Updates are handled fully automatically.
No new activation code after updating of course.
Hi Ralf,
how will you handle updates?
Will we need to download a new setup?
Or is there an update function?
Is a new activation code needed after each update?
Thank you
Those Bioshock Infinite reports make me really sad. Its such beautiful game with the Rift. Unfortunately I’m not able to reproduce something like this and for others who posted here it seems to work fine too. Such things are hard to track down… Might this somehow be location dependent? Maybe someone can provide me with a savegame. Might be a long shot, but is worth a try.
Thanks, your genuinely expressed sadness for your product not functioning on our machines is at least appreciated. But, your sadness aside, having not seen any updates here for a possible future fix, is that kind of the end of the line then? Is a fix no longer being pursued?
In my case, I hadn’t tinkered at all with my machine prior, (it’s only a few months old) and everything was working without vorpX installed. Since installing, I’ve tried everything suggested here, but nothing’s preventing vorpX from it’s thus far unfailing track record for crashing Bioshock Inf. without exception.
So, would you suggest those for whom vorpX is non-functioning by this point, just go ahead, throw up our hands and gracefully accept the unfortunate technical reality that we don’t get to use this purchase… and then start your refund process?
Ok thanks. Yeah guilty as charged, Vista 64 here! I figured that was the problem. Luckily, I was planning to upgrade in a couple days anyway so not a problem at all :-)
When I upgrade will that affect my product license or will I need to update that?
Thanks for the reply.
Hi Ralf,
there seem to be some problems with mycommerce.com, if I try to buy it with either a credit card or PayPal I get the following error from them:
Dear Customer,
We were unable to verify that the information you entered on the order form is valid.
If you have not received notification within 24 hours, please contact our customer service department for assistance.
Which is obviously bullshit, at least PayPal should work.
The email address thy give you to contact does NOT work:
“verify@mycommerce.com”: SMTP error from remote server after RCPT command: host: smtp.wip.digitalrivercontent.net
5.1.0 Address rejected.
I contacted them through a contact formular a few hours ago but they didn’t answer me yet.
Did some research and it seems this is a common problem with mycommerce.com.
My reddit post regarding this got some upvotes, so I am asuming I’m not the only one with this problem.
I am really excited for vorpX and would be happy if you could either sort this out with mycommerce.com or prvide alternate means of purchasing.
I’ll keep you updated if I get a response from mycommerce.
Is there a way to sign up for email update and announcement notifications?
If not, Ralf, just respond to this topic and at least I’ll get one as well as anyone who chimes in on this topic with “Notify me…” checked. :-)
I wish there was a way with WordPress to get notifications of additions to a topic without making a comment in it. Then you could create a sticky thread that only you could post to but anyone could subscribe to for notifications.
The blog has been updated
well yeah i understand that you have a job fine. but then again thats more the reason to release the thing now as a beta. you could earn some extra money and then just take it as you go. but whatever. what gets me is just that the fact you havent bothered to commmicate and provided any blog posts or any real updates in months i mean at the very least you could post a video once in a while of your progress you know? i didnt mean to be overly rude (and for the other guy so your saying you woudnt want a person to buy your product who was rude to you. online.thats stupid money is money if you take it so personal thats your problem)
it would just be nice to hear more updates or some sort of timeline. and i just wish youd go ahead and release the beta to those who wish to be “early adopters” its like what a lot of devs are doing these days, with kickstarter and things like star citizen. i honestly think thats a much better way to do a project anyways ….expecally if you are more transparent and at least try to provide good status updates too. just leaving everyone in the dark on things just is really frustrating.
but i really think you should release the beta for those who want to pay early that will releave some pressure as you have the beta out for users and can just take more time to work at it at your own pace while earning a bit of money from it. or at least give us a reason for such a long delay when you said it would be out shortly after rifts started shipping..
but whatever. i guess it comes when it comes. didnt mean to be overly rude but its just frustrating because we are all sitting her wondering whats really going on with VorpX.
i think a few more updates or somethng would at least help.. updating your blog even just once a month would be better then nothing.
..and even when Ralf posts a reply, you spew the same old text. Can you not just leave it now?.
I can imagine Ralf bows to pressure and releases it in it’s current state and then you cant get a game working properly because people have different OS’s, GPUs, mem etc etc…you’d be here every day again moaning about when the next update is coming.
I really wish you’d think about these things a bit more rationally.
For the record, I have had a retail shop for 18 years..and money certainly isn’t money. I’d refuse to sell something to someone that had the tone you have..and I have done and will continue to do so.
Maybe you don’t read over what you write but regardless of your intention, you are simply rude.
Hi Ralf,
thanks for info – with some understanding of current dev situation it’s easier to wait for your release.
Nevertheless, have to agree: some blogged status update from time to time could limit the complaints and calm the roaring mob ;)
The idea of a beta/early adopter release is nice – of course the driver has to be mature enough. Although preview tests of VorpX like that in the C’t sounded very near to this …

Ralf: thank you for showing up!
Most of us probably understand that you have your private life, and your priorities. I personally would like to ask you (and I’m sure many of us thinks the same way) if you could post weekly updates at least, even if you you didn’t find time to work on Vorpx. Just let us know, please, that things are still on track.
It really doesn’t take much time to drop a few lines, and there are many of us, who are waiting eagerly. Thanks!
I’m going to toss this quote in from the FAQ:
—————————————————————————-
“When will it be available?”
“No exact date has been set yet, but a first release should be available not too long after the Rift devkit arrives. vorpX is developed with a taped together prototype, similar to the official Rift prototypes you may have seen in videos, but some things have to be adjusted for the real thing once it is available.”
—————————————————————————-
Ralph, if you even read these forums at all anymore, you still have this posted, yet we know you got your Rift kit months ago. An explanation and update is in order.
I’m perfectly willing to listen if Ralph want’s to tell us what is going on, but the sudden blackout timed right after a beta teaser preview and starting right when he apparently got his rift is really bad customer relations.
Believe me, I understand busy… but if you are the one and only guy behind a site/product like this you should at least take five minutes a week to give an update to the thousands of waiting customers.
Please let us know WHY we aren’t hearing anything.
As far as it not being vaporware because we know there is a working BETA, well if the driver is never released it’s still vaporware, and as Mr. Geddings not-so-tactfully pointed out, whatever Ralph is doing right now he is very likely passing up his window of opportunity. If someone with a lot more resources like Tridef beats him to the punch he will likely never get a return on all the time and effort he has invested in this project.
Personally I wouldn’t let you an inch within any of my software if you had that attitude towards me.
I am going to make the guess that you are either very young (< 17) or that you suffer from some form of autistic spectrum disorder or the like, because your attitude here is truly nothing more than childish and trite.
Just because you feel like Ralph is purposely holding out on you, doesn’t mean he is; and again, you are acting foolish to be screaming for a product that by all means could hold off on a release until the consumer version of the Rift is out.
I do think the Man owes us an update though. Here’s hoping he’s ok.
No update since April = Project dead. Don’t worry, others will capitalise on the Rift soon enough anyway and this guy will miss out…. I know of another team working on a similar driver albeit better (and likely free, and no it’s not Vireo!).
