Using the built in SBS in mankind divided, I am able to get it working in cinema mode. However, it still looks quite pixelated. Very jagged lines. Also, the FOV is not great, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to increase it.

I started up Rise of the Tomb Raider, and switched it into 3D stereoscopic mode. The image on my monitor is SBS. When I start vorpX, it automatically went into Virtual Game Room mode, with the image in my Vive being 3D now. Great!
But if I turn off the virtual game room mode, and go to image settings, there is a setting allowing you to choose “content type”, and SBS is one of the options. But as soon as I turn off Virtual Game Room, the image in the Vive changes to a splitscreen SBS. Changing the setting to SBS does nothing. The image remains a copy of the splitscreen on the monitor, it does not turn it into a stereo image.

So, is this a bug, or just something I don’t understand? Any info appreciated.

    Hey Ralf (or anyone)
Is there a way to get this working with VorpX and/or steam?
I’ve seen various posts involving SBS view, desktop theatre, vorpx, etc, but I can’t seem to get it working. The instructions were very bad.
    Thx.

What is the purpose of using Vorpx with desktop theatre? What does vorpX bring to it? Can’t you just stream a sbs game through desktop theatre? thx.

Also, your instructions dont make sense. If you add the exe to the excluded list, vorpx won’t run, and therefore you can’t bring up the menu (del) to do anything.

    hello..

i have problems with the instructions, my english is too bad :-)

    1. I have copy the tombraider(2013)-profil, set the Checkbox “keep game-specific options”. with this the game start in vorpx/rift (withou the SBS-Option in the image-settings-tab. But when i add the rottr.exe in the excluded programms, the game didn´t start in vorpx/rift.

    2. In my Steam-Options i have disabled the three checkboxes, within the Steam-Overlay, Big-Picture and the desktop-theater. is that right!?

    3. Tomb Raider Option are the same with the instruction

    4. In the vorpx-settings i don´t have the option “Content-type”, see point 1

I hope my text is half-way right :-) and someone can help me!?

    I use win7 with intel core i7, 32gb ram and a gtx970

    greetings from germany, Patrick

This can be run in stereoscopic mode in Desktop theater.

    1. In configure VORPX ROTTR.exe needs to be added to the Excluded Programs, else it will try to do 3d reconstruction without a Side by side viewing option.

    2. Enable steam overlay and Use desktop theater both need to be disabled in the steam options.

    3. Tombraider options need to be set to fullscreen ON, exclusive fullscreen OFF, Enable Dx12 OFF, Stereoscopic 3D SBS.

    4. Then after launching the game press DEL and in VORPX image settings set content type to SBS.

    OR

    – fire up VirtualDesktop
    – run game in SBS with DX12 bells and all whistles
    – done

    System specs:
    Intel Core i5 4670k
    16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
AMD Radeon R9 270x @ v16.11.3 (but kept happening since ever, long before 16.9)
    Oculus Rift CV1 @ v1.10
    Windows 10 1607 – 14393.447

I’m playing 3D videos in fullscreen on my desktop which i watch in 3D by starting the desktop viewer and enabling the SBS mode. After 15~45 minutes (on the first time) the picture freezes and locks onto screen, then turns to black and when waiting half a minute, oculus home reappears. On the desktop, you see oculus restarting but vorpX must be manually shutdown completely before it works again. This is the best case scenario, in the worst case the PC locks up completely and needs to be hard resettet. Sometimes, you can see unicolored (red, blue, green) artefacts appearing a few frames before the image freezes.

When i restart vorpX after that, the next crash happens way sooner, usually in less than 5 minutes. I would have guessed that my GPU heats up and then starts to fail but vorpX is the only application where i can observe this behavior, for example, i can play eagle flight for 3 hours straight and nothing bad happens.

Anything i can provide for further troubleshooting?

If we could get a development version that doesn’t require an Oculus Rift or specialized equipment so we can just launch, hook, and output directly to the 1080p monitor in SBS 3D mode we can implement our own headtracking in due time once gyro management is sorted out better. Anyone that has this to working with an older version of VORPX in extended mode at all without having the Oculus runtime and hardware installed? – comment/discuss lets get traction.

Is there anyway to get nvidia 3D vision games to display in a virtual 3D desktop mode on the Rift?

What about games such as Trine 3 that even seems to offer native stereoscopic 3D options, including SBS? But which I can’t seem to get working in 3D using virutal desktop, bigscreen, envelop, or any of the others…

I’ve had nvidia 3D vision for years, but there didn’t seem to be anyway to get the games working on the Rift, which is what led me here. Unfortunately as pointed out here, many games require specific fixes to even work in desktop 3D mode…

I was hoping that the Rift would be a perfect display for all of my 3D vision games, but that dream was dashed very early… It’s just a pain to turn on the 3D projector, close all the curtains, and put on my 3D glasses just to play a game for a couple minutes…

i thougth the same when i’ve got the vive, but the quality you get on a monitor with 3dvision is too far from what you get on the current hmd, imho if your goal is only play 3d i would stick with monitor/projector at least until next hmd that hopefully will have doubled resolution..
By the way nvidia is moving on vr too, let’s see what will happen..

vorpX can display side by side 3d content with video player profiles. Never tried this with a game so far, but you could try either the MPC-HC profile (for DX9 games) or the VLC profile (for OpenGL games) as a base. Just make a copy of one of these profiles in the config app and apply your game’s main .exe to this copy.

Provided the hook basically works, you would then be able to selected the content type (Mono/SBS/Over Under) on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu.

No guarantee that this will work, but worth a try.

I don’t really know much about VorpX – had it a few months, but had zero success with any games. I hope the next update will at least get me into Far cry 3.

However, for now I would be really happy just to get some 3D visuals going. I play a lot of 7 Days To Die (VR will be officially supported, but it’s a long way off, yet) and it’s great in 3D using SBS – I used TriDef trial to play. But that program messes with games you don’t want it to – if I could get VorpX to give me an SBS output that I can use Virtual Desktop to see in 3D in my Rift, I’d be a happy bunny.

I gave up on it. I guess we need proper support to get it working.

On a sidenote: I ended up running Virtual Desktop through steamVR in SBS mode, and running BoS through virtual desktops Games tab, with or_enabled in the BoS config. This gave me proper 3D and working headtracking in the Rift.

But turning the head in game results in horrible lag, even at lowest setting, and the eye placement seemed a bit off no matter what I did. Success, sort of:-p

Try it in the Vive if you can. Maybe it works better. Running the game in extended mode, through a program that is again run through SteamVR, via the Rift did not go well with my system:p

I have asked this question without getting a response.

    PCSX2 Issues

But I was proactive and ported a long outdated stereoscopic plugin to the latest version of PCSX2.

    http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Gsdx-3D-Stereoscopy-Patch?pid=522990#pid522990

It works perfectly with Virtual Desktop in Half-SBS mode using the Home Theater environment to reduce the chance of motion sickness.
