All games are set to 1920×1080 (i used geforce experiance to set all res to 1920×1080) and launched them once after setting them (with out rift)

now i can get them to appear on the rift but no vorpx message (except for gmod)
im launching them all trough steam because if i launch trough the .exe i get random errors generated by steam

If i look cross eyed i can something with mirrors edge
with Bioshock i can get trough the main menu barley and in-game its black.

    my settings

the picture above are my Vorpx settings.

i do have bitdefender and i did turn if off to be sure it wasnt blocking it
    still same problem.

    Dear Ralf,

I’m sorry I have to disturb you again, but it’s still not working…

I know how the menu works, it’s working on every other game I tried (Skyrim, Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite…)

On my monitor I saw 2 images, so everything ok, but the del-Button is not working!

I also saw that there isn’t the usual Vorpx-Beta-Screen under the two images…

Ok after much testing and rebooting and using rift as primary display there is no drastic slowdown on the outdoor scenes. So something was finicky the very first time I tried it out. There is certainly a perceivable difference still with the outdoor scenes but now it more like going from 90fps to 45fps instead of from 60fps to like 15 or less the first time I tried it.

So to make a long story short…Call of Duty Black Ops 1 is as perfect an experience as Bioshock Infinite. Problem is I still prefer the scenarios in COD MW3. But more and more I see Ralph and vorpx being the current savior of the DK2, These polished triple A games are much better than the sparse tech demos we’ve had to live with before.

Now if onlu I can get COD: Ghosts to work! That introductory scene with the space station in 3D? I can’t wait to try it out.

Mad an account to answer this one. Yeah this is an issue with the way the game developer supported 360 input on the PC. The bad news is that it wants you to use either mouse+keyboard or 360 pad. Vorpx uses mouse inputs for head-tracking so when you use a 360 pad it wigs out. Both Thief and Deus Ex: HR have this problem and I do believe they were both made by Eidos. Now this is not all games, plenty do play well with both inputs at the same time like the Crysis and Bioshock series. There is no ini or console command to disable the 360 pad auto-detect within the game and plugging it in after the game has started and using xpadder to map k&m commands to your 360 pad will not work either. Same goes for Vorpx’s own gamepad tool. I spent like 2 days trying to get a work around for both Thief and Deus Ex HR.

THE GOOD NEWS IS that you can use a non xbox360 gamepad and xpadder and control is restored. Newegg.com even has some knock off 360 pads if you want to keep the same joystiq layout for like 10$.

Or you could just go k&m but if you wanted to do that you wouldn’t have asked. Thief does come out to be a glorious experience though once you get it all setup.

thank you for taking the time to answer. That sounds great, tomorrow a friend will lend me his ps3 controller so I will give it a try with that if that works I think I wil order one of your mentioned knockoff gamepads, guess that should take care of my gamepad problems in skyrim as well.
    thanks very much :)

Thank you for everything Ralf. I am loving playing with my DK2 with vorpx. I went through the entirety of Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on my DK1 and it was my best vr experience and I am reinstalling it for uses on the DK2 now.

I spent some time playing bioshock infinite myself…I ended up disabling the dynamic shadows because apparently the game produced different shadows on the left than the right eye making some people and objects look a little wierd. There are still static shadows in the game so it wasn’t too bad.

I thought BIOSHINF was the shit until I tried Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, there are underwater sequences where you take over a sub and then turbulence aboard an airplane…you really need to give it a go. I actually liked it better than BIOSHINF. However it does have some minor display issues like for some reason while looking around you might see a ghost halo effect on the left or right of some objects…the same happens in Mirror’s Edge but the 3D effects are so good they are easily ignorable. Ralf, if you are reading this…will you be customizing COD MW3 and Mirrors Edge at some point so that they will be as good as Bioshock Infinite without those ghost halo outlines appearing around some objects, or is that a problem with the particular game engine?

In most cases yes and it is a wonderful tool but in Thief and Deus Ex HR there is no option to disable the gamepad. If it is plugged in and a button or analog stick is pressed then control shifts to the gamepad. In Thief it makes the screen shake all over the place. In Deus Ex it takes 2 seconds to switch to a different control scheme, If you are using the analog sticks headtracking will stop working while they are pressed and for 2 seconds after releasing them and then headtracking will be restored until you press the sticks again. If there are steps for Thief or Deus Ex to disable the gamepad and use your gamepad emulation with a 360 pad, could you list the steps. Right now I am using a Razer Hydra but would much rather be using a 360 pad.

