Have a look at Control Panel -> Hardware + Sound -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings (whatever’s selected) -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Processor Power Management -> Maximum Processor State (Plugged In).
After one of my Creator updates this value had been set at 50% and VorpX was choppy… taking it back to 100% worked for me.
Also, Maximum Processor Frequency (Plugged In) should be 0% (unlimited).
Worth a shot.
redParticipantI’d be looking at isolating some issue with the VorpX install from 17.1 -> 17.2. I don’t say it lightly but a fresh install of Win10 would most likely work. The unidentified issue would remain unidentified but you’d be enjoying Skyrim in VR.
If that’s not an option then I’d start a new post with the title ‘17.2.1 no DirectVR option’ describing this phenomenon… hopefully the author will give his opinion (if he hasn’t already).
The lines at the top of your log file (“INF: CHECK: HOORAY!”) are not present in my log file but maybe they were present for earlier builds… this could be evidence that your VorpX install is stuck at an earlier (non-DirectVR) build. Again, difficult to troubleshoot and adequate reason to re-install.
redParticipantHi. It sounds like you can get VorpX to display Skyrim in the Rift but there’s no DirectVR functionality… is that right? The game loads up in the HMD and you can play even though head-tracking is all over the place. From your posts you seem to say that there’s no Direct Scan option in the VorpX in-game config panel and Alt+L isn’t doing anything.
I assume you’ve got the three necessary apps running… Oculus Client, VorpX (v17.2.1 running in the taskbar with ‘Device Selection’ set as ‘Oculus Rift’) and you’re starting Skyrim via Steam. Because you’re having trouble you’re running no mods whatsoever (so no SKSE).
I also assume that non-VorpX VR titles are working without issue.
Launch Skyrim from Steam. From ‘Options’ set as ‘Aspect Ratio (4:3 or 5:4)’ to ‘1280×1024’) and ‘Windowed Mode’, then ‘Play’. The monitor should show a black window with the VorpX logo bottom middle and the app starts in the Rift.
On or before the Skyrim main menu did you see a message window that says ‘DirectVR supported. Partially cached’ and ‘Recenter tracking if it feels odd in any way’?
Still in the Skyrim main menu (before selecting ‘Continue’ to start game) can you press ‘Del’ on the keyboard to bring up the VorpX in-game panel? In ‘Main Settings’ there’s a bunch of options starting with ‘Virtual Cinema Mode’ which should have a ‘Direct VR scan Alt+L’ option below. Is this there and can you left-click it if it is?
A month with a 1080ti and no VR Skyrim! That’s torture.
redParticipantDid you try disabling the integrated graphics of your laptop?
redParticipantProblem solved. Thank you.
redParticipantHi. I’m not sure what you’re doing wrong. You seem to be doing a lot of things right.
What do you mean when you say ‘all that I keep seeing is software classes’?
Also, check whether you’ve updated to the latest version of the Oculus software. You mention SteamVR… make sure this isn’t running. And in the VorpX Config (right-click VorpX icon in taskbar) under ‘General Settings’ can you check that ‘Oculus Rift’ is in ‘Device Selection’.
redParticipant@Danzel88 : Try sending an email to support |at| vorpx |dot| com explaining the issue.
redParticipantContent from Oculus Share is already natively supported in the Rift, so don’t require VorpX to run (and probably won’t run with VorpX in the background). Vorpx is an injector that takes the output from traditional DirectX9/10/11 games designed for a 2D monitor and (wonderfully and incredibly) displays them in the Rift with stereo rendering and headtracking.
Could it be that you’re using VorpX in situations where it isn’t needed? Or maybe you could give examples of what doesn’t load and whether you’re trying with VorpX in the background or not.
redParticipantThings aren’t always perfect on first running a game in VorpX. Have a look at the ‘Essential Hints (READ THIS)’ section of the VorpX Config (right-click the VorpX notification icon). Maybe there’s something in there that you’ve missed?
redParticipantPlease don’t use the VorpX Destop Viewer for this troubleshooting… it’ll only confuse things. We’re looking to click ‘Play’ from the Fallout4 launcher on the Desktop and for the game to start in the Rift.
