    Hello

I tried now Skyrim and unsupported game inMomentum and both of them handled thing same way. My Rift is extended mode. If I set display mode “Show only on rift dk2” game start correctly and orientation trackin is working etc… buuuut in my main screen. If I use “Show only on [my main display name]” game is going to Rift but it crash, with skyrim error is “Failed to initialize renderer. Unknown error creating the renderer”. I cannot test clone mode since my current my display is not supporting 1080p. If I set rift as main display “show only dk2” will crash since it tries to set my monitors display mode to 1080p. “Show only [main display, or more like secondary in this case]” leads to same “Failed initialize renderer…”.

Is the camera active (blue light)? Also please reset the Skyrim profile in the vorpX config app, maybe you have accidentally disabled the positional tracking.

Currently I can’t think of any other reason that may cause this, but I will investigate.

@ johnb: Thanks for posting the image, At least I can understand the issue now. Not sure at all though what might cause this. When set to portrait in Windows the image should appear in landscape orientation (hope that makes sense). If I undefstand you correctly, in your case the display is landscape, but the rendered image is rotated by 90deg. Very odd. Can you please send me a description of your PC hardware and a dxdiag.txt to support |at| vorpx com? Maybe this is an issue with certain graphics cards/drivers. You can create a dxdiag.txt with the dxdiag tool in Windows.

At least in Skyrim using Direct to HMD mode might be a workaround. That is not officially supported by vorpX, but should work in a few games, among them Skyrim.

@ marek: Please follow the advice given in the first vorpX window that appears when you start Skyrim. The FOV has to be set to value around 120, otherwise the image is zoomed in. You can make the 3D effect stronger in the vorpX ingame menu if you think it’s to weak. Just be aware that this also alters the sense of scale.

Not sure what may cause your shadow issues, will look into it.

Headtracking Sensitivity has to be adjusted to your mouse sensitivity once per game. This can be done in the vorpX ingame menu (input page)

You can exclude VLC Player from vorpX by adding it to the exclude list in the vorpX config app.

You can disable the UI in Skyrim completely by changing its transparency in the game options for maximum immersion.

So, the video is self explanatory:

So, as you can see, both VorpX and Windows (sometimes the blue loading circle, sometimes the regular white arrow) cursors appear in the game no matter what. I’ve tried a lot of configurations (Primary monitor, secondary, Rift as the only display…) but so far no luck. Pressing Shift + left/right arrow doesn’t solve the problem neither.

Oh, and by the way, is there any way to disable the head tracking cursor movement in the desktop?

    Any help? Thanks!

Excellent, thank you Ralf, that tip worked perfectly.

Don’t know if using right shift also works or not, but I loaded up the game, held left shift, and just lightly pressed space and it cleared the window. now to read up on trying to get head positional tracking to work so I can pretend like im peeking around corners and we’ve just about got it made in the shade with lemonade!

The only other thing I would like to know, is if one can separate the head looking around from body turning (the mouse does that anyways). This looks fine when your not in a VR experience, but would be more immersive if you could.

“In the Skyrim world, your arms grow where your ears should be HAHahaha!”

Thank you to everyone in advance for any information. Have an awesome day!.

I cannot get head positional tracking on the DK2 working with Skyrim. None. I’ve tried changing a bunch of the vorpX settings like 3D geometry and Z-buffer. Tried changing mouse settings and controller settings on Skyrim. Nothing works.

@ jwvanderbeck : Try reinstalling Skyrim. The game is running for such a long time with vorpX on so many machines that it’s relatively safe to say that there isn’t a general issue with this game and vorpX.

You can also try to do a factory reset in the vorpX config app, in case you have messed with settings a lot.

And last but not least: Check whether you are using an Oculus profile in the vorpX config app. This is buggy currently (see the above sticky).

I was using an Oculus profile. I’ll try again tomorrow without one.

I was most interested in driving games, so I started with Dirt 3

No head tracking at all in the cockpit view.

    Skyrim,

Works. But I am playing vanilla Skyrim with no FOV adjustments. It looks like everybody is in your face. But at least the tracking works. Positional tracking works but is VERY subtle.

Ralf: I am hoping that you can help me here is what my problem seems to be. I deleted my Skyrim and other games so that I was sure to have a fresh copy of Skyrim Battlefield 4 and Wow. I set the DK2 To Portrait mode and boot the game. It boots find and head tracking moves my mouse like it is supposed to. That said the problem is nothing is centered. If I turn off my dk2 I can see the game on my other monitors so I can try to describe what I am seeing. The tops of the windows are blank and the game is running close to the bottom. If I boot the Dk2 back up and look again all I see is the very sides of the screen. Please help!

Got it working well with Skyrim, and managed to have the DEL key bring up the config menu. However, the shadows ingame are still not showing up even though they are set in the ini file, so I tried setting defered shadows to 0 which you suggested, but it didnt work.
But if I start Skyrim normaly on my monitor after disabling Vorpx, the shadows come back no problems and display correctly ingame. Im pretty sure my Skyrim install is not the cause. tried with and without mods.. No luck..Suggestions..?
    Im out of ideas…

How on earth did you get DayZ to run? A profile for that was included some time ago, but after a recent DayZ patch I can’t get it to work anymore. Did you do anything special or did it just work?

Direct Mode is not officially supported by vorpX currently. Skyrim however, should work without anything special to do, at least it does here. Just make sure the resolution is set to 1920×1080. But this really is absolutely not supported currently.

Direct Mode is complicated in a driver like vorpX since the Oculus runtime also “hooks” into games.

Skyrim is a very taxing game, and rendering everything twice doesn’t exactly help. Outside it is very hard to get 60fps in Geometry 3D even with a high end machine. Not much vorpX can do about that. Try to lower the graphics settings in Skyrim until you get an acceptable result, also please try a install without any mods in case of problems.

For shadows you might have to set bDeferredShadows=0 in the Graphics section of your skyrimprefs.ini. vorpX tries to enable shadows without this fix, but maybe that fails on your PC for some reason.

Geometry 3D is on per default im Skyrim. Not sure why pressing delete doesn’t do anything for you unfortunately. Normally [DEL] opens the ingame menu, which allows you to change the game configuration. There is an entry called “3D-Reconstruction” which should read “Geometry 3D”. In that menu you can also make the 3D effect stronger if you wish to. Although it should look pretty natural with the default setting.

I got Skyrim working pretty easily enough, but I see no shadows or evidence of G3D rendering or anyway to confirm if its running. Someone mentioned hitting Del, but that did nothing. I see no shadows in my game but they are clearly set in the skyrim ini file. How can we tell if geometry rending is on.?
Vorpx also runs pretty choppy on my Rig which is a I74470K, GTX 780, and 16GB Hyperx Ram. Running Skyrim on my monitor I get over 100fps with a load of mods, but not using Vorpx..
