Until now this happened every now and then, but since a recent Windows Defender update two days ago it happens quite often. A fix is already being tested and will be made available shortly (later today) as a hotfix release – provided nothing comes up during testing.

In the meantime disabling real time scanning in the Windows Defender settings (or any other virus scanner you might use) should fix it or at least reduce the chance of that happening.

For watching 3D movies, you need to set the 3d display mode (SBD/Over under) in the vorpX menu (image page).

Not sure about the Trine error, sorry, haven’t looked at them for a long time, but I will check that. Just a guess: if you have the native S3D mode enabled in Trine, try to disable to check whether that makes a difference

Direct VR in Portal 2 relies on vorpX overwriting the game’s FOV very often, very fast. Maybe something on your machines interferes with that. Most likely potential candidate would be some aggressive antivirus software that constantly monotor memory operations. Please try to disable your Av scanner and check whether that helps.

The vorpX gamepad emulation is disabled on purpose while Direct VR is active in favor of a game’s native gamepad functionality since with Direct VR there can’t be any conflicts between the vorpX head tracking and gamepads. ATM I’m not 100% sure whether Portal 2 has native gamepad support though, if not you could use an external gamepad emulator like Pinnacle Profiler for example.

We have sent 8 messages to your G-Mail address (rya…@gmail.com), which is the one you activated vorpX with, between 7/14 and yesterday (7/19) incl. new download links and registration keys.

Please check your spam folder, it’s extremely unlikely (read next to impossible) that mails to G-Mail just vanish.

Please contact support |at| vorpx com with data from the actual purchase (purchaser’s e-mail address or ideally the MyCommerce order-id) and this will be sorted out. We need to be able to link your key request to an actual purchase.

It’s possible to ‘walk’ one or two steps in many games with Geometry 3D support. Not really roomscale, but there is positional tracking in many G3D games that allows for a little bit of movement.

Some games with positional Direct VR support (direct manipulation of a game’s camera, e.g. Bioshock series, Half-Life 2, Left for Dead 2, Portal 1+2, Fallout 4) also allow a bit more than that, which could be called ‘basic roomscale’.

    That is a false positive.

Please disable your virus scanner and try again.

If you use anything else than Windows Defender, which automatically comes with Windows 10, I would highly recommended to remove that scanner and use Windows Defender instead. Windows Defender offers good virus protection without being as invasive/annoying as some other scanners.

Uninstalling is not necessary/recommended at all when you update, you might lose some settings that way.

If you want to update manually, just run the web installer again without uninstalling. The auto-update does basically the same thing.

I can’t really say much re Pimax specifically, sorry. vorpX supports Steam VR, how good that works on a given headset mostly depends on how well Steam VR is implemented for that headset. One issue with the Pimax in the beginning was that it doesn’t have a proximity sensor, which lead to the screen going black after a while in vorpX. That has been addressed, otherwise I can’t say whether there maybe are other glitches in their Steam VR support. Haven’t heard anything in a while yet though, so I guess it’s OK now. Maybe someone with a Pimax can chime in.

Games are very, very different regarding how they render graphics, so there is no simple answer to your profile related questions. In some cases it’s enough to copy an existing profile of a game based on the same engine. Works fairly well for Unreal Engine 3 games for example. In other cases that is not possible at all. Completely unsupported games are shown in 2D.

The performance impact varies heavily, mainly depending on the 3D mode that is used by vorpX. There is a mode that renders everything twice like native apps (called G3D), which costs about 50% +/- 10%, and there is a post fx 3D mode (called Z3D), which is a lot faster, but doesn’t look as good. On top of that there is an additional VR-specific performance impact compared to monitor 3D since in a final step the image has to be rendered to the headset.

For Morrowind you will need an additional tool that enables DirectX 9 rendering instead of the default Morrowind DX8 rendering (which vorpX can’t handle). It’s called “Morrowind Graphics Extender XE” or short “MGE XE” and can be downloaded here:

That sounds like a neat idea. I’ll keep it in mind, but I can’t really promise anything. The list of potential nice-to-have features is already pretty long.

That’s almost certainly just a minor glitch when getting the current VSync state from the AMD-dirver to check whether the message should be shown or not. If you disabled VSync in your GPU’s control panel, all is well and you can safely ignore that message.

That might not always be possible if games are using a “hardware cursor”. The vorpX cursor that is actiavted in the headset in such a case currently cannot be shown on the monitor.

avgui.exe seems to belong to AVG antivirus and is not supposed to be hooked by vorpX. Please either add it to the exclude list in the vorpX config or – better – use Windows Defender (which comes with Windows 10) as your antivirus.

Some AV programs are prone to causing injection issues with vorpX. So to be on the safe side it’s best to use Windows Defender, which is quite good these days – without being as invasive as some other AV programs.

That souldn’t matter. Please make sure that you COPY AND PASTE both the name field and the key EXACTLY as shown in the key e-mail. The name field has to contain the name followed by the e-mail address in parantheses, exactly like shown in the key e-mail.

Use COPY AND PASTE to avoid potential typos, do not type anything manually.
