BoblekoboldParticipantThis may help you :
Renaming .exe from Steam Game to try an custom profile when there is already one
If you simply need to launch a game without using official profile, just rename executable.
BoblekoboldParticipantStandard Edition is offered when you buy Enhanced Edition on Steam, but you have to download/install it separately, as if it was another game. I don’t think you can properly transfer savegames (or not completely, and not inside levels), but I think they are identical.
Both have all DLC and new game+ options.
The differences are in lighting, colors, blur effect (and some rare models/textures).
BoblekoboldParticipantAs Ralf said, it’s easier to use official profile, which is automated if you don’t know how to configure, and is the most immersive/impressive one in some situations, especially when you have big ennemies close to you, but remember you can’t launch official profile without using both Standard Edition and ingame DX11 option.
So if you want raytracing, which require DX12, you’ll have to configure manually as explained (which isn’t really hard in this game on most headsets).
And there is raytracing in Standard Edition (often better than Enhanced in my opinion). You can’t disable raytracing in Enhanced edition because lighting is based on it. Standard Edition has both good dynamic lighting and optional raytracing in addition.
Concerning Performances with ultra graphics option, high FOV and resolution (and “phenomenal” textures in VorpX) :
1) Official Profile with Standard Edition DX11 and Z3D (I have visual glitches on eyes with this one) is the less demanding (or no 3D at all if you don’t need it).
2) Official Profile with Standard Edition DX11 in G3D is a native-like experience, very impressive, and you should at least try it indoors if you like 3D (Spiders Level especially). And it’s the more demanding with max settings because of G3D (but it’s less demanding if you turn off G3D shadows in VorpX ingame menu, which are beautiful indoors with “Auto” setting, but are demanding).
3) Cloud profile (“Ennchanted”) with Standard Edition DX12 with light Z3D and ultra raytracing (no DLSS), works very well, and is a lot less demanding than Official G3D. It’s not a perfect native like experience because it’s not G3D, but it’s the most beautiful option in my opinion, at least in the Volga, Moscow and train.
4) Cloud profile (“Ennchanted”) with Enhanced Edition DX12 (raytracing can’t be disable with this option) is more demanding, and not as beautiful as standard raytracing in my opinion, but probably less demanding than G3D I think (in term of framerate). But it may not always be as smooth as other options. So best performance (with max settings) are : 1 then 3 then 4 then 2.
Maybe the performance ranking is different if you let G3D shadow disabled (in this case G3D is less demanding) or if you use DirectVR Scan and let default VorpX option (which are less demanding than what I used). It may vary with game environments as well (indoors / outdoors, lighting, etc.)
You’ll probably have to disable G3D shadows if you use G3D outdoors (because of visual glitches).
Most beautiful is 3 and most impressive/VR (native-like) is 2.
I mainly played with 3 (especially outdoors and train) in full VR and immersive sceen, and some indoors levels with 2 in full VR.
I would recommand to do that if you have a good computer, a displayport headset, and if you like VorpX converted games even when it’s somewhere between flat and VR and want the most beautiful graphics (or only option 3 if you don’t care about 3D).
Immersive screen properly configured (high FOV, 4:3 resolution and vertical curvature) is sometimes better in my opinion than full VR during cutscenes, when manoeuvring boat, looking at very beautiful places, etc.If you only like native VR like games, choose 2 (in full VR), especially if you don’t know how to configure.
BoblekoboldParticipantConcerning FOV in standard edition :
If you use the Steam Version, you may need to delete Exodus “remote” steam folder if you have it because it can interfere with your modifications in “Saved Games” folder (so you won’t be able to really change FOV).A good way to know if you managed to modify FOV value is : you should see most of the horizontal part of the yellow pipe at the right in the main menu, even in 4:3.
Or simply : game scale is perfect (not zoomed in) and you can look arround you like if it was a native game.
90 FOV is the max in Standard Edition, but I managed to put another value with Hex editor (it appeared to be almost useless with most current headsets given 90 is enough).