A few things to try…
(1) Update VorpX by running your vorpX_WebSetup.exe again.
(2) From the Fallout4 launcher, under ‘Options’ and ‘Mode’ choose ‘Windowed’, and Aspect Ratio to ‘Standard’, Resolution ‘800×600’. Let’s give it every chance to work.
(3) (a) Right-click the VorpX icon and ‘Configfure VorpX’. Under ‘General’ and ‘Device Selection’ it should say ‘Oculus Rift’. (b) Under ‘Excluded Programs’ you should see ‘FalloutLauncher.exe’ but not ‘Fallout4.exe’. (c) Under ‘Local Profiles’ and ‘Fallout4’ make sure ‘Assigned Programs’ shows ‘Fallout4.exe’
(4) Remove any mods or other 3rd party add-ons to Fallout4 that you may be running.
redParticipantAfter selecting ‘Play’ from the Fallout4 launcher on the monitor (brought up by selecting ‘Play’ from Steam Fallout4 entry) the Rift should change to the white introduction scene (with the Health and Safety warning where you have to gaze at the bottom text or press ‘A’ on the controller).
You load your save from the Rift, not the desktop, as VorpX is pushing everything to the Rift by this point. If you’re loading the save from the desktop then it’s not working.
So, when you say that you click play from the launcher and see the loading screen, is the loading screen on the monitor or the Rift?
redParticipantIf you’re running apps in the Rift from Oculus Home (Lucky’s Tale, JauntVR, etc) then you’ve got the Oculus Runtime installed. Oculus Home is just a front-end for the Oculus Store, but requires the Runtime to work just like VorpX. So if you can run Lucky’s Tale then you’re in a good position to run VorpX.
So; with Oculus Home running on your monitor (showing ‘Store’ and ‘Library’ in the top left) and in the Rift (with ‘Welcome to Oculus Home’ heading) you can then run VorpX… when it’s running there is an icon in the taskbar notification panel (don’t run the VorpX Desktop Viewer).
You might want to right-click the VorpX icon and ‘Configure VorpX’ to use the ‘Game Setting Optimizer’ for whichever title you’re about to play (Fallout4!).
I’ll assume you’re using the Steam version of Fallout4 and that the game runs well without VorpX. Make sure Steam is also running.
We’ve got : (1) Oculus Runtime (Home), (2) VorpX, (3) Steam all running, so click ‘Play’ from the Steam games list entry for Fallout4. Ideally, you should now be running Fallout4 in the Rift.
If you can’t see anything in the Rift then click the middle mouse button to get into edge-peek mode, Alt+Space on the keyboard to recentre the Rift view, the press ‘Delete’ to fine-tune the experience.
Let me know which part of the process didn’t work, and we’ll take it from there.
redParticipantWith the Oculus Runtime and VorpX running, can you right-click the VorpX icon (in the taskbar notification area) and run the VorpX desktop viewer?
redParticipantPlease confirm : are you using an Oculus DK1, DK2 or CV1?
Are you using Oculus Runtime v0.x or v1.3.x?
Can you see the Demo Scene (if using Runtime v0.x) or the Oculus Store (v1.3.x) from your HMD?
Are you using VorpX v0.9.1 or v16.1.2?
Are you able to get anything running correctly in the Rift other than Fallout4 (with or without VorpX)?
redParticipantThe new Oculus set-up is geared for CV1 hardware, so use the ‘skip’ button to get quickly through the CV1 set-up windows. You’ll jump straight into the Oculus Store. There’ll be a warning that your DK2 is unsupported, yet it will still work.
Stay with Oculus v0.x and VorpX v0.9.x if you wish, but there’s really no need and the newer versions offer a much improved experience. As Ralf has already stated, ‘please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com’ to request the older VorpX version.
