Sigh. Dragon Age Origins is still randomly crashing after 10-15 minutes. Other than that no problems so far. Really appreciate this update.

Great work, Ralf! Have just tested the update for 30 minutes myself with The Sims 3 (Anna profile) and Sims 4 and everything ran flawlessly. This is a huge update for me as a G2 user (due to the OpenXR implementation). Alt-tabbing works again as well finally.

When I return home later I will give it another try. Usually I had no problems with vorpx, however, for whatever reason Dragon Age Origins (Steam) kept always crashing after 10-15 minutes of gameplay. I wonder if that has been fixed too. Anyway: Thanks again!

Unfortunately I didn’t try to reset the settings. My bad. Next time I will give it a try before requesting a new kew (hence reinstalling the software).

Thanks for your reply @steph12 .

Thanks Ralf. I really underestimated how hardware-demanding GTA V would be eventually (or rather G3D in general). Anyway: I now settled with Z-Normal and a balanced mixture of low/medium settings and thus it runs fine + looks not half as bad. Same applies to some other games which I tried (Kingdom come is simply gorgeous with Z-Normal during in-engine cut-scenes). Very happy so far.

The profile is already there and it has perfect G3D, it was added some time after I created this topic, check your supported games list, it comes with VorpX.

Thank you for letting me know. In fact, after I realized that vorpx supported Sims 4 (in stereoscopic 3D) I had to buy it a second time. And I am glad I did as I am so happy with the result. Have been playing for 6 hours now in immersive cinema mode and it’s even better than I imagined.

Again: Thank you so much Ralf for your work. This means a lot to me.

Man, Sims 4 has become such a huge game with almost unlimited possibilities with all its dlc and mods. A “real” (G3D) Profile would make a dream come true.

    Hi HalloMolli,

I just got vorpX yesterday and spent all night getting the original Skyrim working and I’ve finally narrowed it down to these steps:

    One time setup:
    1. Restore factory defaults for Skyrim profile.
    2. Run the Game Settings Optimizer for Skyrim.

    Each time you play:
    1. Start vorpx (not desktop)
    2. Start Skyrim.
    3. Make sure Gamepad override is set to full before you scan.
    4. Scan using ALT-L.
    5. Set Gamepad override to off.

I’m using an Xbox controller. If you use the mouse/keyboard, you may not need to worry about toggling the Gamepad override. I will say that if the Gamepad override is on when you scan, it will lock the world to your head movement which is undesirable and will make you feel sick. When everything is setup correctly, looking around will seem natural and will not be locked to the world view. I hope this makes sense. On the lowest graphic setting, I get about 90 FPS in Geometry mode. It drops to about 45 FPS on the highest setting. I get better performance in Z-Buffer mode, but there are glitched bars on the right and bottom of the view that I can’t seem to remove.

    Hope this helps!

    Peace \/

Wow, thank you so much for your helpful advice! As soon as I return home I’ll give it a try! And yeah, I use an Xbox Controller as well. =)

Well, it’s me again. I was playing Skyrim for 2 hours fine today in the morning, it was really a pleasure (granded, graphics suck but still…). Had to settle down with medium graphics but the game ran fine (average 45~ fps). I played in Cinema mode with the display in the nearest position possible, even headtracking was working (~180°).

Then I had to stop for 6 hours, came back home, started steamVR, vorpx and eventually skyrim. To my surprise the game looked so much worse than before + the Direct VR Scan failed almost all the time + in Cinema mode the headtracking stopped working + my fps are much worse now.

I have no idea how all of this could happen. Nothing has changed since today morning. I restarted my PC, made a factory reset (vorpx) and even tried to Play on “low” Settings (it helped a Little bit with the fps but the grahic Quality is so bad, you can see every Pixel and it still runs bad).

Anybody has a suggestion? How could it break after 6 hours on its own :( .

You can change the resolution in the game, just like you normally would do when you play the game on your monitor. In Skyrim that can be done in the Skyrim launcher.

Might make sense to choose a windowed resolution in the launcher, that will allow you to choose higher resolution than your monitor can display.

4:3/5:4 resolutions are best for vorpX, not widescreen resolutions!

Alright, thank you. It worked fine now, I got sick again but that’s probably because I am still not used to VR. Will try out the Cinema mode, maybe that works better!

Hi! Thanks for your fast Reply! This might Sound stupid but where exactly do I Change the resoulution? In Windows? Geforce experience? Ingame? In the game .ini?

