I’m starting to fear it may be very possible Cyberpunk will indeed require dx12. If it ever actually comes out that is…

Two big new titles Gears 5 and the New Call of Duty are now requiring dx12. Apparently Microsoft will provide a way to port dx12 to windows 7 (to widen the compatibility margin), but it will be 12 all the same. I fear this may be the trend for AAA games going forward into the new generation.

From what I understand, bringing 12 to vorpX will be no easy task and take considerable time, and there haven’t been enough titles to justify it. It might soon be time to start thinking about it though, and hopefully we’ll have heard about possibilities a year from now.

In the mean time, I guess we start praying that next gen games get delayed while we enjoy the vast library we already have :)

Cyberpunk 2077 might be the game that gives Ralf the big enough reason he’s been looking for.

Is it in the works at all? From my understanding newer games like Cyberpunk 2077 would be awesome in VR but they might be incompatible with Vorpx due to not being DX11 titles?

Could you post a link to this interview, please?

“We render our graphics in 3D anyway – of course, the screen itself is flat, but if someone owns a 3D adapter and a pair of VR glasses, they can enjoy rudimentary VR,” said Kiciński.

This sounds really really promising for a VorpX implemtation. :)))))

I’m thinking something Tomb Raider like, where it uses the built in 3D. Being a cinema mode lover myself, this would make my minimum requirements.

Ha! I came here to write a new topic with the title “Ralf, are you excited for Cyberpunk 2077?” – but i see, i’m not the first on the hype train. :)

TW3 is my GGOAT (greatest game of all time), and i tried it in Z3D and it works very very well. I figured that since CP2077 uses a new version of the same engine, it should be easy to make it run in vorpX.

Regarding the API: AFAIK the ray-tracing setting is optional, so i doubt that it will be DX12 only. CDPR, like any business, wants to maximize install base and profits, so i’m quite sure they will include a DX11 path as a minimum.

Ofc, DX12 vorpX support would be a nice thing to have, for compatibility with new games.

I wonder that Witcher 3 being third person and Cyberpunk being first person will create some kind of incompatibility between profiles.

Since Cyberpunk was announced to have Raytracing, it has a chance to be DX12 (or Vulkan) only, which VorpX doesn’t support. Though this is unlikely, it will probably have DX11 support and a similar engine to Witcher 3, which VorpX do support. But if it is DX12 or Vulkan only, this would be a huge incentive for VorpX to add support for one of them.

I’m only about a year too early, but lets get the hype ball rollin. If vorpX supports Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out, I might as well have died and gone to heaven. No pressure.

But seriously, you must keep us notified Ralf if you find out any engine details or such which might point to a “maybe” or a “definitely not” as it get closer. With your usual disclaimer of course. ;)

Havoc is the physics engine those games use.

Wikipedia is a good source for this info if one has a bit previous knowledge of game engines.

The Witcher 2 is 100% RedEngine, so i thought it would be useful to add the entry. It was the very first iteration of this engine, before it was upgraded for The Witcher 3.

A new version of RedEngine is used for Cyberpunk 2077.

If you are new to vorpX, you probably want to hop right into the action instead of learning how to configure vorpX. The list below contains first person games that work with litlle to no configuration in ‘Full VR’ due to vorpX’s DirectVR functionality, which can configure important things like field of view, head tracking or resolution automatically.

For third person games that are usually played best in immersive screen or cinema mode not much configuration is required in general, so this list focuses on first person ‘Full VR’ games that can be a little harder to configure without DirectVR.

If you are stuck, make sure to check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ and the ‘Quick Reference’ in the help. They help you understand a few basic concepts.

    >observer_ is a cyberpunk horror game made by the creators of the Layers of Fear. While it is not a known game, it has very high reviews, it is a hidden gem. You could add -vr at launch settings and it would work for the Rift, but they “fixed” this with a patch. It is a Unreal Engine 4 game, so would it work with vorpX? There are many people in its official steam forums who want VR support for this game, but the developers are silent. It is a great atmospheric game, so I think it would be great if it was one of the official supported games from vorpX. There is also a %50 discount on Steam right now.
