Perhaps gta5 (direct vr mode) is one of them. But if you want to play it smoothly at 4k resolution, you’ll need at least a 3080.
By the way, it still doesn’t work.
When I disable the C:\Program Files (x86)\VorpX\Plugins\vpxGTAV.dll then it works.
Should I try cleaning my registry of GTA5 stuff? I can’t think of anything else.
I deinstalled Antivir, Nvidia Experience thing,
I only have Windows security, MSI true color, Intel rapid storage, steam, VR, printer in the tray
I reinstalled gta5 to different location
I deleted GTA5 out of my documents/rockstar games and CC:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games
What else should I do? Should I really mess around with the Registry?
When vorpX doesn’t run it works also (or when vpxGTAV.dll renamed)

It would be cool if someone supported me and we could get vorpX to do what I paid for ;)
Renaming the files worked well to get the immersive functionality back to normal in RDR2, but GTA V (which used to work well with the previous version in immersed mode) is still showing some problems:
. Hooking goes well, but only Geometry works mostly well. However, it’s a bit heavy and things like clothes show an uncomfortable kind of shine on them
. I would rather use Z-Adaptive but there is a weird displaced 3d rectangle on the left-bottom side that I would like to get rid of
. Resolution in settings is stuck on 1920×1080, if I try to change the resolution in-game while hooked in with Vorpx the games hangs every time.
Is it actually possible for me to just use the previous Vorpx version? I was perfectly happy with the functionality in that version for all of my games. I understand the new version brings a lot of features that most people want, but for me it’s basically broken most of my gaming, so it’s a big problem, especially since I no longer play in pancake mode, I prefer to play everything with Vorpx.
Since the last version vorpX comes with a mod for RDR 2 (as well as GTA 5) with the purpose of providing the best possible FullVR experience.
If you just want to play in immersive screen mode, you can disable the mods by renaming the according files in C:\Program Files\Animation Labs\vorpX\plugins
However, you might want to give FullVR with the new mod a try instead. It works a lot better than FullVR did before without the mod. Make sure to reset the profile to default so that everything is set correctly for utilizing the mod fully.
The RDR2/GTAV mods provide:
- Decoupled walk/look
- VR-optimized cameras that get rid of nauseating stuff like head bobbing and forced 3rd person animations (e.g. when mounting a horse)
- GTAV only: VR optimized vehicle first person position and an additional hood cam
- VR-controller optimized FullVR control scheme that lets you move with just the left controller.
- Alternate frame Geometry 3D
- Full positional tracking
- Automated FOV handling
I believe Ralf mentioned this was uniquely done by modding the game engine directly, not API, and was only possible because the RDR2/GTA5 engine facilitates such a camera mod.
It would be neat of course if others can be modified for AFR, but I still much prefer vorpX G3D and the control options it has. One blessed day we’ll have dx12 G3D :)
No. Smooth 4k is impossible even with 3080. I play older games at one step below 4k and everything looks great. New games like GTA5 or RDR2 you have to go step or two lower, especially if you wan’t to crank up the MSAA.
Is 4:3 resolution ideal or 1:1? I’ll give it a shot and let ya’ll know how it runs RTX3080 + Valve Index. Thanks!
Also are you still planning on having a full body for the player in GTAV and RDR2? I came from the REAL GTAV mod and I found your VorpX solution runs a lot better but I prefer having the player body as well as the way cutscenes were implemented in REAL (you remain in the worldspace while viewing the characters in the cutscene).
Using the left CTRL+ALT+SHIFT keys should do the trick.
The image on your monitor is perfectly fine though. GTAV and RDR2 now use a new 3D-method where the two eyes are rendered at alternating frames, which looks a bit weird on the monitor, but gets processed to look right in the headset. You can switch to a different 3D method in the vorpX menu to change that, but unless you have an actual issue with the alternate frame 3D (some find it uncomfortable), I’d suggest to leave it that way.
Cpntroller input should work perfectly fine normally. May be some input focus issue. Try to click into the game window once to ensure it’s running in the foreground. If you have mods installed, please also try without, one of them might interfere.
Dear Gamers,
yesterday i found this MOD and i found it worth to post something about it here.
