Nothing to worry about. The old SteamVR input API only really supported Vive wands, they deprecated it a while ago in favor of their new, more flexible VRInput() system. Hence the part of vorpX that used the old API had to be rewritten to allow full Index controller support.

I did the wrestling with the SteamVR mapping, the only changes you will notice are for the better, i.e. support for more controller types. You can still map the controllers in vorpX like before. Also all existing setups still work and are fully interchangeable between controller types as far as possible.

You can always try out other game profiles which can be quite a hunt with inhouse engines though. If anything fails you may try out the “unknown” engine list to find a suitable profile for G3D. Always switch over to Z-Normal while trying a profile to see if at least this mode works properly with your game.

Cool! I hope my Index arrives by the end of August – looking forward to running vorpX with it.

vorpX 19.2.2 will be released towards the end of next week, probably July 19. While this is just a maintenance release it will come with a few noteworthy changes:

    • SteamVR input redone. Now uses the (not so) new VRInput() system.
    • Valve Index controller support
    • Oculus Touch support in SteamVR mode
    • Fallout 76 Geometry 3D fixed (doesn’t work currently with the most recent game version).
    • Correct hand/weapon scale for Skyrim/Skyrim SE
    • Positional tracking improvements (thanks to Lathander for insisting that something may not be quite right under some circumstances)
    • Unity 5 base profile fixed.
    • Various other profile fixes.

I received a few mails asking for Index controller support. It’s being worked on and will be available in the next maintenance update towards the end of next week. Although of no real relevance gameplay wise for vorpX even with fully animated hands.

    Thanks for your patience!

Not shure if i understand you right, in some older game profiles you may find the controller page in “OFF” state. Simply enabling this will display the contoller settings.

I can also confirm rocket league looks amazing on the index at 120hz in vorpx.

The only issue is I have to use expert mode and turn async render off, then on again when in the game to get the full 120fps or it caps at 60. Even if it’s off when I start the game.

This is a recent occurance I have noticed since the recent vorpx updates even before I got the index.

Other than that the overall image is amazing. I could only really notice the 120hz and 144hz when playing smooth locomotion games but man is it nice!

Yeah, Index. Actually I was able to run it after lots of testing. Apparently borderless windowed and windowed modes are not the same, windowed mode seems to be working, however I can’t get full resolution with it. :/

Hi which Steam Vr headset you mean (Index)? What is watcher ? Have you tried run all clients i.e. steamVr and in my case WMR in advance ? Any working games till now ?

Usually I intentionally don’t talk much about individual headset pros and cons since I think depending on personal preferences any headset available today can be a valid choice for one or the other reason. In case of the Index however I’d like to make an exception since it does something special that makes it a really good headset for vorpX: the 120/144Hz refresh rate.

While you probably won’t be able to reach full 120fps in most newer games, reprojected 60/120Hz, which are usually easier to achieve than full 90fps, feel very close to 90fps with other headsets and a lot better than 45/90. Actually a surprisingly big difference that can make playing demanding games more enjoyable.

So if you are considering to buy a new headset and aren’t on a tight budget, I can safely recommend the Index as an excellent choice with vorpX in mind for the higher refresh rate alone.

Think twice though if you already have a headset that you are satisfied with.

Index controller support will be added as soon as I have an Index. Should arrive tomorrow, so you can expect an update with Index controller support soon.

Directly supporting less popular hardware like Cybershoes or similar accessories is a more difficult topic, I would assume though that such hardware probably comes with its own gamepad/keyboard mapping software.

Yeah, i’m curious if Ralf has received his Index yet.

My situation is changing as well. With all the quality problems and unavailability of the HP Reverb, i might get a Valve Index sooner than a Reverb (i’m on the Index waiting list for Sep30, but it seems even some Aug30 guys are being processed for shipping ATM). So i’m following closely all the Index info/reviews around the net, as well as things on this forum.

    Looking forward to hear more.

Is there/will there be Valve index support in the future ? I’m not neccessarily talking about finger tracking support (although I wouldn’t be against it!) Just wanting to know if controller button inputs (it has 20-22 vs console controllers 17) will be mappable?

Also is it possible to get various foot tracking input bound to WASD for directional movement and WA-WD-AS-SD for strafing?

The days of playing our favourite old games in seated 3DOF VR may soon be over with this implemented! Even if foot trackingh support comes later, we can always move with joysticks, although that can be very nausea inducing. Not really much different to locomotion with a keyboard and in Vorpx.
