thanks for your reply!
I can get dirt2 working no problem…The thing is i tried yesterday to make it work in directx11 just to see if it would and it does!!!
So for some reason dirt 2 works every time…dirt 3 only in directx11
Any ideas?
Be sure to not only have vorpx running, but the system tray should show that the driver is running. I used to launch Vorpx and never hit “Apply” before running the game.
I bit the bullet and downloaded the Steam download of Dirt 3 and reinstalled the game.
I also deleted my hardware config xml files in My Documents\My Games\Dirt 3 (from memory).
Make sure everything works in 2d.
Then grab and launch Opentrack – set it to use Freetrack and hit start.
Launch Vorpx and hit apply
launch game.
In game, bring up the menu and switch the 3d mode to Geometry. I was impressed with other modes, but once I hit geometry the 3d popped out at me and was really impressive.
For most games you don’t have to set the DK2 as primary monitor. If you haven’t done so already, please check the DK2 setup guide in the documentation. It explains how to setup vorpX with the DK2 as secondary monitor. Normally ~90% of games should work this way.
Dirt3: One thing you could try is switching from DX9 to DX11 or vice versa. Normally both should hook, but maybe one works better for you. (DX9 is preferred due to Geometry 3D support)
For Dirt 3 there is a Game Optimizer entry in the vorpX config app that allows you to switch to DX9 automatically.
in case the Game Optimizer fails for some reason, you can also do this manually:
1. Open [My Documents]\My Games\Dirt3\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml with a text editor
2. Search for forcedx9=”false”
3. Change the line to forcedx9=”true”
4. Save the file
I’ve been messing with vorpx since yesterday. Had a REALLY hard time trying to figure out how it worked. Could get Far Cry 3 to display the vorpx screens and stereoscopy but only on my monitor…Dirt 3 wasn’t doing anything at all.
Only when i tried DIRT2 i managed to get it working. I know now you really have to have your rift setup as the primary monitor BUT you can alt-tab and put your monitor back as primary once the game is launched.
I used to race a lot with tridef on both dirt2 and 3 so i know how important it is to find the sweetspot with seperation, the fov etc…
All in all vorpx seemed to be as good as tridef in dirt 2 once i got it working….
ANYWAY…DIRT 3 isnt’ doing anything. The hook isn’t working. Does anybody have ANY idea as to what might be going wrong?

I find that opentrack can often crash Vorpx when trying edge peak.
This happens often in Dirt 3.
I try to zoom out instead but the menus are located deep on the edges and corners of the display :(
Arma 3 is still something I really want to get working.
I’ve tried COD, Borderlands. All end up being “Gunface” experiences.
Thanks for this,
I’ve used opentrack and it works well. I am also playing Dirt 3 just fine now after a delete of the local game files (manually) and having steam redo the download.
I’ve done no optimization for DX9 manually (via the xml edit) or otherwise.
This is seriously awesome – just did a test with Dirt 3 and GRID on my DK2. Dirt 3’s headtracking is a little bit jerky, and the rearview mirrors are not aligned in GRID, but those are minor issues as far as I’m concerned.
Just a shame GRID is not a particularly great game…
Otherwise, both superb VR experiences!
Hi Woody,
The first thing you should do is apply the Game Optimizer tweaks for Dirt 3 in the vorpX config app. This switches the game to D3D9 and thus enables Geometry 3D.
When this is done, you can adjust the FOV in the vorpX ingame menu. The menu entry is called 3D FOV Enhancement.
Headtracking can either be done by configuring the Rift head tracker as gamepad in vorpX (see below), or by using OpenTrack. The latter will give you better head tracking, sou you should do that if possible. Apparently there is a DK2 ready of OpenTrack available here:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/544fbhsokdpy3n7/AAAKwl6BluqwT9Xn2slyp0dCa
And here are the steps that are required to use the Rift head tracker as gamepad axis with vorpX:
1. Press [DEL] to open the in-game menu
2. Go to Input page
3. Set ‘Handle Gamepads Internally’ to Off
4. Set ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ to Relative or Absolute depending on the game. You should get a grasp of what is better quickly.
The options below this should be more or less self explanatory except maybe Deadzone Correction, which efectively eliminates analog stick deadzones set by the game.
If this is done, your headtracker is now a gamepad axis. The final step is to go to the game’s input options and map look left/right/up/down to the ‘Rift-Gamepad-Axis’, exactly as you would do with any other gamepad axis.
Hello Everyone,
i was testing out VorpX with Dirt 3 and while it was running, some changes have to be made….
Anyone got a tip on how to change the fov? And how do i enable Head Tracking? Do i have to use external Software like Opentrack?
Thank you for your Input
Greetings
PS: Did not try Dirt 2 yet …. but i am eager to do it
oh true, and I havnt tried driver san Francisco yet
it has right joystick look support like F1
will it head turn like Dirt 3 and F1?
This screenshot looks odd (no soft fading borders from the circular vignette). Please do a factory reset in the vorpX config app. Do not change the vignette scaling afterwards for the DK2, only select the lenses you are using.
Please also check whether there is a d3d9.dll in your Dirt 3 folder, and remove it in case there is one. That probably isn’t the issue, but just in case.
Your best bet for proper head tracking in Dirt 3 is using an external tool like OpenTrack, which can emulate TrackIR input. Emulating a gamepad with vorpX works to some degree, but is far from perfect. OpenTrack might not have been updated for DK2 yet, but I’m not sure of that.
hi, yes i tried the game optimizer settings but it didn’t help. But I reinstalled it and now it does start. however now there is a new problem as i can’t get headtracking to work:
the first time i started it the camera looked constantly to the right. after some restarts and trying to fiddle with the ingame options the camera issue disappeared but the headtracking only worked with a very big deadzone, so the view was centered on the steering wheel and only when i turned my head more than a certain degree the picture did move. i tried reducing that by raising the deadzone correction.
Since i did that head tracking doesn’t work at all anymore only head roll works.
I changed back everything to its original values and resetted the dirt 3 profile in vorpx. but it didn’t change anything, headtracking doesn’t work now. here is an
if that helps.
any ideas ?
Did you try to the Game Optimizer Setting for Dirt 3?
It switches the game to DirectX 9. This might be required, and is the preferred mode anyway since it supports Geometry 3D. If applying the setting automatically fails for whatever reason, googling for “dirt 3 dx9” will yield a few tutorials how to do this manually.
It should work this way, tested it a few days ago.
has anyone managed to get dirt 3 to work ? for me it simply won’t start as a double image vorpx seems to completly ignore it. I already tried creating a shortcut, deleted it from vorpx ignore list, and apllied the optimization settings, but it just starts up as a normal 1080p window (!?) anyone having more success?
