The answer above explains how to disable the auto resolution feature if you really want to. There is no reason to do that though. Just let vorpX do it. Judging from your description everything worked perfectly fine.

Just select a lower “Resolution Quality” in the vorpX menu. The 1680p you apparently selected is too high for Fallout 4.

Using a normal a widescreen res in the Fallout launcher will waste precious GPU power for nothing.

I would highly advise against setting the resolution manually when vorpX can do it. vorpX chooses a 4:3 res for the game on purpose. It always selects best possible aspect ratio for a game that has auto resolution support. Widescreen resolutions are a waste of processing power and should be avoided whenever possible for vorpX.

You probably should select a lower resolution quality in the vorpX menu though. 1680p is borderline even for a 1080ti in Fallout4, 1280p or 1140p are the better choices.

If you still want to disable the vorpX auto resolution for some reason, you can do that either per game in the vorpX menu (Direct VR page) or globally in the config app. There is no reason to do that though, on the contrary. vorpX is aware which resolutions work with a game and which do not and selects the best possible one.

Hi all, I’m new to VorpX, but I’m not new to modding games or altering ini’s. But for the life of me I can’t seem to get FO4 to run in vorpX at a decent res, when I check the prefs file it’s always running at 1680×2242 regardless of what I dial into the games settings, even if I manually change the prefs file res settings they change. Ive been at it for 3 days now and can’t seem to resolve it.
Another thing Ive noticed is scopes don’t zoom, is this a glitch or a result of a FOV issue in relation to the resolution problem?

I’m running Rift on a gtx-1080ti, i7-6700k@4.4ghz, 16gb ram on a gigabyte Z170x G6 mobo so it’s not like I haven’t got the grunt to push the game along in vorpX.
I do have a 16.9 widescreen monitor, but don’t believe it has anything to do with the resolution issue I’m experiencing with FO4.

Any advice would be welcome as Ive become very frustrated with not being able to resolve the problem to say the least.

    Cheers

Option to perform a direct vr scan has disappeared. Alt + L does nothing. Help please. Fallout 4.

I just got Fallout 3 on Steam for very cheap and think it may be a great VR alternative to Fallout 4 |VR| which is way overpriced and has mixed/poor reviews. Have not tried with VorpX yet but will report here when I do. I hope it is working well in current version with Direct VR.
Any suggestions for setup would be appreciated.

(BTW for anyone interested in AMAZING VR fps in this genre I highly recommend Dead Effect 2. Maybe much shorter then Fallout but well worth the price on Steam sale!)

Well, to chime in on Skyrim with vorpx…I have to say that on my system I have it running by far the best considering it’s not designed for VR. Then again, I run Skyrim upscaled to 2880×2160, z-buffer with tweaked in game graphics to get consistent 90fps everywhere (I have almost 200hrs clocked in Skyrim VR to this moment). That said, I also have Skyrim visually modded with about 16 mods to further increase visual fidelity. Remember, Skyrim & Fallout 3 are open world games so there is much more distance in the background to see, which makes things look more pixelated and aliased. Upscaling to 4:3, 4k helps to eliminate this to some extent. On my system, I consider Skyrim the benchmark to beat…considering how far I can push the visual limits with it in vorpx. Btw, there is a mod for the gigantic hands. I don’t use it myself…I just got use to the gigantic hands.

I also have Alien Isolation with the latest mod and Doom 3 BFG VR fully possessed and yes they are very well done…considering their VR capabilities. Remember Alien Isolation was initially designed with VR capability then modded to recognize CV1 with the latest oculus SDK. Doom 3 BFG VR is probably the best VR added game visually to date. Both these games are definitely benchmarks, but to be fair voprx is providing VR to hundreds of games…and to really get the most out of voprx, one needs to experiment with the settings to find the ones personal preference to running it with each game. A new user may find it overwhelming at first to do some tweaking, that’s why Ralf has provided the latest update for us.

The latest vorpx update tries to simplify the process of just running games in VR without any tweaking. It does this quite well, but some of us have brute force systems that can go beyond the maximum auto settings for increased visual fidelity. It will run a game at what it determines to be the best overall experience for the systems capability. That may or may not be what a particular user is expecting though…which then leads to tweaking…if a system has more overhead performance. Don’t expect miracles after tweaking…unless you have HP to burn.

G3D is by far the best visual option in vorpx, but it cuts performance in half to achieve it’s goal. Games will run at 45fps (if system capable) with G3D enabled (unless fluid sync is turned off). To those who are use to 90fps, 120fps, 144fps on a 2D monitor…this can look kind of choppy. VR amplifies this greatly. That is why I myself prefer z-buffer over G3D…as it gets me 90fps for buttery smooth gameplay with a bit of sacrifice to visual 3D depth. After playing a game for a while, you don’t really see the sacrifices you made anyway. You get use to what you see and carry on with playing. It’s the limitation of the present HMD tech we all experience.

