so basically it’s not possible to merge the injectors right out of the box (i’ve dreamed for a bunch of minutes!!)?
i’m a very long time 3d vision user too and would be great to use their hard work in order to fix and extend the geometry 3d support here on vorpx.
z-buffer is exactly like mikearms has said “cardoard cutouts at different depths” (with free halo artifacts here and there), not to mention the low 3d effect too.
This trend started up with crysis 2 and it’s become a pain as lot of games now has that “compatiblity mode” so lazy developers can claim 3d with no effort. honestly z-buffer has nothing to share with a proper dual rendering.
i’ve never played a z-buffer game, i had so bad times with crysis 2 and i promised myself not to play anything else with fake 3d.If i have to play fake i prefer 2d.
I’m playing crysis 2 right now that i have a gtx1080 and finally i can enjoy a true 3d without losing too many frames and/or lowering too many details.
i did the same many times, waited until my hardware was powerful enough to get the most out from the 3d experience.
performances are not a problem, it’s just a matter of time, and you will be able to play it sooner or later.
Hi,
I see that the separation and Convergence values in z-buffer mode are too low. You can barely tell that there is any 3D at all. Is there a way to amplify the effect?
for example, separation goes to a value of 2.0 in Z-buffer but 4.0 in Geometry. It would be great it these went higher. I really do not care if it causes “haloing” or other artefacts as it does with the 3D Vision driver (Long time 3D Vision user here).
Thank you.
I’ve been messing with both in-game and VorpX expert settings, but can’t get the right combo.
I found a non-Rift post on how to mod Halo’s in-game res to 1920×1080. Would this help?
Or would changing the Halo.exe to the name of a game in the included optimized list be the better way to go? If so, which game would be best?
If anyone’s already done this and would like to share their settings, I’d be most appreciative.
Thanks!
You can rename the Halo .exe to a .exe of a game that is supported.
This is the only way for now and it does not work for all games.
(It would of course work better if the game engine of the game you want to play in vr is already supported, like the unreal engine 3 (Bioschock), or the source engine (Half life 1+2)…)
Why is that the only way? Is there a way I can add code? If not do they ever plan to make the software open source so more games will be supported more quickly?

I want to make mmos supported with the software, along with a VR tredmil for the ultimate cardio experience.
xpadder would let me use a xbox controler and a add on keyboard module, to allow me to control the game.

I have expert mode active, even though I can’t find positional tracking option anywhere as I expected. Still I disabled it to see if it worked without it, but I still got the halo effect.
This is what I’m getting:

Strangely enough when rename the exe to haloce i get geometry 3D!
very odd since haloce does not do geometry 3D itself.
However, similar to tomb raider underworld the UI is split into two eyes and has a huge offset, but unlike tomb raider underworld this causes the game to be unplayable, as the crosshair has double vision and there are a lot of menus in this game.
looks like people had similar issues when running this game with 3D vision.

maybe there is some setting in vorpx that we can change that will fix this issue.
Yes, BO 1 was the only other COD besides MW3 that worked with geometry 3d for me at this stage. Ghosts (worked when I ran vorpx NOT as administrator), BO 2 and have z-buffer and COD 2, MW, WAW and MW2 wouldn’t hook but I didn’t spend a whole lot of time trying if it didn’t hook right away. Would love to Ghosts SP especially in geometry 3d as that has almost perfect 3d rendering with nvidia 3d vision anyway. The earlier titles have more issues with problematic shaders in stereo 3d like BO 1 has halos if smoke is in the background but it’s not bad.
BO 1 for some reason only has an fov slider for MP but you can bind a key in the config file for SP by adding a line like: bind 1 “cg_fov 90” to toggle a higher fov but you have to hit the key you assigned each time a level loads.
MW3 is more cinematic and realistic looking but BO1 also has a combat training mode in MP where you can set up bot matches for any of the multiplayer maps (can also turn off the hud for more immersion) as well as zombie mode so it has good replay value in that respect.
Works and looks amazing in Geometry mode…however when in an outdoor scene with objects very far away the framerate dropped a lot to like what looks like 15 fps or below..but focus on a scene where there are only close up objects and the framerate was back to solid.
In COD MW3 I noticed no such slowdown with large outdoor and underwater scenes. Could be that the newer Black Ops game was more demanding on GPU and CPU? I also noticed no transparent outline halo images around objects with Black Ops 1, whereas with COD MW3 I get the those slight visual anomalies.
So basically I’d still prefer play COD MW3, hoping for a fix to remove those ghosting images.
Also at the present time COD: Ghosts simply doesn’t get recognized by vorpx dk2, for me at least.
Thank you for everything Ralf. I am loving playing with my DK2 with vorpx. I went through the entirety of Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on my DK1 and it was my best vr experience and I am reinstalling it for uses on the DK2 now.
I spent some time playing bioshock infinite myself…I ended up disabling the dynamic shadows because apparently the game produced different shadows on the left than the right eye making some people and objects look a little wierd. There are still static shadows in the game so it wasn’t too bad.
I thought BIOSHINF was the shit until I tried Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, there are underwater sequences where you take over a sub and then turbulence aboard an airplane…you really need to give it a go. I actually liked it better than BIOSHINF. However it does have some minor display issues like for some reason while looking around you might see a ghost halo effect on the left or right of some objects…the same happens in Mirror’s Edge but the 3D effects are so good they are easily ignorable. Ralf, if you are reading this…will you be customizing COD MW3 and Mirrors Edge at some point so that they will be as good as Bioshock Infinite without those ghost halo outlines appearing around some objects, or is that a problem with the particular game engine?
Halo 2 would be amazing in the Rift… I wish they would release Halo Reach for the PC, but any Halo would be great, especially in 3D!
That’s great Ralf and Halo PC runs DX9 (I hope that’s what my pc tells me) as well as Halo 2 PC just to help you out a bit. :)
But as you said no promises, I respect that. You have the overall project to focus on and perfect.
You have my hopes up a lot!
Thank you
Ralf???
Thank God that you are still with us! :)
Hi Kris,
Halo 1 is DirectX8, so unfortunately it won’t work for the first release version (might change in the future), but I will look into Halo 2, which uses DX9, I believe. No promises though. ;)
Halo CE PC and Halo 2 PC support would be nice!
Love how someone has gone out of the way to make so many games available for the Rift!
