The DK2 works just fine with USB2.0 ports, the latest Oculus Runtime (v1.3.x) and VorpX v1.16.2.
Now you don’t want to hear ‘uninstall and reinstall’ advice, but your problem is not with VorpX but with the Oculus Runtime libraries not loading. This usually resolves with the clean install outlined above, making sure that only Oculus Runtime v1.3.x is installed.
Once you’ve got the Oculus Store running on the DK2 then you’re good to run VorpX.
redParticipantThe Oculus Runtime Switcher is possibly the cause of your problems. Going from v1.3.x to v0.x and back again has never worked on my systems and has required an uninstall of both (along with manually removing /ProgramFiles(x86)/Oculus directories) and a few restarts to get v1.3 working again.
Try a clean install of Oculus Runtime v1.3 (after uninstalling v0.x, v1.3 and VorpX and restarting). Don’t install Runtime v0.x.
Then try an app (without VorpX installed) from the Oculus Store… they all work fine with the lastest Oculus Runtime and DK2. If you’re not getting any errors then install VorpX v16.1.2.
If you’re still getting the same error I’ll eat my hat.
redParticipantCV1 not yet supported. When will a version of VorpX be available that supports the CV1? To quote the VorpX author : ‘It’s not out yet. Keep an eye on the home page. An annoncement will be made there as soon as it is available’.
redParticipantThat’s great. Cheers for the confirmation.
redParticipantMaybe you could describe your process for getting custom resolution working?
I’ve tried 8:9 custom resolutions in Fallout4, but couldn’t get the Oculus image to be anything other than a portrait view with a squashed x-axis, which I’m sure isn’t the right result.
I’ve created an nVidia control panel custom resolution, set monitor to that resolution, changed iSize in Fallout4Prefs.ini. I’m using vorpX virtual cinema mode.
So I’m left tinkering; reversed width and height values for custom resolution (1280×1440 / 1440×1280), searched reddit posts, but can’t find what I’m doing wrong, and I like the sound of supremely awesome.
redParticipantAre you overclocking your CPU/GPU? If so, try at stock speeds and see if the problem persists.
redParticipantThen your immediate problem isn’t vorpX related, as Dinousaur Island doesn’t use vorpX. Got to get the non-vorpX stuff working before you proceed to GTA5 in VR…
Let’s forget about vorpX for now (no need to uninstall, just don’t run it), and just get the Dinosaur demo working.
Can you uninstall the Oculus Runtime, but before you restart would you delete the Program Files directory for Oculus also (might be in Program Files x86 – can’t remember). Restart and reinstall. Restart again. Try Dinosaur!
I’ll assume you’ve got a decent graphics card and are running latest drivers. If it’s nVidia then make sure you haven’t installed any software other than the core driver and PhysX (don’t install GeForce Experience, 3D Vision etc).
Personally, I’d cut my losses and reinstall Windows. Whatever is causing the problem with Oculus-enabled applications isn’t going to be easy to isolate. Windows 10 is proving stable, so maybe take the plunge and upgrade (if you can…).
redParticipantOK. ‘Euro Truck Simulator 2’ (and apparently ‘Space Engineers’) is a pain to set up even on a working system, so I’m not worried about that.
I’d like to confirm an application working in the Rift without vorpX… you seem to have ‘Steam’, so could you download and play the free ‘Back to Dinosaur Island’ demo and see if there’s any issue there?
If so, we can start introducing vorpX… ‘Life is Strange Episode 1’ is only a few dollars and would be a great testing application. It runs fine with the Oculus 0.8.0.0-beta Runtime and vorpX 0.9.1. Can I persuade you to purchase it in the name of troubleshooting?
BTW, ‘Project Cars’ runs natively with the Oculus 0.8.0.0-beta Runtime, ‘Assetto Corsa’ does not, so please don’t try Assetto Corsa.
So… (1) Can you use the vorpX Desktop Viewer, (2) Can you run the ‘Back to Dinosaur Island’ demo, and (3) Can you run ‘Life is Strange Episode 1’?
redParticipantSomething’s crashing somewhere… it’s just a case of finding out where.
How’s the Oculus performing otherwise? I’d be interested to know if you can use the vorpX Desktop Viewer without issue, and if you can play any native Rift games (without vorpX)? eg. Assetto Corsa, PCars, Elite etc.
Also, can you confirm that GTA5 and Fallout4 run OK on your monitor without vorpX running? Seems silly, but I had to ask…
It’d be nice to see you fixed using Oculus Runtime 0.8.0.0-beta, vorpX 0.9.1 and lastest GPU drivers (nVidia?), otherwise as you say you’ll be stuck in the past.
Don’t give up… getting GTA5 and Fallout4 running with vorpX is life changing…
redParticipantYep – resetting the profile worked a treat. Thanks. And cheers for not saying RTFM.
