RalfKeymasterThere is an almost infinite amount of possible ways for game developers to program their rendering pipelines, hence vorpX has to treat every game engine different, often even multiple games that use different iterations of an engine. That’s what vorpX’s 3D profiles do.
If you know what engine your game is based, try an official vorpX profile for a game based on the same engine to create your custom profile. Chances aren’t too bad to get basic Geometry 3D that way, but there never is a guarantee.
Whenever you create a custom profile based on a G3D profile the G3D option is visible in the menu. Doesn’t necessarily mean that the user profile actually works correctly though. The option being visible just means that vorpX uses the G3D parameters defined in the profile. Whether these parameters are right for the game you try with the profile is a different question.
RalfKeymasterSetting the FOV in PiTool does not affect vorpX profile settings. If you made changes to any vorpX profile settings, you have to change them back with vorpX.
If you are unsure what PiTool settings to choose, use the ones recommended in the original post above. They work well and ensure that everything behaves as expected.
RalfKeymasterSwitching to “DirectX 11 Legacy” will fix 3D. Until the next vorpX update you will have to do this on every game start.
You can find the setting here: Menu > System > Advanced > Rendering API
If the vorpX cursor disappers, try ALT+C, which might (should) bring it back.
RalfKeymasterCan’t really say much to that. If it doesn’t work with the mod, yes, you will have to play unmodded.
Mods aren’t officially supported for any game (with a handful of very popular exceptions). If a game does not work with a mod you apply, first thing to try should always be checking without mods.
RalfKeymasterSeems to be an issue with the .exe name, which probably breaks the whole profile (incl. FOV). I’ll look into it. It’s supposed to have both G3D and DirectVR FOV.
FC3/4 both have DirectVR FOV, head tracking and resolution.
In general: check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the vorpX help to learn how to deal with FOV (“zoomed in”) if a game does not have DirectVR FOV. There may be better options than the vorpX image zoom. In this particular case you may be able to set the FOV in the game’s config file for example.
RalfKeymasterPlease check whether you run the game with DX11, not DX12.
If that does not help, the game update probably broke the 3D profile. That’s always a possibility after a larger game update unfortunately. I’ll check that, thanks for the heads-up.
RalfKeymasterThat’s what EdgePeek (middle mouse button, right (or left?) controller thumbstick) is meant for in games where the HUD can’t be scaled. EdgePeek allows you to briefly zoom out and look around the screen. Also useful for menus and cutscenes.
You can find this and other useful hints also in the ‘Quickstart Guide’ and the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the vorpX help. Both heavily recommended reads.
RalfKeymasterThey contacted me, but then ignored all requests to get a devkit. Their ‘devkits’ apparently are mainly for YouTubers instead of actual devs, I’m not the only one whose requests were ignored. I ended up purchasing one off Ebay, check the stickied Pimax thread above for the current state of affairs.
RalfKeymasterGeometry 3D profiles have to be custom tailored per game. You *may* be able to create a working G3D profile by copying another profile, but there is no guarantee for that. Typically this only works with games that are based on the same 3D engine.
RalfKeymasterIt’s been that way for quite a while. Unless Windows Defender is missing some very specific functionality you consider important, there is no reason to use anything else anymore.
RalfKeymasterHuh? It’s supposed to have Geometry 3D. Make sure to use the Steam version in case you don’t. Only thing I can imagine is that maybe some older CD version may use DirectX 8 instead of DirectX 9.
Also check whether your vorpX version is up-to-date (19.1.0). The profile was added last year IIRC.
RalfKeymasterJust uninstall your third party AV program and you’re good. Windows 10 has a built in AV solution named Windows Defender with excellent protection (incl. live monitoring). Windows Defender kicks in automatically as soon as you remove your third party AV software.
RalfKeymasterMost (hopefully all) shadows should be disabled in Edith Finch, but there seems to be some glitch in the current vorpX version that might prevent that from working under some circumstances.
Just discovered this glitch today in Bioshock Infinite, might also apply to this game. Will be looked into shortly.
RalfKeymasterThanks for the suggestions. I’ll see what makes sense.
BTW: Check the added ‘vorpX Display Settings’ paragraph above. Judging from the handful of games I tried that way disabling async render seems to work better with Pimax (but not with other headsets!). Rock solid even at 36fps (with 72Hz PiTool refresh rate).
RalfKeymasterThere is new a alternative hooking method that you can enable in the config app in case of hooking issues.
Caveat: this method is not meant for general use. It’s not per se better than normal hooking. Only try it in case of issues and always try both methods.
If that does not help, check for the usual hooking issue suspects. Almost all hooking problems are related to interfering background programs: virus scanners, GPU/CPU utilities, game recording/streaming software, messengers, generally everything that can create an overlay over games.
