t let one sleep at night, incidentally I devoted another day to this just today, and there is good news to share: it will work with the next vorpX. The original will probably still have a performance advantage (haven’t checked yet), but at least the remaster works now in a decent manner with full Geometry 3D. -
