In reply to: Dirt 3 problem

There is a way to configure vorpX as gamepad substitute (see below), which can be used to get head tracking in Dirt 3. This is better than nothing, but (very) far from perfect.

The better option is to use an external tool like OpenTrack, which can emulate TrackIR input, instead of vorpX’s head tracking. We can’t do this in vorpX directly due to legal reasons unfortunately. I’m not sure whether OpenTrack is updated to the DK2 yet though.

The next vorpX version *may* have an internal cure for the issue, but it’s not entirely clear yet whether that really will work out.

    Here’s the gamepad method:

    1. Press [DEL] to open the in-game menu
    2. Go to Input page
    3. Set ‘Handle Gamepads Internally’ to Off
    4. Set ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ to Relative or Absolute depending on the game. You should get a grasp of what is better quickly.

The options below this should be more or less self explanatory except maybe Deadzone Correction, which efectively eliminates analog stick deadzones set by the game.

If this is done, your headtracker is now a gamepad axis. The final step is to go to the game’s input options and map look left/right/up/down to the ‘Rift-Gamepad-Axis’, exactly as you would do with any other gamepad axis.

    Hello,

I tried with Dirt 3 and I have head tracking in the menus and all but when I start a game, I have just my head stuck and can’t move it. I already put it in dx9 but I can’t see the geometry 3D option in the menu, is there something we have to do ?

You could try to switch from the games from DX9 to DX11 or vice versa. DX9 is the preferred mode, since it has Geometry 3D, but if one of them does not work, the other may be worth a try.

This has to done with an .ini tweak unfortunately. Here you find a short tutorial for Dirt 3: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1907032

dirt2.exe and dirt3.exe should remain on the exclude list. These are the launcher programs, not the actual games. vorpX should not hook them.

You can do a full factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page) to bring them back if you can’t add them back manually.

*I tried removing Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 from the excluded list*

I can’t get VorpX to launch in VorpX Stereoscopic at all with Dirt 2 or Dirt 3. Every other “supported” game I try to launch with VorpX loads in Stereoscopic except for D2 & D3. I noticed in the excluded games list that VorpX has by default in ver.7.01 that D2 and D3 were both on the excluded list exes to not try to launch? I’ve tried EVERYTHING I can imagine and have done plenty of research to find variables to change in troubleshooting this problem.

You really should adjust the FOV, makes the whole experience a lot more realistic.

For racing games like DIRT3 I would suggest OpenTrack for head tracking, which works quite good. Not sure though whether its already updated for DK2. I would love to implement TrackIR emulation directly into vorpX, but that’s not possible due to legal reasons unfortunately.

I was most interested in driving games, so I started with Dirt 3

No head tracking at all in the cockpit view.

    Skyrim,

Works. But I am playing vanilla Skyrim with no FOV adjustments. It looks like everybody is in your face. But at least the tracking works. Positional tracking works but is VERY subtle.

Forcing DX9 is exactly what you have to do, G3D should work that way.

Just to be sure, please check first whether there is a d3d9.dll present in your Dirt 3 directory. Remove it if you find one.

If you checked that, and it still doesn’t work, try to create a vorpX shortcut for Dirt 3 (see the trouble shooting sticky for details). Despite not working correctly with some Steam/Uplay/Origin games these shortcuts hook more reliable than the auto detection.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi There,

Ive been trying to get dirt3 running in geometry 3d mode, i have made sure to force the game to start in dx9, but then there is no vorpx possible. i dont know why ?

If i dont force the game to start in dx9, then vorpx picks it up in dx11, only enabling Z-Buffer Modes.

Maybe Ralf knows a way to get it set up properly ?

    Hi everybody,

I’m new VORPX user. I’m French, so excuse me if my English is not perfect.

I search a solution to use head tracking with my rift with NFS SHIFT2.

When head tracking is enable on vorpx, only tracking roll works fine. Impossible to use left, right, up and down head tracking.

At first, i have the same problem with DIRT3 and i find Opentrack tool to resolve my problem, but opentrack don’t work with SHIFT 2 ! :(

Someone can help me to find a solution to use head tracking with my RIFT in this Game?

When I start Dishonored with latest Vorpx it recognizes everything and the title screens look great. However, as soon as the main title screen appears I start getting a nasty red strobing effect (acid trip?) that basically seems like it’s a shader issue of sorts. It flashes from the scene with no errors to a bright red effect over most textures and models. (making the scene barely visible) It seems like their is an issue with graphical setting within game and my card? (Nvidia 330m) This also happens for Dirt 3. I am sure there is some subtle nuanced setting that will fix this but it alludes me. Any advice welcome from this awesome community! Thanks guys.

    Hi Ralf/everyone.

I recently got left 4 dead 2 on the steam sale, but Vorpx does not seem to work with it. When I start Left 4 dead 2, it starts normally without vorpx turning the screen stereo. When I exit the game I then notice vorpx is no longer running. I’ve double and tripple checked this. Turn on Vorpx via Vorpx Control shortcut, verify its running in task manager and in the side tray, run left 4 dead 2, exit left 4 dead 2, and vorpx is no longer running.

The other two games I have recently ran with Vorpx is BF4 and Dirt 3, no isses with either of them. Vorpx is still running when I exit either of them.

    Any ideas? My setup is:

    – Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit).
    – 16 Gig Ram
    – intel i7-4770 3.40GHz
    – Asus GTX 770 Nvidia GeForce DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card

What the title states, vorpx simply wont run at all in game. Im running a q9550 with a gtx 660ti and 12gb ram, so more than sufficient hardware. I’ve tried reinstalling vorpx numerous times with restarting my computer. I’ve disabled all programs that may even have the slightest chance to conflict with it (hooks, antiviruses, etc). I’ve followed everything on the basic troubleshooting. I’ve been testing between 4 games: Portal 2, Skyrim, Dirt 3, and ArmA 3. Not one have showed what apparently is a red vorpx overlay, they just start normally. Hitting DEL does nothing whatsoever…

Now does anyone have any clue to even (bare bones) just starting this?

As far as I see it, I’ve wasted $40 on this garbage…

Yup I got it! Thank you so much! :D
I have a quick question about how to use VorpX with some games though…
I am trying to get DiRT 3 to be able to drive with my xbox gamepad but while also being able to look around the interior of the car with the oculus but for some reason I can’t get it to work….I would appreciate any advice or help you can offer me :)

And jjordan12 I think you should be able to go into your email and find the email about your purchase and it should have the link to your download in there. :)

Another (probably slightly better) option is:

You need to download EGO Cam Editor, it will allow you to modify the FOV for the cockpits of all cars for Grid, Dirt 2, Dirt 3.

Google for a download, or get it from here: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/resources/ego-cam-editor.329/
