There are already profiles for the next vorpX version for both games that take full advantage of the new Direct VR feature including automated FOV adjustment. Also no controller mapping needed anymore for these, you will be able to use the gamepad natively.

Still good that game wise FOV adjustment will also be possible. I just hope these patches don’t break anything, I will check them next week.

The original Bioshock 1 + 2 will still be the clearly better options for vorpX BTW. Both versions look almost identical unless you stand directly in front of a wall to inspect the higher res textures, so there isn’t any real benefit in playing the remasters. The original DX9 versions run quite a bit better with vorpX though since the DX11 remasters require a game specific hack to work at all that slows things down.

I agree it works like a charm, especially with Pascal. I am getting 90FPS with detail on medium or high, Geometry, and super sampled resolution. Head tracking and positional tracking on. I am talking about the best Vorpx games like Dishonored, Shadow Warrior, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Bioshock Infinite, Outlast, Dead Space 3. To me, they run about perfect now apart from minor glitches. To be honest i also like Z3D in games like Alan Wake, but of course Geometry is the best mode because of the positional tracking. I suggest to further improve the interface of the software and the documentation about each option to make it just a bit more user friendly.

Soon(tm). I can’t be more specific, sorry – which is directly linked to your other question. It doesn’t work with all games automatically, but I’m aiming at 25-30 games for the next update, so that hopefully everyone will find something. Bioshock is definitely among them.

BTW: Short update on the remaster: since the issue with this game is was one of those cases that don’t let one sleep at night, incidentally I devoted another day to this just today, and there is good news to share: it will work with the next vorpX. The original will probably still have a performance advantage (haven’t checked yet), but at least the remaster works now in a decent manner with full Geometry 3D.

Or even better: wait until the next vorpX update to play the original Bioshock then. It’s worthwhile to wait, that much I can say.

Such a tease. :) Are you talking about profile specific update or something that affects all/most games? Can you give any estimation on when you plan on next update, its been awhile since last big one. Allthough I have to thank you for the custom profiles, I haven’t even gone through all the potential ones yet.

I managed to get the remaster working by renaming the exe to Bioshockr.exe. I then duplicated the profile for Bioshock Infinite and added Bioshockr.exe to it. Only Z-Normal and Z-Adaptive 3D work though (Geometry 3D crashes).

Honestly, play the original. I can barely see any differences in the remastered version and many players have reported that the remaster has some bugs that were fixed in patches for the original.

I don’t think there is a way to make it work with any existing profile.

After spending the better part of the weekend with changes to vorpX for this game, I’m currently unsure whether it makes sense to further pursue this at all. The game does a few VERY odd things. Making it work at all requires two performance degrading hacks currently with Geometry 3D. Due to that it runs a lot worse than the original Bioshock while looking more or less exactly the same.

In short: almost zero visual benefit compared to the original, but so far a lot worse performance.

I may revisit this after the next update with a little bit more time at hand, but for a good Bioshock playthrough the original is the way to go for now. Or even better: wait until the next vorpX update to play the original Bioshock then. It’s worthwhile to wait, that much I can say.

These aren’t all FPS games, but are excellent picks:

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is AWESOME in VR if you’re into mystery adventures
Elite Dangerous if you like space exploration games
The Elder Scrolls Series – primarily Skyrim.
Fallout 4
The Batman Arkham Series
Metro 2033
Call of Duty Black Ops 1-3, Battlefield 3-4 and even Hardline, Any Splinter Cell or Crysis game
Alien Isolation
Quake I-III
Half Life 2
Portal
The Witcher 1 and 2 if you like extended campaign games that will suck all your time, not sure if Witcher III is manageable at acceptable graphics levels
Bioshock: Infinite
Borderlands
GTA IV and V
and to tickle your fear of heights check out Mirror’s Edge

Essentially if your computer can run it, and it’s built on a major game engine like Unreal, Unity, and quite a few others – it’ll play in VorpX. The less popular it is the more tweaking you’ll have to do though because it won’t have been done already by someone else. Once you get used to the Vorpx in game menu you’ll be able to get games to run. Whether you get a true stereoscopic experience depends on how the game was coded though.

I’m sure that’s clear as mud now.. lol. But hopefully there are a couple of games on there you can check out that are well established as compatible.

VorpX Supported Games

You need to adjust the field of view (FOV) for games that you want to play in full VR to avoid a zoomed in image. There are several options how to deal with that depending on the game. Once you got that right, the experience can be quite close to native apps in many supported games.

For Bioshock Infinite the vorpX Game Optimizer in the config app should be able to handle that. For other games you might need workarounds or external tools like Flawless Widescreen (http://www.flawlesswidescreen.org).

This is such an important topic that it’s actually the very first thing mentioned in the Essential Hints guide in the help as well as in the support FAQ here on the website. Do yourself a favor and read the guide in the help if you haven’t done so already. It answers the most important general questions and saves a lot of tinkering.

Same here, never got Bioshock 2 to work, no matter what I tried it kept crashing, I just gave up.

I’m getting the same issues with bioshock 2. It’s honestly pretty annoying because I am good with computers and vorpx has been nothing but issue after issue. I still can’t get skyrim to work properly despite posting in the forums. I keep getting told to have it not modded which I stated a few times I didn’t mod it. I wish I would have saved my money because for the price I expected a little more polish on a product. I have yet to play a game with it despite hours of tinkering. I’m giving up and calling it a wash. I really wanted to play bioshock 2 but it crashes every time I start a new game after the intro.

Too soon to tell, but considering that the Bioshocks all work quite well in VR, the remasters will certainly be looked into.

I agree with OP.

The list is *very* misleading.

As there is no way to test VorpX before buying like with TriDef for example, all you have is this list and some internet chatter.

After buying VorpX it was like a kick in the nuts. Even a game is on the list the VorpX driver itself shows me on the rift that this game is not supported and all I get is a 2D “experience”. If you call that supported… no thank you.

But yes, it has to do something with my steam, steam overlay, ShadowPlay, Virus Scan, (insert random name here) and so on.

Selling the software as “beta” doesn’t help at all, well maybe the author as an excuse.

Some games like Amnesia are unplayable as the refresh rate is tied to your monitor. So if it’s 60 Hz you’ll get a 30 FPS “experience” in VR. *slowclap*

Some games’ physics is tied to 60 Hz refresh rate and here again it’s pretty much useless.

And even the game which run pretty well still have glitches with shadows or reflections.

I tried TriDef and it works and much better for games like Guild Wars 2, Tera, Life is Strange, Trine, Bioshock Infinite and so on. No headtracking, but playing first person VR with VorpX and not being do decouple head movement from mouse movement makes me wanna hit something really hard. The latter not being an issue of VorpX, it’s just the way it is and for me it sucks big time.

The most enjoyable way is really to play on a virtual screen in stereoscopic 3D and for that TriDef is far superior to VorpX.

3- Tomb Raider 2013 – Failed to Start with Vorpx Watcher enabled.

Just played that couple of days ago, and worked fine just like before, I too have problems with some games. Bioshock2 crashes quite fast on my computer, and getting black screen treatment on games like Risen but I have to try to troubleshoot these by disabling non essential software.

What I would like to see in the supported games list is the 3D mode that the profile supports (without any big graphical issues) so I could know in advance what to expect, for example

Metro 2033 (geometry)
Tomb Raider (z-normal)

DX9 is mandatory for Bioshock and should work normally. There is no 3D in DX10 mode.

Considering you other post I would assume there might be an injection conflict with some other program your PC. That’s the first thing you should look out for.
