In reply to: New User: games are all zoomed in
leppermessiahParticipantWell, buying VorpX is an all or nothing proposition for me. Since there’s no trial and no refunds and all sales are final I need Bioshock Remastered to be plug and play and it isn’t, so it makes my decision really easy.

RalfKeymasterCan you explain what you mean? the OP of this thread obviously didn’t do things right originally. In Bioshock vorpX can not only adjust the FOV (‘zoomed in’) automatically, like in about 150 other games, but also provides perfect 1:1 head tracking at the touch of the button. With the original Bioshock you even get basic room scale capabilities if you want.
Bioshock (original preferred over remastered) is pretty much plug and play, the only thing you might want to adjust manually is possibly the resolution for better image quality.

leppermessiahParticipantI literally only want to purchase VorpX so I can play Bioshock Remastered on my Index and so I thank you for warning me off.

dellrifter22ParticipantBioshock Infinite runs on the older Unreal 3, Sea of Thieves looks to run on Unreal 4.
Try a few other profiles based on Unreal 4, like Hellblade or Conarium.
Check RJK’s handy engine list here for a more complete list.
I’m glad to hear you can at least hook the game with vorpX. I’ve added it now to my wish list. Let us know if you find a working 3D. Thanks, and keep up the great work with your channel – my go to for vr tech.

Tyriel WoodParticipantI tried bioshock infinite for now, but no luck for 3d,

RalfKeymasterDid you check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the help (or here for convenience)? It covers your ‘zoomed in’ issue and other important topics that are useful to know and save a lot of unnecessary trial and error.
In case of Bioshock and Crysis vorpX can handle FOV (‘zoomed in’) automatically via DirectVR. For Crysis that os done by editing a game .ini, hence vorpX requests a game restart. Once the .ini has been adjusted successfully, this prompt does not occur anymore until you change settings that require vorpX to adjust the .ini again.
In Bioshock (original) you have to run the memory scanner for the FOV to get fixed.
To run the game in DX9 mode, please add to the launch options in Steam what vorpX suggests in the message it displays (without the quotes), I’m pretty that is not -dxlevel 90.

RalfKeymasterFrom the three above only game with memory scanner support is Bioshock. If it is missing, try a factory reset in the config app.
Borderlands 3 is officially supported, but no memory scanner.
Doom 3 is not officially supported. There *might* a user profile with working scanner support, but I wouldn’t know. Would also be a surprise.

muguglyParticipantThe games I’m playing do support it. They worked yesterday. Borderlands 3. Bioshock, Doom 3 BFG. It just stopped showing up today.

GhostRider087Participant@ RJK
Yes it works for example Bioshock 2 in direct x9 is in the game list, in the description of the website you can see following information:
This includes fixes using Helix Mod (DirectX 9), 3dmigoto (DirectX 11) and OpenGL 3D Vision Wrapper.
@Oliiiiive
Oh, im still using Windows 8.1 and can confirm Phantom Pain and quantum break works perfectly with the Nvidia 3D Vision via 3D Fix manager.
My (normal Nvidia driver is version 445.87My Pc is 6 years old and i have an Geforce GTX 660, i buy a new pc in the next months with Windows 10 of course.
But it should also work in Win 10.
Do you use Nvidia Geforce Experience to update your normal video card driver ?May 6, 2020 at 12:18pm #194460
RalfKeymasterI’d like to throw one into the ring that I always considered underrated. Have to mention it once a year or so: Aliens: Colonial Marines.
If you aren’t opposed to straight up shooter gameplay in a science fiction setting with a little bit of horror thrown in, you can’t go wrong with this one. Don’t expect a masterpiece like Bioshock, but it’s a more than solid shooter with great atmosphere that lends itself very well to being played in VR.
It’s a few years old, so it also performs very well. On modern GPUs you should largely be able to reach 90fps with Geometry 3D. There also is full DirectVR support with all bells and whistles.

RalfKeymasterThe only two DX10 games I can think of being still relevant enough to warrent that effort are Bioshock (already works great in DX9 mode, the DX11 remaster has G3D too) and Crysis (also DX9 G3D). So no, probably DX10 G3D won’t happen.
Apr 27, 2020 at 12:46pm #194149In reply to: BioShock Infinite: Custom Resolution in Fullscreen?
RalfKeymastervorpX forces Bioshock Infinite to run windowed for custom resolutions. If you want to play it fullscreen with a resolution higher than your monitor, you have to disable automatic resolution on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu and then set the resolution manually in the game options.
To make that work you will have to add resolutions to your graphics driver first. A detailed step-by-step guide and a list of resolutions to add can be found in the vorpX help under ‘Custom Resolutions’.
If you just want to use fullscreen because of potential mouse issues, you could also just use your VR controllers set to gamepad emulation in vorpX instead (or a gamepad of course).

TalemannParticipantSorry man. I can see a list of games, but not a list of games working with VorpX. I have tried some of those and the all of them wehre awful except Bioshock dx9. Its more useful for its cinema mode. Even DirectVR often gives you strange results.
Apr 26, 2020 at 9:48am #194127In reply to: Did anyone play Half-Life Alyx yet?
hemingwaysghostParticipantI’m somewhat with you on this one… the game is gorgeous and the physics are smooth but there’s not much to do with them. Almost all of the objects are just pointless junk. I found there was both too little ammo but also too few enemies and so it wasn’t that challenging a lot of the time. I prefer a more action packed shooter like Bioshock. The slower pace would have been ok if there’d been a lot more enemy variety and therefore a lot more unexpected encounters. More boss fights would have helped as well. But with only three guns, no melee, and maybe a half dozen enemy types it just wasn’t quite as exciting as I’d have liked. I wish you could cash resin in for ammo and crank up the enemy volume by 3x, but hopefully there will be some really great mods out that are more challenging.
I’ve been slowly working through Boneworks and it’s a lot closer to what I was hoping for. The puzzles are a nice break and the action is heavy enough to be engaging without being so challenging that it becomes frustrating and there’s actually stuff to do with all the things you can interact with.

hemingwaysghostParticipantAnyone have any tips on their setup?
It runs pretty smooth with a couple issues that could use some tweaking…
Only half the pip-boy appears even with edge peak.
Sometimes the controls lock up until I switch to desktop and click on the window… I had a similar problem with Bioshock Infinite and switching to full screen helped there I think but doesn’t seem to be working here.
There have also been several times where I got the spinning hourglass, but that may have been resolved after I reset SteamVR. Have to play some more tonight to see for sure.