And to behonest, I didn’t touch anything there. I just started the Viewer, then skyrim (to start a fresh save file) AND then was the plan to look for certain Settings I can use to optimize the game. But since Skyrim decided to boot in VR I was fine with it. The only Thing I did was to run The scan and to toggle the invert x- and y-axis Settings. Anyway, will give it another try as soon as I find out how to Change the Resolution (at least in the Skyrim menu I couldn’t find the numbers you are suggesting; Edit: 1280×1024 is there acutally)! Thanks again!

I am looking for a tool where I just push a “start” button and it runs fine by itself.

I’ve heard you have to reduce the graphical ‘fidelity’ to a medium Setting in Skyrim for it to become playable via vorpx in VR. And I can only Play the game with a ton of mods loaded

If I summarize, you’re both lazy and picky with video games (not a criticism). VorpX is not for you then, you’d most likely end up frustrated.

Yeah, I guess so. Regarding Skyrim: I’ve been playing the game since its release and my steam account Shows that i’ve spent almost 1000 hours in skyrim. If you are used to graphical mods since over 4 years now you can’t go back, at least I can’t.

But I appreciate your honesty. It’s a bummer that vorpx 3 does not provide stereoscopical 3D for Witcher 3 (since it has by far the most beautiful and immersive game world I have seen in a Videogame to this date) :( .

vorpX does a lot more. I.e. providing Stereo 3D and head tracking. In case of Witcher 3 it’s a 3D effect that is applied after rendering the game, so it’s not as pronounced as the 3D effect in native apps. Life is Strange has full Geometry 3D, which means the scene is rendered twice like in native apps. You can also move the “screen” very close to you, so that it fully fills the view to enhance immersion.

You can have fun with with these two games and vorpX, but you should be aware that they don’t belong to the games where vorpX really shines.

The best games for vorpX, especially in regard to easy configuration, are the ones with the new Direct VR feature, currently that includes: Fallout 4, Skyrim, Skyrim Special Edition, Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, Borderlands 2, Bishock (original), Bioshock 2 (original), Bioshock Infinite, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Black Mesa Source.

Thank you for your Reply again, Ralf, that’s very useful Information. Unfortunately the only games I find somewhat appealing are Skyrim and Fallout 4. But Fallout 4 will get a native VR-Support anyways (soon) and from what I’ve heard you have to reduce the graphical ‘fidelity’ to a medium Setting in Skyrim for it to become playable via vorpx in VR. And I can only Play the game with a ton of mods loaded so I am afraid it won’t be a pleasent experience playing it in VR (–> due to low fps), I guess.

    Allow me two last questions:

    1) What’s the difference between the 3D effect in Witcher 3 compared to a, say, native 3D effect. Yes, I get it, it’s not as significant as you’d expect but is it still, well, enjoyable enough to settle down with the low Resolution of the game (I know, it’s a very subjective question…)?

    2) I suppose that I will have to work myself through the Settings of vorpx to make Witcher 3 work in VR, yes? So am I right in assuming that it won’t be something like: Load vorpx –> ‘bind’ it with witcher 3 –> push ‘Play in VR’-button in vorpx –> enjoy Witcher 3 in VR?

(note: I read some of your patch notes from the newest update of vorpx and the easy functionality you’ve just untroduced does not apply to Witcher, correct?)

Huh, I can’t edit my post anymore? Well, I just wanted to add that I’ve just found a first Person mod for Witcher 3 :P .

Both games are third person games, so they aren’t exactly perfect showcases for what vorpX can do. If these are the only two games that you have in mind for playing with vorpX, you should be aware of that.

Per default vorpX shows most third person games on a huge screen in front of you, including the two you mentioned. While you can disable that, vorpX can not convert a third person game into a fully immersive first person VR experience. A third person game stays a third person game.

Games that are better suited for a fully immersive experience with vorpX are first person games like Skyrim for example.

Hey Ralf, indeed, I am mainly interested in those two games and I am very well Aware of the fact that they are third Person games. It does not bother me at all.

What I meant with immerse myself into the world is that I don’t want to be reminded all the time that I am just sitting in a Cinema looking at a gigantic Screen on which a very low res game is displayed. I want to put myself as Close as possible into both worlds. To achieve my desired Level of Immersion is – besides putting me into the world – , however, a ‘natural’ 3D effect.

Let me put it this way: Always when I Play the Witcher 3 I feel like I am missing so much Detail that was put into those beautifully crafted worlds. As I said: The Big Screen mode in steam is garbage. Here is hoping that Vorpx is more suited to fulfil this desire.

Edit: As far as I understand you correctly, vorpx does nothing Different than Steam’s Big Picture mode? So again I am sitting in a virtual room looking at a virtual (3D-)Display? Damn. That’s not what I am looking for. Thank you for the clarification, though.
