I’ve been playing Halo Custom Edition in my Vive using VorpX for a few weeks now, and it’s fantastic — except for one thing. In Halo’s ingame video setting, I can’t set the refresh rate to the highest setting (75hz) without having to lower the resolution well below 1920×1080. Even though I’ve installed the Custom Edition mod. Is this just a limitation of the game?

But even with 75hz, the frame rate doesn’t feel like 75fps. If my movement gets too crazy, I get woosey. And I never get nauseous in VR. Anyone know how to maximize the frame rate?

    Horseback looks like this

    View post on imgur.com

Using the Absolute Camera mod to increase FOV and such. Everything works great…until I get on a horse. I reinstalled Witcher and reinstalled the mod, launched in normal monitor mode without any issues on horse back. Now, after just trying Vorpx and getting this issue, the problem is there even in normal mode without steamVR/vorpx running. It’s like something with running Vorpx introduces this issue that persists even when not in VR. Any tips?

Since some people seem to have problems to run “The Witcher 3” properly, I want to give my optimal settings for a GTX 1080 (@ 2 GHz), i7-6700K (@ 4,4 GHz) system.

    Public profile
You can find the public profile under the nickname “Amylion”. It’s a virtual 3D cinema for 4:3 aspect ratio (e.g. 1920 x 1440) with black borders (no ambience). The stereoscopic effect is enhanced both in strength and distance weighting. That leads to a strong 3D effect with minimal distortion at the contours; the drawback is a diminished difference in depth effect on close objects. The black borders are important, because the fresnel lenses of current VR devices sadly amplify bright spots in the periphery overproportionally.

    Resolution
    The recommended resolution is 1920 x 1440.
Contrary to some rumours it doesn’t actually translate to supersampling. If you run native SteamVR apps at a Supersampling factor of 1 (that means without real supersampling at the center of the display), the app will render in 1512 x 1680 for each eye!
1920 x 1440 is comparable, because the virtual cinema doesn’t cover the whole field of view. But if you go lower than that, the pixels in the center of the image will get stretched and look bad!

    In-game settings

    Post-processing
    Motion Blur: Off
    Blur: On
    Anti-aliasing: On
    Bloom: On
    Sharpening: Low
    Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+
    Depth of Field: On
    Chromatic Aberration: Off
    Vignetting: On

    Graphics
    VSync: Off
    Maximum FPS: Unlimited
    Resolution: 1920 x 1440
    Display Mode: Fullscreen
    Preserve System Gamma: Off
    NVIDIA Hairworks: On
    NVIDIA Hairworks AA: 0
    NVIDIA Hairworks Preset: Low
    Number of Background Characters: High
    Shadow Quality: High
    Terrain Quality: Ultra
    Water Quality: Ultra
    Grass Density: Medium
    Texture Quality: Ultra
    Foliage Visibility Range: Medium
    Detail Level: Ultra
    Hardware Cursor: On

    Gamma setting
The biggest issue are the gamma settings. It seems to be bugged. Even the highest in-game gamma settings are way too dark. Most details get lost in almost every scene, especially in dark in-door rooms with some light sources like candles.

You have to manually edit the “user.settings” file in the “The Witcher 3” folder in your Windows documents folder.

Set the “GammaValue=1.0” to “GammaValue=2.0”. Start the game normally for a quick test. It should look very bright and washed out (sometimes it fails to load the configuration properly), but in the headset it will look normal (= great).

    Input
In the same folder you can edit “input.settings” file to change the inputs that for some mysterious reason are locked in the in-game UI. For example I put the inventory on my Mouse5 button.

These settings will work flawlessly on a system with a GTX 1080. You probably can even go higher in some areas (shadows or grass / foliage).

    Have fun!

