Prey has head tracking as well as GTA V, just not Direct VR head tracking. In games without Direct VR head tracking the mouse is simulated for head tracking. For most newer profiles that is dialed in to work 1:1 out of the box, but if you changed a game’s mouse sensitivity, you may have to adjust the head tracking sesnsitivity in vorpX accordingly since both depend on each other.

If you have no head tracking at all in both games, please check whether you maybe indvertanly disabled head tracking in the vorpX config app.

GTA V resolution: 800×600 sounds weird. Please first try to add custom resolutions to your display driver (“Custom Resolution” section in the vorpX help). If that does not help, you can disable the resolution auto setting in the vorpX menu (“Direct VR” page) and set a higher (4:3) resolution yourself in the game’s options menu.

GTA V performance: GTA V is quite demanding, so first to reduce graphics details. If that is not enough to get decent performance on your machine, switch the “3D-Reconstruction” in vorpX to “Z-Buffer Normal”. Doesn’t look as natural 3d-wise, but is a lot faster.

That sounds a bit as if vorpX isn’t running at all since it normally disables the Steam desktop theater.

So first please check whether vorpX is actually running (if it is, you see a vorpX tray icon in your task bar).

If vorpX is running and the game for some reason still launches in the Steam desktop theater, please try to disable the desktop theater in the game’s Steam options: right click the game name in Steam, choose “Properties”, uncheck “Use Desktop Game Theatre”.

    Please try the steps below:

    1. Uninstall Oculus runtime 0.8 if it is still installed.
    2. Reinstall the latest Oculus software (https://www.oculus.com/setup/).
    3. Open the vorpX config app.
    4. Go to the “General” page.
    5. Select “Oculus Rift DK2” as your headset type.

If that does not help, please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com. I could provide you with an older vorpX version that works with runtime 0.8. It’s rather outdated though (~2 years old) and very inferior to the current vorpX version.

If by ‘doesn’t look good’ you mean the blurry image quality: that is caused by the antialising the game uses. Many newer games use post-fx aa techniques that blur the image, which is not ideal for VR.

To mitigate the blurry picture you can raise the resolution. The game has auto resolution support through DirectVR. Make sure to add custom resolutions to your PC first (“Custom Resolutions” section in the vorpX help), then select a preferred resolution quality in the vorpX menu (“Direct VR” page)

You can probably also disable antialising in the game’s options menu. That makes the image sharper, but introduces ‘jaggies’.

The settings optimization is done fully automatically when you start a game that has support for it, you don’t have to do anything. Not all games have that though. Whenever settings are changed for a game, a notification is shown that advises to restart the game. Check this blog post for a short video about it. You can see what Direct VR features (if any) are available for a game on the Direct VR page of the vorpX ingame menu.

For games that do not have automatic settings optimization or other Direct VR feature support please check the Essential Hints Guide in the vorpX help. It explains possible workarounds in regard to FOV which vary from game to game.

If a profile for a game you want to play is already in the local profile list, you do not have to import it since you already have it locally. All profiles in the local profiles list are automatically active and vorpX hooks into the games when you start them.

The only things you need to do is selecting “Steam VR” as your headset type in the vorpX config app and making sure that vorpX is running (a tray icon on your taskbar is shown when that is the case).

Normally Steam VR should launch automatically when you start a game that vorpX hooks into but you can also start it manually before you start the game.

I’ll look into it, but can’t promise anything. As said above the game switches the texture used for the depth buffer during gameplay which is not always trackable.

Confirmed, thanks for the heads-up. Nothing you can do yourself about it unfortunately, but the issue will be addressed in the next release.

@ Jaformhals: You can use EdgePeek for menus that are hard to see/use otherwise. Default for that is clicking the mouseswheel or pressing the right gamepad thumbstick.

@ matteo39: There is basic, incomplete G3D. No game specific fixes or anything more advanced though, hence it wasn’t mentioned in the changelog. Will be improved for the next vorpX version.

Another game that switches the textures used for the depth buffer during gameplay, which isn’t always trackable. ALT+TAB out and back into a game can (but doesn’t always have to) help.

There isn’t much you need to do besides using “Steam VR” as headset type for your Vive in the vorpX config app and making sure that vorpX is running.

BTW: The game is quite demanding, so setting the game’s graphics quality to medium or low is recommended.
