The next update introduces a new feature that requires additional profiles in itself, which currently are done for about 30 games. Although not its main purpose that will allow Z3D pos tracking for *some* (emphasis on *some*) games.
One of these is Fallout 4 and I can’t help but say that in a game like FO4, that needs every bit of performance, this is a huge win. In practice that means that using Z3D outside where it usually works really well and G3D in interiors is now the best of both worlds without really missing anything anywhere. I dare say maybe even for some of you who really don’t like it until now.
Once all that is done, focus will shift to new 3D profiles.
Wow, even at the “preliminary” stage this profile is pretty amazing. Much better than what I concocted off of the Fallout 4 one.
Is there any way to get the left analog stick on the controller to still act as a joystick instead of a binary move? Maybe I need to play around with the Partial controller override.
Fantastic work Ralf! Thank you!
Thanks Ralf!
I’ll know for myself in a few hours, but how are the new shaders working in 3D?
Fallout 4 is such a disaster in the shader department in G3D that I find it completely unplayable. I’m really worried some of that will carry over to Skyrim SE.
Opinions on lighting aside, what are the referred-to downsides of using VorpX with SE vs the original?
I see. I wonder if there is a mod for fallout 4 that supports the remote like GTA5
VorpX doesn’t add in motion controller functionality in any game. Best bet is wait for Bethesda to release the official Fallout 4 VR game which will have full motion controller support
Hey guys, I just got my Vive to work with Fallout 4. The game works just fine, but I can only play the game with my mouse and keyboard. If I cannot use the Vive remote to point and shoot, I think it defeats the whole purpose of playing in VR. Is there a way to play Fallout 4 with the Vive remote?
Yes, also – I could not get the ENB stuff working with vorpx, which left the original graphics which are a bit dated :( Figured I just wait for the SE to work.
The SE semi-works with a fallout 4 profile – no 3d, I can not tell any difference between any of the 3d settings. Also note: could not get FOV changed in game or using vorpx – but if I used the Skyrim console (~) I could type fov 100 and it would work fine, between game loads and restarts as well. So thats a start.
I find this confusing as I saw a MASSIVE performance boost going to SSE on monitor. Even with the hacked Fallout 4 profile in ZBuffer SSE was far smoother and thats with full Godrays and shadows on Ultra. In OG it was rougher even with settings on High and shadow/draw distances backed off.
I have read some people with 1070s and 1080s are experiencing framerate issues in normal play (non VorpX), but not everyone so I dunno whats going on there. Probably driver optimization. There’s posts around various forums about it. But most people are saying it’s a huge perf boost.
Unless you are using some kind of of mod manager which enforces its own .ini file, the ini is:
[Documents]\My Games\Fallout4\Fallout4Prefs.ini
Make sure that no file in this folder is write protected. Some tweak tool authors feel they are important enough to write protect the .ini files, which would prevent the Game Optimizer from working and you from saving the files.
Resolution is changed with the below values:
iSize H (height)
iSize W (width)
If you have a *REALLY* beefy rig you can also try 1600×1200 or 1920×1440 for better quality (at the cost of performance)
FOV can be adjusted by opening the ingame console and typing:
fov 120 120 (followed by pressing enter)
Or any other value you want to apply, the first is the world FOV, the second the player/weapon FOV.
If you have a mouse wheel you can try to adjust the zoom for 1st/3rd person with it. The default is set so you can.
Thanks! I managed to figure that out, but was worried that I was somehow getting a ‘zoomed in first person view’ as my melee weapon was barely visible on the side of the screen when zoomed all the way in.
Next question, what is the best way to force a 1280×1024 resolution, and force the recommended FOV? I looked at the ‘optimization settings’ and the resolution and FOV settings are correct and checked, however when I launch fallout it gives me the Vorpx warning that the resolution is still set to my montior default (1680×1050)…
I tried using a third party graphic configurator to override the fallout in game settings, but when I had that running the game wouldn’t launch on the headset with Vorpx..
Finally got it to run on Fallout 4 profile. I used Z-Adaptive, it seems to give best performance on my i5-6600 and GTX1080, 32GB RAM. There’s is no 3D whatsoever though, no 3D reconstruction, Like it works well on mass effect 3 for example. The biggest thing that irked me, was that I couldn’t get FOV to the point where I’d like it without being too much Zoomed in without having a bars around it as if it was in cinema mode. I think it would work wonders, if we could have a mode in game that does FOV to zoom the field of view out, and then use FOV setting in VorpX to zoom it back in to get rid of the frame around the screen. Can’t wait to see what Ralph will come up with when the native SSE profile is done.
It’s also funny that a lot of guys seem to look for mods now, to get the graphics back to Pre-SE mode. I guess it’s all about the 64Bit client then and nobody really cares about their SSE’s improved graphics. I downloaded a MOD that removes most of the yellow ‘fog’ and the game looks pretty good. I have to try VR now, when I am LVL6. The last time I tried I was still in a cell, so that was probably not a good comparison for performance in SSE while running in VorpX.
Tried Skyrim SE in VorpX with Fallout 4 profile and Z-3D
I must say I like it more than expected. It is nice to see all the distance detail so clearly with no flicker/ z-fighting.
I still hate the colors, but many reshade mods are going up by the hour including ones for a more stark-bleak original skyrim look.
Some re-shades say there may be performance hit, so hopefully there is no problem. Anyone know if these will work with VorpX? Anyone try one yet?
Also on monitor I can cut down the overly vibrant colors with nvidia digital vibrance slider bar, but it does not affect VORPX.
Is there any way VorpX could have some kind of color control?
I found that Skyrim SE ran identically to old Skyrim in terms of same FPS and same smoothness in VorpX. I could see no noticeable difference. However this is just un-optimized test in Fallout profile so I can’t conclude on how it will be eventually.
Hi,
It started two days ago. After between 2-20 min. the screen in the Vive freezes, the game is still running in the background (Fallout 4), I can save and quit, but even if I quit the game, the frozen frame is still there, glued to the headset, no head tracking, nothing. I then have to restart Steam VR.
I’ve tried reinstalling VorpX, SteamVR (I’m on the stable branch), rolling back recent Windows Update, plugging in the Vive to a different USB port, I’ve also tried two different Nvidia drivers to no avail. I spent over 150 hours in Fallout 4 with VorpX with no issues, and now this. I have no idea what could’ve caused it.
My specs: GTX 1080 and i5-4460, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 – no overclocking.
I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!