My Setup:
FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage Steam Version
Valve Index – SteamVR
VorpX
Zolika1351’s FlatOut UC Trainer (MOD) – https://www.nexusmods.com/flatoutultimatecarnage/mods/2
The MODs-Name is “Zolika1351’s FlatOut UC Trainer” which is basically a GTA 5 like trainer menu. i thought “Camera rotation with the mouse” would be a good feature for Headtracking in VorpX but as i used this mod i saw that the developer himself added VR Support for this task:
Version 11.0
Added .ini options for VR
Fixed Custom Camera not disabling properly in the VR enabled version
Made VR Offset consistent across all cars by driver position
Version 10.0
Added VR support with head tracking (for displaying the image, use either VorpX, or Reshade with the SuperDepth3D_VR shader and Virtual Desktop)
(the needed DLLs for VR are in a seperated folder)
with F7 you could open the mod and the last menupoint is VR. You could position the camera where you want (i prefere cockpit)
Known Problems i found:
1. Menu crashes the Game
The Game is extremly instable if you use the menu. If you use it in the Game menu its better than in a race. Just Tweak your camera the way you wanted and put the Values in the mod ini. Than you can activate VR in the Game Menu and if you dont bring up the Modmenu ever again the game seems not to crash
2. No geometric 3D witch VorpX
I thought that VorpX could do real 3D but maybe the Camera-Mod kills that feature. I dont know but ive turned it of because the performance is horrible with it.
3. Boost effect let you think you jump in hyperspace
So if you use boost the camera effect is really not as funny as it sounds in vr. but if you change the ingame camera ( c ) there is a “position” without a driver. in this camera the boost effect isnt shown
4. No HUD
Didnt find a workaround for it yet
5. Bad Graphics
Well the game is from 2008. If you zoom in the textures dont look good at all. Maybe i find a way with Supersampling SteamVR or scale the game to 4k – or maybe there is a texture mod?
Note: i dont made this mod, i only found it. I cant help you with errors. Thanks to Zolika1351, it was my dream to play this game in VR!
@VorpX Developers:
Maybe you could contact the developer and find out what he uses to set the camera. The Freelook might be added in the vorpX injection and than we would need that mod (and maybe the 3d comes back)
Thank you Ralf for fixing the San Andreas and Gta3, vice city, Bully (D3D8to9) profiles. When i was testing after the update i thought i am dreaming its not just the Roomscale is working again you fix the flushing flickering moments that was appearing when you sit still in cars or in Cutscenes without much movement. This problem was in all Games that i list it was not just in San andreas. Why i also really appreciate this fixes is, be course to the fact that VR is growing and so many people want something from Ralf. So thank you so much Ralf you did a very good Job making VorpX greater and keep supporting and helping and answering so many people. I don’t think this taken for granted. cheers
On my site,I have to restart the game. I’ve not found any settings in vorpx that helps. I’ve tryed, Cinema Mode, Immersive Screen with geo3d, Z buffer, no 3d. nothing helps. Did I mention that I also have the Epic Store Version.
But I’m surprised what a big step you have done with that release. GTA5 is so smooth with phenomenal grafic settings with constant 90 fps with a rtx2080ti. And the auto switching camera mode is great (when it works)
How exactly the glitch manifests itself may indeed depend on the resolution, with the suggested 4:3 res and the HUD scale at default the minimap should just be a bit wider than it is supposed to be.
Normally you should be able to set the resolution in the vorpX menu (‘DirectVR’). If that doesn’t work, please make sure that your normal Windows user account has write access to the commandline.txt file inside your GTA V install folder. Alternatively launching both the game and vorpX as admin would also ensure that vorpX can write to the file.
On a sidenote: currently the game looks best with vorpX with a higher actual resolution instead of using the game’s resolution scaling option for upping the internal res.
I’ll definitely take a another stab at getting rid of the HUD glitch. The usual way that vorpX uses to make HUDs 3D causes this annoying glitch unfortunately in GTA V.
Not sure about your other issue. Incidentally Reverb G2/OpenXR is what I currently use too most of the time. Never encountered what you experienced. If you want, please create a troubleshoot data archive in the config app and send it to support at vorpx com. Maybe the logfile contains something useful.
The main advantage in the special case of GTAV/RDR2 is that it’s done by directly manipulating the ingame cameras with modding functions, much, much simpler than how vorpX normally creates G3D, which essentially involves re-writing half the D3D API.
There is a reason why noone does 3D this way normally though. Even with the frame interpolation trickery that can make rotation feel right in VR you still always have two images rendered at two different points in time. Any motion except first person rotation, where the oddities can be tricked away, will never look right. Fast forward/backward motion can even feel extremely uncomfortable since the left and right images don’t really match at all.
That being said, it was fairly low hanging fruit and apparently some consider it OK, so why not? I’ll check in the future what games might also be candidates for the method.
Greetings. I’m curious: Is there anything special about your alternate eye 3d? Once I had the performance tuned like in the instructions, turning with the controller became totally fluid without any ghosting and double vision. That’s the best alternate eye 3d I have seen by a longshot.
I’m sure I find something to nitpick about later, for now I’m in GTA heaven. Driving around Los Santos feels like true L.A. with 30° outside. :)