    Hi friends of VR! ;)

I bought yesterday the VorpX Driver and played some Alan Wake with it without trouble. Even started Dialbo III to look at the game in VR. Still no problem. Today I downloaded the 7DtD Cloud Profile and tried to start the game. VorpX won’t inject to the game. Removed the EXE and attached it, no success. Created a Desktop Shortcut with VorpX, but still no injection. I set up all things described in the 7DtD Thread (Resolution and so on).

Any suggestion to get this started? :(

Sorry to necro, but this is driving me nuts.

GTA refuses to run above 45fps even with nvidia settings reset or set to performance, vsync off/adaptive/anything. GPU and CPU utilization never exceed 30 percent and 12 percent respectively, and no single core is close to maxed. Settings do not impact this phenomenon; I will get drops down to tens and twenties regardless of resolution or settings.

I’m running an i7-7700k stock with no thermal issues, and a gtx 1080 ti which is also not throttling or overclocked. My memory is ddr4-3600 running at full according to cpu-z.

I have reset GTA’s profile via vorpx several times to no avail, and this is a new install of Windows.

    Topic: FEAR 2

    Hi,

I’ve got a massive problem; I don’t know how many games run slowly, but these I tried:
    Crysis 2: runs smoothly
FEAR 1: runs smoothly (for the most part)
Mirrors Edge: runs smoothly (for the most part)

    Today I tried F.e.a.r. 2 and I only get 20-25 FPS!? o_O

I got an i7 4770K and a MSI 1080Ti GamingX(!) So in older games like Fear1, 2 or Mirror Edge, I should get way over 60FPS!
The CPU isn’t really used in most games, but even the GPU sits around at 30% in Fear2!!

I’ve already tried every tip in your “Basic Trouble Shooting” topic, but that didn’t help :-\
I also loaded the nVidia profile defaults, didn’t work either…

    Please help!

    thx,
    dlder

I agree in some specific parts of the previous messages.
I personally, I like Vorpx enough, because it has given me opportunity to play some of my favorite games, and I will always be totally 100% grateful in that aspect and others.

But on the other hand, I can not avoid having a bitter feeling, having totally tied hands, exclusive 3d profiling decisions, and in-depth testing of the creator.
(Except for small test copying basic profiles by users)

For example, within two days, launching Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind expansion, is a simple example, but I will never be able to know if we will have a geometry profile and z-normal + gui scale now, soon or never.

Probably the creator or developer, think, is not a timely decision right now, or maybe if it’s a good idea, but I’ll never be able to do anything about it to get it, unless you’re lucky in the order.
I can not even know if it is being considered at some point or if it is being tested, and this really saddens me a lot.
    This uncertainty.

I imagine the same thing happens to other people.
And I understand that some things are not as fast, easy, or always technically possible e.t.c.
However, I would also like to address this issue a bit, I think Vorpx should update more frequently for the inclusion of some oficial new game profiles, and minor fixes.Especially at this time.

    some dx11 works,are quite requested.

This is not a criticism, I just share, some of the sensations on the other side, as a client, as a player, and in general someone who likes to use this program for the only purpose of obtaining an improvement in this aspect.

id be surprised if even some games would use 4 cores still. so having said that, intel coming out with new 8 core processors 16 threads most likely to compete with the prices of amd. I would doubt we’ll see any games that needs this much for a long long time. and by then ddr5 will have come out and youll need to upgrade again for that. more games will most likely come out using more cores, 4 core 8 threads for most applications will still be overkill, if you’re having this thought on saving 100.00 id save up to get more ram at least 32 gb ram wich is not cheap right now.. and a ssd , especially that we’re talking about vr in the first place, wich we are already seeing minimum requirements of unlocked cpus and 16gb ram. I just upgraded from a 4 cores to a 4 core 8 threads and vorpx is about the same.

I found a work-around for this background / skybox issue.

You can increase the viewing distance of the high poly detail renderer in the INI file.