Enhanced Edition has this mod for FOV :
https://www.nexusmods.com/metroexodus/mods/62
You can easily modify the script to get any FOV you want but keep in mind it’s vertical FOV, so 100 is already a lot (90 vertical = 120 horizontal in 4:3).And if you need uncommon ratio (some headset may not be 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, etc.) :
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2705127786
You shouldn’t need this if you use a Quest 3, G2, Aero, etc. but maybe with a Crystal Light or else ? I don’t know…
BoblekoboldParticipantVirtual Monitor is in VorpX V24 and V23 I think. Not really sure about what is Beta or not now.
BoblekoboldParticipantThe resolution must have the same ratio as your headset (at least in full VR).
What is your headset ?
Usually, it’s 4:3 in Quest 3 and Reverb G2. The cutscenes in this game are probably designed for 16:9 but when you raise FOV to max, you can see everything you should horizontally, and more verticaly (you can always switch to 16:9 and immersive screen during cutscenes with high FOV in addition if you want to see even more than in flat). You can launch VorpX Desktop Viewer instead of VorpX in order to use Virtual Monitor (this way you have any resolution you want, but this game has a special ratio system, so, if you play in 4:3 for example, using Pixel 1:1 in VorpX, you should set aspect ratio to 4:3 in Exodus video options, under resolution).
1080p can be enough for cinema mode with Clarity FX in some games, but 2.7k is the minimum usually, to take your entire field of view in immersive screen and get good results, and 4k (2880×2160 in 4:3) is the minimum to play full VR (it’s still a little blurry, but not much).
I would recommand 2880p (3840×2880 in 4:3) at least in this game, given textures are very detailed, and it keeps getting better in 3200 and 3840p if you have a good displayport headset like G2, especially in full VR (but even in immersive screen, which is always a little more detailed in this game I think, given the textures). If you use a Quest 3, you’ll have to deal with compression first…so it would probably not be very useful to go that high.
BoblekoboldParticipantIn addition, Standard Edition doesn’t have the nearly constant Depht of Field wich blurs most of your field of view and prevents you to look at long distances in some situations (neither the too close fog).
These problems are in the flat “Enhanced” game, but you can see them even more clearly in VR.Maybe the end of the game is better. I didn’t reach that point, but most beautiful levels are at the beginning of the game.
Colors are more natural too in Standard and dark area looks better. Raytracing works better in these cases. I tried both, and I liked both, but I chose Standard one and I don’t regret it.
Anyway, most of the time, the most optimized games are the most beautiful in VR.
So old versions almost always looks better, even with an RTX4090.
BoblekoboldParticipantIt seems OpenXR Toolkit isn’t supported anymore. Is it save to use with a Reverb G2 ? (Knowing current WMR problems)
Does it really improve image quality ?
BoblekoboldParticipantThere is also a direct shortcut option, but I don’t think it’s compatible with Virtual Monitor when needed.
I have some problems too since I switched to V24 (and sometimes Virtual Monitor doesn’t hook, but It may be just me, because I tweaked some things ?)
I think Ralf said to not do that (so maybe don’t), but you can simply restart VorpX Service instead of your computer. I works for me.Concerning framerate, the information must be somewhere on the forum. Did you see you have options to cap framerate ? And sync options like Judder Protect ?
It has an impact on framerates.I think VorpX don’t need the game to reach high framerate to feel smooth because of this double framerate mechanics.
BoblekoboldParticipantYes it works with “Metro Exodus Ennchanted” Cloud Profile.
But if you want to play with raytracing and Z3D, I think you should use this profile with Metro Exodus Standard Edition (just rename the executable anyway if you don’t use the official profile, there is a Steam command if you have the Steam version).
It will allow you to switch to G3D when you want (which worth it in Spiders and Cannibals Levels) simply by choosing DX11 and launching your old executable.
And Standard Edition is a lot more optimized and even beautiful, at least in Volga, Moscow and the train. So it’s better when it’s important…
Change FOV in user.cfg (90 is great for immersive screen and full VR G3D, you may prefer 75 to 82 in full VR Z3D).
