Battle Grounds III (G3D)

This standalone revision of the old Half-life 2 mod has just released this week for free on steam. The long ago fight “For honor and glory!” vs “Freedom!” resumes this Independence day week, and is playable with vorpX G3D. See Steam page to watch the trailer and download link.
I had to force some extra FOV Enhancement, and the weapon model 3D strength doesn’t quite match the 3D world, but the rest is looking fine. Kind of fun to run around in for a couple hours, among the chaos and hilarity. I Put some settings on the cloud for anyone to use.
– use a 16:9 resolution (2560×1440)
*check BG3 Options in game to minimize crosshair and HUD elements
*for some reason Q is default to aim, so rebind in Options
*default is cinema fullscreen for Pimax8k, Rift may look better in fullvrvorpX now officially supports Pimax 5K/8K headsets (vorpX 19.1.1 and above). For the best experience please check these recommendations.
Brainwarp Settings
- Compatible with parallel projections: has to be ON.
- Compatible With Vive Only Game: has to be OFF.
- Turn on smart smoothing: should be OFF to avoid judder
- Refresh Rate: 72Hz: not necessary, but reduces CPU/GPU usage.
- Field of View: Small: better performance, still provides very decent ~130° horizontal FOV, also helps with games that have a hardcoded FOV limit
Render Quality Settings
- PiTool: Rendering Quality: 1.0 (default)
- SteamVR: Video: Manual Override: 50%
These settings produce a large enough headset render target to play games at common vorpX resolutions.
The above was tested with a 5K+, for Pimax 8K SteamVR quality at 50% might already be overkill. Try 30-40% instead.
Game Resolutions
In contrast to other headsets 4:3 resolutions usually aren’t best for Pimax 5K/8K. Unless 4:3 is required for a game to work correctly (mostly Half-Life2, Portal 2 and other Source engine games), 16:10 seems to be a perfect fit for the FOV setting recommended above.
Try 1680×1050, 1920×1200 or 2304×1440. Depending on the game and your GPU these should usually provide a decent quality/performance ratio. You can also use similar 16:9 resolutions.
Conclusion
With these settings older games can be run on your Pimax even on a midrange GPU like a GTX 1070/2060 in Geometry 3D at 1200p resolutions. For more demanding games and/or higher game resolutions a faster GPU is highly recommended.
Potential performance issues like judder can be addressed by reducing a game’s resolution and/or graphics details or by switching to Z3D in vorpX, which is a lot faster than G3D.

All games work perfectly Witcher3, Mass Effect’s and other.
But I won’t play in HL2,ep1,ep2, black mesa source and I read on the forum what other people can play in it but not me. What is my problem?
Vorpx is injected and on the monitor display – I see logo Vorpx but in Oculus headset I see only logo HL2 and text “loading”. Cursor follow by my headset.
I use a cloud setting. Trying with steam VR and without – with steam and no steam – hl2 update, hl2 classic, ep1, ep2, black mesa – result only one – “loading” text and game logo in the white room in Oculus headset.
Windowed, fullscreen, 4:3, 16:9 and other resolution… no matter.
Windows 7 x64. Oculus Rift CV1. Last update for Oculus and Vorpx.

I have a Pimax 5K Plus I am trying to get Half-Life 2 to work with Vorpx I have tried the default HalfLife2 profile settings and an online profile settings from the Vorpx cloud but the image renders wrong on the VR HMD it looks like a mirror image I see double of everything in the game although the head tracking works perfectly. Is there any way of getting this game to render properly on the 5K Plus?
I’ve just finished Portal 2 using vorpX and that’s one of the best VR experience I ever had !!!
I have also finished the Half-Life 2 trilogy, and though it was great (especially the episode 2 which was really good in VR), Portal 2 is just spectacular.
I really can’t understand why Portal 2 hasn’t been released officially in VR, as the game is SO good playing that way (oh maybe because VR games are primarily made for people who can’t stand VR and they would puke jumping everywhere in Portal ?)

Topic: Half-Life 2 Troubles
The first time I started half-life 2 update, I had a hell of a time and the screen in my vive would stay black with a green outline around the upper left eye. I would still be able to hear the menu sounds and change vorpx settings, but there was no image present. I tried downloading a new cloud profile, and the game worked x2 until I messed around with some resolution settings. I am now back to square one. Black screen regardless of the profile, reset profile, factory reset vorpx, reinstalled hl2, nothing. Same problem with the black screen. I do not know what else to try. I did notice, after setting the game back to wide screen 2k without vorpx, when I do open the game it tries to set a 4:3 ratio. Any suggestions on how I can tweak this issue?