Sorry for the wall text. This is only an issue with games where the 360 pad is auto-detected without an ingame option to disable it and the game doesn’t play nice with 2 control schemes. So far I only ran into this problem with Thief and Deus Ex. I am sure there will be others discovered though few and far between.

Thank you for everything Ralf. I am loving playing with my DK2 with vorpx. I went through the entirety of Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on my DK1 and it was my best vr experience and I am reinstalling it for uses on the DK2 now.

You could try to create a vorpX Desktop shortcut for the game, which can hook more reliable into some games than the automatic detection.

Right click the vorpX tray icon, choose “Create Desktop Shortcut”, then navigate to the games .EXE and double click it. For games that have a launcher program select the main .EXE not the launcher. This will create a shortcut on your desktop.

Doesn’t work with all games, but with BSI it should.

The BSI .exe is normally located in: [Your Steam Folder]\SteamApps\common\BioShock Infinite\Binaries\Win32

Good idea, should be relatively easy to make the menu scale dependent on the set ImageZoom to a certain degre.

The other option would be to reset the Zoom to default while the vorpX menu is open. One of these will be in the next update.

Probably opt for the former, since right now the image shrinks in realtime as I adjust the zoom smaller.

I have to say right now I think vorpx is the killer app for DK2. With games like COD:MW3 BioshockInf and Skyrim (which I don’t own yet and haven’t tried) it makes the sparsely available tech demos look lame with the possible exception of Elite Dangerous. Hopefully you will get a good list of games working with Geometry 3D. I tried Sega and Sonic all star racing with nvidia 3D vision using the red/cyan glasses and it was a real treat but too much ghosting/crosstalk/coloration issues. Just what is involved in custom “vorpxing” a game like that? Takes a lot of time, in same cases is it even not possible, or is at always possible on a custom support level?

OK, I just checked all three Bioshock games with Windows 8.1 with the current release version of vorpX 0.71 to make extra sure I don’t tell you anything wrong. All three work just fine.

I would really like to help you with your double stereo issue and I will try to replicate the problem, right now I can’t say what might cause this problem for you as it doesen’t happen here.

Just in case: For Bioshock 1+2 did you follow the advice given on the Game Optimizer Page of the vorpX config app? You have to add -dx9 to the launch options in Steam. If you don’t do this, you may a black screen. So maybe that’s the problem in these cases.

Bioshock Infinite works without having to do anything special. You should still take a look at the Game Optimizer entry to set the FOV.

Whenever a game has an entry in the Game Optimizer, you should apply the tweaks mentioned and follow any additional advive given there. Also please make sure that all games are set to 1920×1080 with a DK2 before starting them with vorpX. Any other resolution might cause problems.

If a game doesn’t work otherwise, you should also try to use the Rift as primary display and set vorpX to “Use system settings” display wise. This wasn’t necessary for any of the three games in my case though.

I also have this zoomed in Problem .

I tryed Battlefield 4 and i was so close to the soldier that i only saw a half weapon.

Also i installed bioshock 1 again and wanted to try but its also zoomed in extremly.

i tryed to use the optimized settings but nothing changes if i press F11 ingame . this doesnt change the fov .

Positional tracking doesnt even work on these 2 games and so that doesnt matter how far you sitting from the camera i tryed it by myself

Please make sure to set the FOV to a value around 120°. Doing so will provide a very natural looking image.

vorpX can help you with this in Bioshock using the Game Settings Optimizer in the config app.

If you haven’t done so until now, you definitely should check the documentation, especially the “How to get the most out of vorpX” guide. It has a lot of information about FOV and other things that are of interest when using vorpX.

OK. My problems with VorpX 0.7.1:

    1. I have 4 monitors (including DK2). My DK2 is set as monitor 2 and is situated on the right side of main one. When I set displaying game only to DK2, it display it to monitor number 3. I had to set displaying on monitor 3 to get rendering on DK2 (which is monitor 2).

    2. When I run any of the supported game, in the begining there is no head tracking applying to image, in some cases it works only to move with game cursor. After I press DELL to display VorpX menu, everything works fine. When I close VorpX menu, I have no tracking again. Becasue of this, there is for example no possibility to calibrate IPD when whoe image is moving with my head or I don’t see game menu items, when they are left or right.

    3. I have no 3D effect in games. I tried Bioshock Infinite, Mirrors Edge and Skyrim. I see only 2D image disturbed around me. Tracking is working well but I get flat result.

I checked my setting and they are good according to manual. What can be wrong? Thanks for answer Ralf.