Z3D isn’t really powerful with this profile but graphics are stunning (you can reach 5120×3840 resolution with RTX4090 and Reverb G2, with Clarity FX on the top, and Sharpness if you like, it’s very crisp).

BoblekoboldParticipantYou can simply use this Steam command to rename game executable :
https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/11xwfjy/change_the_exe_name_of_any_steam_game_very_useful/I used it on Metro Exodus Standard Edition in order to use a DX12/Raytracing cloud profile (“Ennchanted”).
It works !
BoblekoboldParticipantI’m currently playing Atomic Heart. 110 FOV is Ok in my Reverb G2. I’m used to a little more too but It’s probably the right FOV.
I would recommand to set at least the resolution you want in Virtual Monitor before launching the game. There is a FOV slider ingame, so it’s really easy to configure (it takes 30s).
This game works really well with an RTX4090 with 3840×2880 resolution (so not as sharp as Metro Exodus Standard Edition, which is more optimized and beautiful). HUD resize / offset could have been useful (for subtitles at least, because HUD is not really needed otherwise).
Z3D is very impressive in this game. I find it sharper with 3D strenght at 0 but when you raise it, it really works, almost like G3D. There are some artefacts in cutscenes sometimes if 3D strenght is too high (you just have to lower it temporarily).
I tried UEVR too (and it runs smoothly) but I prefer VorpX on this game, like usual, especially to play the entire game (I could not with UEVR, even if it’s impressive too with this game, especially during cutscenes). Animations are cleaner in VorpX, image is sharper/clearer, especially at medium/long distance.
UEVR has good HUD, free camera rotations during cutscenes and impressive G3D (which allow you to understand more easily fighting cutscenes) but not very comfortable, especially when you’re swimming in polymer (and with flat fire effects, etc.) compared to VorpX 3D, and there are some really annoying glare effects you don’t have in VorpX.
And raytracing works with VorpX (and FOV seems narrower in UEVR).
BoblekoboldParticipantVery interresting thank you !
I would like to try on my reverb G2. It’s not like OpenXR tool from Microsoft Store I guess. So I must download OpenXR ToolKit here ? :
https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/#setup
BoblekoboldParticipantVirtual Monitor is really useful. With Quest 3 and Reverb G2, it also helps you to get 4:3 resolution.
Most useful resolutions are already predefined (I just had to add a 4:3 3200p resolution).
On Reverb G2, Metro Exodus works with 2880p, 3200p and even 3840p (5120×3840) resolution (at least in Z3D) with an RTX4090 ! With ultra raytracing and no DLSS (with Cloud Profile Ennchanted Edition and renamed excecutable). Even official G3D allow very high resolutions (especially if you turn off G3D shadow in VorpX). You can play fullscreen and adjust ratio in game video settings in this particular game.
Metro Last Light Redux (in G3D) is less optimized and 2880×2160 is already high resolution on RTX4090.
Metro 2033 original can reach easily 2880p in DX9 G3D (but if you go too high, your’ll have some glitches, 3D should be perfect in this game, which is like perfect native).
Bioshock 2 reach stable 90fps at 2880p G3D but you can’t really go above because it could crash. It’s still one of the best looking native like VR games.
Bioshock Infinite handle very high resolutions (more than 2880p, even on a GTX1080) and you don’t even need Virtual Monitor because windowed mode allow you to use any resolution/ratio you want !
I’m currently playing Atomic Heart and 2880p is smooth. 3840p works but it’s harder to fight.
Immersive screen seems sharper to me. You need higher resolution in full VR.
Of course with non 4:3 headset, you’ll have more megapixels, so 4:3 is better I think.
BoblekoboldParticipantOne of my favorite vorpx adaptations
Really ? Sometimes VorpX make things a lot better.
I would have loved loving it, but…it wasn’t as good as expected when I played it in flat. I prefered AVP2.
Alien Versus Predator 1&2 would have been mad with VorpX (walking on the wall/ceiling with alien, etc.)
There is an RJK_ profile for AVP2 (not G3D sadly). Maybe I’ll try it one day…
