Slime Rancher is the first game I’ve tried to play with VorpX. Perhaps it would be smarter to start with a game with a known, working profile, but anyway this is where I started.

I started by copying the profile for Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, because that’s also a Unity 5 game. I’m using an XBox 360 wireless controller, because I’ve found it impossible to use a keyboard with my Vive.

I set the game’s resolution to 1280 x 1024, because higher resolutions are all widescreen. I tried higher (16:9, 16:10 aspect) resolutions and they made the HUD problem worse. I set the FOV to 90. Which is actually around 110, supposedly, because the FOV setting is the vertical FOV, not the more usual horizontal FOV.

Geometry 3D works, but there are FOV and scale issues. The biggest issue is the HUD elements, such as the hot bar and current tutorial pop up. If I set the scale to 1:1 and the zoom to 100%, the HUD elements are in the far corners of my vision, and unreadable. If I set the zoom to the minimum of 40%, the HUD elements are in comfortable positions, but the view is severely bounded, like playing in Cinematic mode or with Letterbox 2.

I understand games with Direct VR support can scale the HUD elements separately. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to do that with a Unity 5 game.

Menus are nearly impossible to use. They don’t select properly with the thumb stick unless I push it to the left as well as up and down, and the (A) label indicating which menu item is selected flickers in and out.

I had to disable head positioning, because otherwise turning my head causes the screen to effectively cut out. More accurately, the models turn flat monochrome silhouettes. Head rotation sensitivity of 0.5 appears to be correct.

The camera is very low to the ground, but raising it (by specifying a negative camera vertical offset) results in severe distortion if I tilt my head up or down. Nothing seems to be the right scale – everything seems to be too small. Presumably this is because of the zoom, but the game’s unplayable if you can’t see the HUD elements.

Locking yaw doesn’t work. Presumably that’s only for mouse input, not controllers. For the life of me, I don’t know how anyone plays a VR game with keyboard and mouse, since acquiring the keyboard blindly is difficult.

I didn’t have this problem before I upgraded to version 18.2.5.

My Del key no longer works in ANY application (e.g. here typing this message in Chrome) as long as VorpX is running. Pausing the watcher is not enough. I have to exit VorpX entirely to use the Del key in other applications.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Try Firefox or Chrome instead of the Netflix app. That should work, although probably not in 4K.

The Netflix app uses a rendering pipeline with content protection that can’t be captured by using the normal Windows desktop capture API.

What do you mean by that? It works fine with my Win10.

Well I did some extra research and got that the injector hooks Skyrim only if Chrome (and maybe Skype and Discord too) is closed. That’s good news. The last ENB version that runs with Vorpx is .221 for me. It is pretty decent one though.

However issue with poor shadow resolution persists. I tried to remove any backups of Skyrimprefs, to save these backups with bigger iShadowMapResolution – doesn’t matter. At the moment when I see black Skyrim screen with main menu, skyrimprefs is already modified to 1024 shadow res.

Well at least it’s not just me!

I also noticed that i’m getting a Chrome error dialogue box popping up after the download completes and the update is trying to install?

Was hoping to check out the fixes for the windows 10 anniversary choppy performance issues…

    EDIT:

I just tried again and after the download completes I get a Vorpx window saying “Closing Applications” followed by “Rolling Back Changes”. Then the window closes. If I look in the system tray i see the vorpx icon, but then it just disappears.

Trying to run Vorpx again just starts the update download process again…

having the same issue. Don’t have Chrome open so no idea what would be causing it not to load.

Requested a new download link, but that is taking forever as well.

I had the same problem. It seems to be related to the fact that Vorpx wants to close programs that might interfere with the installation process but can’t successfully do it, thus rolling back the update.

Strangely enough, it seemed that Google Chrome was the culprit. I manually closed it through the task bar, and that seemed to do it.

Alternatively, just using the installer and installing Vorpx again seems to work too.

I think there is a problem with your website in Chrome, that is why many transactions fail. In chrome the fields for credit card are not available, while with the internet explorer they are

I’ve found several references on these forums of people managing to get geo3D working by renaming the .exe file to DXHRDC.exe but it seems like even though the in-game vorpx menu allows geo 3D to be selected, it doesn’t seem to do anything.

Does anyone have information on why this trick no longer works? (Or if it still does and it’s just a problem on my end.

Also, I’ve tried several other popular exe names (udk, arma2 etc) to no avail. I believe the game runs on the chrome engine, used in the dead island games (I also tried renaming to the dead island games’ exe’s) and some of the call of juarez games. But DXHRDC.exe seems to be the only one that allows for geo3D even though it isn’t actually functional.

If anyone’s got any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

The install isn’t working for me.

    1. It wants me to shut down Chrome (which I do) and Cortana and Search (which I don’t seem to be able to do).

    2. I am using a non-administrator account (which is where I do all my day-to-day).

    3. When I run install sometimes it works and launches the config.

    4. There is NO VorpX icon in the start menu (windows 10) or on the desktop.

    5. I can go to the folder and run the VorpX desktop from there–but:
    (a) when I launch Steam I see it *sometimes*. Moving my head makes it go away.
    (b) when I launch Portal (the only thing I’ve tried) the Vive indicator light goes red (turns off).

    Help?

Also, I just tried: Shutting down the Oculus home AFTER fallout is started, but the rift just shows blank, and then Oculus home starts again. Then I tried Starting Fallout 4, and then starting vorpX desktop viewer, and I can see my desktop, but as soon as I try to alt tab into Fallout 4…It crashes. Or at least it shows the loading symbol. I’ve only waited about 5 seconds after seeing that symbol. Does it take longer than that for it to load? And for both of those tests, I ONLY had Google chrome, Steam, vorpX, and Oculus running. I killed all the others ones.

Just wanted to share. Perhaps may help someone.
    I have DK2
Have 1.3 Oculus Sdk installed and use Oculus switcher to switch from 0.8 sdk(insalled) to 1.3
Original update via vorpx 0.9.1 with 0.8 sdk chosen would result in start of installation and immediate rollback. So I have read the forum and Ralf’s comments. Here is step by step instructions which worked for me.
Used the runtime switcher to allow 0.8 run side by side with 1.3
https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/4ckm38/oculus_runtime_switcher_0506070813_with_gui/Make sure you are on 0.8 and vorpx is started to update.
Remember where update is download in C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Temp\vxs-(numbers)
Quickly copy update file onto desktop or other place before system has deleted it.
Now vorpx will go through and say it rollback changes no problem.
Next in oculus switcher switch to 1.3 sdk
Now vorpx will update normally (may complain that chrome or Cortana open, but should be ok)
Basic trick is that update is downloaded if you are on 0.8 sdk and installed when you are on 1.3

    Hope it helps.

As the titles says, chrome thought the download was malicious and I kept attempting to download it not realizing that there are only three downloads. Can I get another download link? I already sent two emails but I’m not sure if those went through.

    Thanks