In the game folder (“Gothic 3”) there is a folder for the INI files (“Ini”). Make a backup of the “ge3.INI” file. Open it and look for these lines and change them to look like this:

    DistanceHigh.fFarClippingPlane_High=50000.0
    DistanceHigh.fFarClippingPlane_Medium=10000.0
    DistanceHigh.fFarClippingPlane_Low=6000.0

These settings manage the option slider values. 50000 is the maximum value. So if you now choose the high option for the high poly quality slider in the in game settings menu, the view distance of the stereoscopic properly rendered world will increase drastically. You can even turn off the low detail renderer completely.

Outdoors the performance framerate hit is about 20%. My 1080, i6700K struggle to keep 45 fps in some areas. But to me it’s totally worth it. It’s not only more beautiful, but I don’t get lost that much anymore and have a much better feeling of being in the world.

“Gothic 3” really is a gem. To me it looks better than “Skyrim”. It has brilliant lighting (very artistic use of light and shadow) and an awesome streaming engine, that makes loading screens obsolete.

The only problem is the single thread code (they had to disable the multi-threading in a patch because it wasn’t thread-safe). That means its performance is heavily CPU bound and it will stutter a lot; especially when you enter a new zone and the engine has to stream new data.

So beware! If you are prone to motion sickness, there will be many occasions of very heavy stuttering that will make you sick.

I personally have no problem with it and enjoy the fantastically designed open world of “Gothic 3” in full 3D.

Skyrim is mainly cpu bound, the special edition is slightly more gpu dependent.
If you get low gpu usage its probably because the cpu isn’t powerful enough (even if the cpu usage is low).
Skyrim is poorly optimized, it can’t use multi-core cpu’s efficiently.

Higher resolutions cause more gpu usage, higher shadow resolutions more cpu usage and the rest has no effect at all.

Fluidsync locks the fps to 45, for better asynctimewarp (frame reprojection). It is activated by default, because most people don’t get high fps in skyrim.

Thanks for the response :) I went back and removed all profiles in radeon settings. In the global settings I tried with vsync disabled / app controlled. I still get vsync warning when even launching into vorpx desktop viewer. I screwed around with monitor settings (eg dropped resolution from 2560×1440@144 to 1920×1080@60) – didn’t help. I also tried to create a specific profile for vorpx with vsync settings – nothing. I also went back to amd drivers from a year ago to see if that was the issue. No joy.

    I give up.

    Thanks again. :)

    I have a 1080 Ti + Ryzen 1800X, I turned off FluidSync, yet I can’t run smoothly at 1600×1200 with mid settings. 🙁
I have a few mods installed though, I should try without.

You probaly getting bad performance because AMD chips, even Ryzen have bad draw calls performance. You can read more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5xeflc/ryzen_dx11dx12_draw_call_performance/. Unfortunately, AMD cpu is a bad choice for VR.

How are your Nvidia settings? You don’t have AA cranked, do you?

No, all default settings, no AA. 1x internal resolution in VorpX and 1.4 application supersampling from SteamVR but I don’t think it applies to VorpX.
I’ve disable graphical mods, no help.

What’s your performance in Markarth? It’s my benchmark. I can get 90 fps in dungeons with mid settings but markarth is reprojection heavy, even on low.

Really? Damn, that’s odd, I can get decent framerates even on ultra, 90 in many places and it rarely drops below 50. I guess a CPU bottleneck is a possibility, but the 1800X is only slightly less powerful than the Intel flagship at the worst (at least in terms of gaming benchmarks), so it’d be surprising if that were the case. Could it be that Vorpx is poorly optimized for AMD architecture or something? How are your Nvidia settings? You don’t have AA cranked, do you?

Yes I am, but I always did, to monitor the framerate and other sensors and in my case it was not MSI afterburner’s fault. The issue occured even with MSI afterburner, Geforce Experience and Steam overlays disabled or closed. Now they are all enabled and working just fine, like they always did, with VorpX. Only after uninstalling Avast Antivirus did I get rid of the problem.