To sum it up though, try higher resolutions without AA, z-buffer for 3D for better fps, turn off fluid sync in vorpx in-game menu to get to those extra fps…and spend time tweaking (after turning off vorpx auto settings). If you find yourself screwing something up…just go back to the default settings and start tweaking over again. That’s the joy of getting things to work the way you want. It takes time but can be well worth it.

And yes, your not the only one who has thought vorpx isn’t really doing what you thought it would. It comes down to putting expectations to reality and living with the present technology as the pioneers we are…tweak, tweak and tweak again.

No need to import profiles from the cloud for these games. Please make a factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page) in case you imported an outdated profile from the cloud.

WoW is a third person game, hence it opens in cinema mode, not much point in playing a third person game in full VR mode, especially one that is so interface heavy as WoW. There is a new mode that sits in between cinema mode and full VR immersion wise in this vorpX. Switch the ‘Play Style’ to ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ to try that. Basically that’s cinema mode as immersive as possible.

However, if you want to check how first person games work in full VR mode, I would recommend one of the games below, they work in full VR out of the box.

Good games to start are (in no particular order):

Skyrim (original DX9 version is usually the better choice)
    Fallout 3
    Fallout New Vegas
    Fallout 4
    Portal
    Portal 2
    Left 4 Dead 2
    Mirror’s Edge
    Bioshock (DX9)
    Bioshock 2 (DX9)
    Bioshock Infinite
    Borderlands 2
    Borderlands Pre-Sequel
    Dishonored
    Deus Ex Human Revolutions
    Black Mesa Source
    Half-Life 2
    Half-Life 2 Episode 1
    Half-Life 2 Episode 2
    Aliens Colonial Marines
    Dear Esther (Source engine version)
    The Stanley Parable

Yes, in Fallout 4 the FOV is applied by writing directly into the according memory addresses. Not sure why you would want that, as a wrong FOV causes image distortion, but if you really want to, you can apply a +/-20° offset in the Direct VR menu.

    Hello,
I’ve spent around 12 hours since purchasing VorpX just fiddling with the VorpX settings. This is because none of the games I want to play in VR work.

    I have tried so far:
    – Vanilla Skyrim
    – Skyrim SE (I uninstalled vanilla to see if SE would work, it did not)
    – Fallout 3
    – Fallout 4
    – Portal 2

Most of these titles should automatically open up in VR and run fairly well, providing you follow the correct instructions on how to configure. I am using Steam VR with the Vive.

However, I have followed instructions for each game, and nothing will open up in VR. I configure the profiles, then optimise them for the game I want to play, then I go to my library and open it up. But when I click ‘play’, the game will only open on my desktop, not inside my Vive.

I don’t know why this is. VorpX should convert these games into my headset, but it is not. If I am missing a step, which one is that?

I’ve spent so long trying to get games to work, somebody please tell me what I’m doing wrong here.

    Thank you.

    @vrmax
    I understand this.
Personally, I paid almost 30 dollars aprox, during the first days of release for F4 VR, in a regular external website of keys for Steam.

After this, some well-known friends have come to buy a Fallout VR key, even for quite less. 60 in Steam, however it seems a high price, especially for the owners of the normal version.

There is no need for vorpx if u play FO4VR.Its a vr native game.

Seems like you didn’t read my opening post.

Its nonsense to compare the native FO4 vr controlls with the ones from vorpx,, its just a different game.

No, it’s not. It’s Fallout 4 with a reworked control scheme a new user interface and camera view point. There are reports going on that the VR version has a difference of only 80 MB from the base game.

My final case, Skyrim VR lets you play the game with a DS4 or the Move controller. It’s commonly accepted that the DS4 is the best way to play the game as that is how Skyrim was originally designed.

As with all games, u need to get to used to on how the controlls work unless u remap all keys and controlls to ur liking and use one custom contoll key map for all ur games…. quite a big work though….
BTW is the FO4 VR comparable to the G3D experience vorpx provides?

First, I have a Vive and Fallout 4 VR, and I use the wands and they work awesome! No complaints here at all. Not knocking any other controllers, but they definitely work great in Fallout 4 VR

Second, why would anyone use Vorpx with Fallout 4 VR? Vorpx is for when there “IS NO” true VR support. Vorpx is the best $40 piece of software you can buy for VR – hands down – but this is the specific case to NOT use Vorpx.

Fallout 4 vorpx is better because it has controller support? You know your vive has wands which are vastly superior to gamepads for VR right?

I don’t have a Vive, only an Oculus which isn’t fully supported. But if the game did have full controller support everybody on Oculus could play it now.

As for the Vive wands being better, one of the major complaints with the game is that the controls are bad and that’s with the wands.

Many many people would prefer to use a basic controller for Fallout 4 as the wands don’t really make things any better and introduce more complications.
